It sucks only knowing english here. EVERYONE speaks spanish.

Then at research they are either italian or asian.

It's crazy to feel this isolated b/c of english.

run to the hospital and befriend all the filipino nurses... they'll cook you some good food.

hey Ana, how long did it take for the committee at your school to write your composite letter?

I have my interview tomorrow morning

I've been trying to relearn Spanish this summer.

And still, the Portuguese is the first thing that pops to mind. Trying to remember that "I" = "Yo" and not "Eu" is killing me.

i didn't use the committee at school... because well i thought it was really silly to have to get letters from people who had no idea who i was and was just going off on what's on paper. i'd rather get letters from teachers who really do know me, and can you know... really say they understand my abilities.

if i go to chicago... and i'll bring some dilly beans!

then i'll have to go to andersonville... i need those cookies from that swedish bakery there

ok so i was told i can submit my amcas even without the august mcat... i just have to put down that i'm taking the august mcat and they'll hold off on my app... so is this true?

our school is all ghetto and doesn't have a pre-med committee. So I just got letters from professors and others and had them sent to interfolio

INTERFOLIO ROCKS!! WOOO!!

this is what I've heard--2 schools i applied to said that they will not review apps from ppl taking the august mcat until after scores are released.

It seems like they would wait for score release to do a final review--you could always just contact the schools you apply to and request that they not review your app until then.

Although one of my friends got invited for interviews even before the scores were released from August (she had retaken the mcat and they invited her for interviews based on her previous score) And i know for a fact that she indicated on her amcas that she was retaking in august.

Good luck ironman! Have fun and knock 'em dead!

thanks Molly! Most of the people who I talked to who went through it last year said it was pretty laid back. They mostly just ask you for things about yourself to help write the letter, nothing too serious like some school interviews.... but I am all of the sudden a little nervous 😳

Hopefully it's just nice and relaxed

I'm sure you'll be golden. 🙂

I TOTALLLY agree. I still can't figure out what the point is, ESPECIALLY since they send all of the other letters with it 😕

The only reason I am doing it is because many of the secondaries say that if your school has a committee, you have to use it.

I like the committee thing. It means you don't have to follow all the schools' individual rules for LORs (like # of research supervisors, professors, etc.) because you can just substitute the committee packet. Less record keeping and telling your professors to send letters to a bajillion schools.

i know a lot of people here who didn't use the committee... i'm just concerned it might come up in an interview.

I was ecstatic that my school didn't have a committee. One less hoop to jump through, woo-hoo!

yea, seriously, I wish my school didn't

worse yet, Penn State has a massive amount of pre-meds. If you don't have all of your letters in by the end of april, you are looking at a line so long, you can get booked for an interview in OCTOBER!!!!

Case in point: My girlfriend had all of her letters written by July 14th last year. AMCAS was done. She was finally able to set up an apointment with the committee, and they booked her for around October 20th!

can't the teachers just send to interfolio?

how does that work exactly? do they get the letters and copy them for you?

ironman--that's whack

lili--i don't know if it will be a problem. but if schools don't get exactly the letters they want from you, then they will throw your app into the hold pile and won't tell you. Some schools are defintely more flexible with the letters than others.

Lili--it's like $15 to set up an account for one year. Then--your profs can submit letters through mail, by fax, or electronically. Then interfolio mails them for you (it's $5 a pop) they are very fast and i love it.
