I never got a chance to see SoaP last Friday. I had to wait for UPS all damn day. Hopefully I'll watch SoaP and Beerfest this weekend.

Okay - quick question guys -

Do you think doing an epidemiology type study qualifies as "laboratory or medical research" or is that stretching it? 😉

Yes, I FINALLY got my secondary.

Yes, I FINALLY got my secondary.

I thought you were already in med school? 😕

Not sure.

I passed out doing an epidural once. So I am the same way.
I can give my dogs shots just fine - does that mean I'll be okay with giving people shots? LOL

Enough other things make me feel like passing out, so hopefully I can avoid the needle issue. 😉

Oh, and the study looked at predictors of smoking and smoking relapse in pregnant and postpartum moms.

Kinda medical but I don't know .....

Sounds more like clinical research. So medical research.

Why would you think that it wouldn't count? 😕 Isn't epidemiology a real field??? Put it down, girl!

If you're friend was really driving while drunk, he's an idiot. Sorry, I just don't have a tolerance for stuff like this. I know people who have been hit by drunk drivers.

I agree x infinity. One of the stupidest things you can do that you have control over. In IL your insurance company definitely finds out because now 1st DUI = felony and you lose your license for 3 months.

Well, it's a really field - but in public health. I wasn't sure if that was really relevant to medical school.
ox, public health is still HEALTH. Seriously, they make you take public health/epidemiology coursework in med school, and some schools even offer an MD/MPH or MD/MS option. It definitely counts.

OK. 😉 I'll definitely put it down.

And I have a head start with the epi/biostat classes in med school if they are required where I end up.

Any research you do is worth putting down. I know people who've done research related to topics completely non related to medicine and it hasn't held them back. Any research you've done is worth utting down if you did a lot of significant work with it.

I'd put it down. it seems very much medical related from your description.

Hey - I have some research experience in speech science - I'm DEFINITELY putting it down!

I'd put down any research experience even if it was related to finance or gardening or whatever!
My college thesis research was in plant pathology at an agricultural research center. I put that down on my AMCAS, and I spent one interview discussing the finer points of black spot with one interviewer. He was impressed that I still remembered the pathovar (subspecies) of bacterium that I was working with, let alone the name of the species.

Edit: I got accepted to that school, too, with a scholarship. 👍

Bye for now guys. Kiddos need me. 😉

Oh one last question - what kind of stuff would you talk about in the big "what else do you want us to know about you" section. I could fill it in with lots of things, but I'm not really sure what they expect.

I told them about starting the subforum on SDN. Seriously. Several of the interviewers were pretty interested in that. If you have something like that and it didn't make it on your AMCAS, that's what to write about.
