Time to make some breakfast. Williams did a good job today in the Germany Grand Prix Practice. Top of the time charts with Alex Wurz. 🙂

morning. Today is the day. I have to work all day on this paper. Argh. So frustrating b/c there is so much information. 🙁

I feel your pain...I was up till 1:30 working on mine, and I expect to do the same again tonight 🙁

Good luck with yours :luck:

TROPICAL STORM FORMATION IS NOT EXPECTED THROUGH SATURDAY.

Just wanted to let y'all know that. I subscribed to the NHC daily tropical outlook and hurricane update services so I could better serve my hurricane population. 😀

National Geographic had a GREAT article on hurricanes if any of you wanted to check it out. Talking about experimental radars and how they are improving the forecast to try to be more accurate.

Seems to be working because I didn't know crap about this! LOL! Now I wonder what would happen if a hurricane rolls through on MCAT test day! YAY! Give everyone a 45. 😀

Edit: I don't think I've seen the weather channel since April, good times.

How you been girl? You been quiet as of lates. I was going to actually send you a message to see what you been up to!

Been volunteering and trying to get the house unpacked in time for a party on the 12th. Not to mention...my connection is super slow for some reason and posting or reading SDN is an exercise in futility much of the time. I try to catch up with the randomites on AIM. I have dropped you a few lines, but I think it is a "signed in, but no one is home" situation.

Things are going very well. I need to update my blog, I volunteered yesterday and go back today at 1 pm. Until classes start, I will be doing Monday and Friday, all day. I was supposed to shadow a Plastic Surg on Monday and Tuesday of next week, but I can't seem to nail down her schedule so it may have to wait. That's ok.

I still can't post comments on your blog. 😡 😡

Also, I think someone hijacked my MySpace page...it says that it has been deleted. Can anyone see it? I can't log on.

I've gotten that on a few friends today. myspace is very very fincky and easy to hack. Hopefully myspace will get it fixed for you. They have way too many issues. I'm considering not using it anymore.

AND MY ARTIST DELETED MY SONG!!??!?! *cries* I can't believe it. That was my favorite song and described my life. What's weird is that the song was on Grey's anatomy and I didn'te even realize it!

As yes it says deleted. But so did one of my other friends I try to pst.

Ok just got an IM from a friend. he knows about 10 other people which this happened too. 😉

Hoepfully it will get resolved by this afternoon. 🙂

Ok kids I am out for the weekend. I really need to work on this paper which is getting bigger and bigger and with hubby coming home and packing, I probably won't be on again until I get back out to Jersey wed night or thurs. I will try to pop in and say hi, but if I'm not around, you know why. 🙂

😍 and talk with you soon.

Anybody play hockey? The path department is starting up a hockey team and it sounds like fun.

But, I can barely ice skate, so perhaps I should find another activity. 😳

Haven't played ice hockey, but street, yes. I've been on the ice once when I was 8 and didn't enjoy it. Haven't tried it yet, but roller blading is much easier. Guess that's why I live in FL!

Can't help you with hockey, but since I'm a figure skater, I can definitely help with skating in general!! 😀

It sounds like a fun activity though. You should try it!

It would be fun to play! I played field hockey but love ice hockey. Bad knees, else I'd be playing ice hockey 🙂

the shelf was hard, but everyone thought that and walking out of the exam i feel like i did as good or better than my classmates so thats all that counts since its weighted to how we do as a group.

i dont know how long it takes to get the scores back from the NBME but its nice to be done with a rotation. i have SOOO much to do this weekend, since I'm moving into my new apartment in 2 weeks i have to reserve the truck, call the utilities and start packing. i wont have that much time when i start OB i think. :scared:

got your messages! no, i dont know anything about the test sites at USF and UF. I took the mcat twice, once at UM and once at Nova in ft.lauderdale. That Nova test site was AWESOME, padded chairs that swiveled and reclined and since it was in one of those auditoriums with the long table that serves as a common desk for everyone in the row we had PLENTY of desk space since they spaced us one seat apart from the next person. in a way, it was the perfect test site but i know you're not going to take it in ft.lauderdale, i'm just reminiscing. the one at UM i didnt like at all, it was small desks in classrooms... 👎
Yeah, sorry for that. I was in the middle of registering and I was freaking out a little. Needed advice ASAP...but I am good now. Taking it at UCF. I didn't know you took the MCAT twice?

Someone please explain to me what the difference is between shelf exams and step 1.

Or better yet, outline and explain the exams that all med students have to take. I never really caught on to that!

Thanks 😳
aww meg, no problem my friend. 🙂 i'm sorry, i had no idea what they were either before med school, i hadnt even heard about them. sorry! 😳

ok, so the national board of medical examiners (NBME) are the ones that make steps 1, 2, and 3. the NBME is basically to med students what the AAMC is to premeds. the NBME offers subject exams to medical schools that are called "shelf exams" by med students. those subject exams are suppose to model the format and content of how that subject will be tested on the steps. at my school we only use shelf exams during year 3 for pediatrics, OB/gyn, family medicine, psychiatry, internal medicine and surgery. Those are the only clinical subject exams offered by the NBME and we take them all. Our school uses our grade from those exams and factors that into our rotation grades. So my peds shelf grade will be a big chunk of my peds rotation grade. In a way I love these things because they force you to read the review books and answer USMLE questions from the beginning of 3rd year. All the clinical shelfs I'll take this year are basically identical to the content and style of the USMLE step 2 that I will take next summer.

Some schools like EvoDevo's at San Antonio use shelf exams for the basic sciences as well, so they take the shelf for Micro, Pharm, Physiology, Path, etc.... Those are similar to the content and style of step 1. My school didnt use them because we are on a systems based curriculum for the first 2 years and those shelfs are broken up by each individual science.

Only the USMLE Step 1, 2 and 3 are used for licensure. The shelves are just practice subject exams in a way, except that a lot of schools like mine use them as final exams pretty much so they are very important.

Wow you guys only have shelf exams in 3rd year????? USF med uses Shelf exams for years 1 and 2 as well. I know one of my friends who also is starting 3rd year here at USF right now had to take some shelf exams at the end of his first year in USF.

hey gujudoc! 😀

yeah, since miami is on a systems based curriculum (ie Renal, Respiratory, GI, etc..) and the pre-clinical shelves are only offered by discipline (ie Pathology, Physiology, Micro, etc...) we dont take the basic science shelves, only the clinical science ones. When we cover renal for example we do everything about the kidney together, path, phys, pharm, etc... so it wouldnt work. Too bad the NBME doesnt offer shelves by systems or I'm sure my school would make us take them. In a way I would like that more since we'd be taking step 1 practice questions from the first month of medical school.
