Plus, Nibbles STILL has some fleas. I saw 3 on her this afternoon. *sigh* I hate to do it, but I'm going to have to shampoo her with the heavy stuff. Last thing I need is for Pete to get fleas, or for them to make a home in my carpets!

I totally need it though. I've gained so much weight in the last 1.5 years - i need to get rid of it!

my blood sugar has been high and my body fat %age is through the roof. I miss being skinny and wearing cute clothes!

oh that's scary about your blood sugar--wow studying for the mcat already. the only advice i have for you is "zebrafish genetics"

I used to workout like crazy up to the first week of May. I'm talking about 10+ miles of bike riding a day. Heavy weight lifting everyother day. 5 meals a day of the same thing. I felt so good and always had energy.

Then came time for this Mkitty crap. I didn't have time for anything. 🙁 I tried working out, but I could only do it about twice a month. I'm so out of shape now and I can't believe it's already been 4 months. I've lost weight (muscle mass) and replaced it with fat. So now I'm lighter, but fatter!!! 🙁

I'm telling Molly you are cheating.

Where is she? Probably having the time of her life. Chicago is my favorite city. I'd love to live there! Just not sure for med school. That would probably ruin the experience.

Med Students, help me out: What can cause increase in red bone marrow AND anemia at the same time? Seems to me that the body would react to chronic blood loss/iron deficiency anemia by creating more bone marrow. (Yes, this is a menstrating female. No, it is not me.)

Hey VD! I am not sure I really understand your question. I don't know the term "red bone marrow" - do you mean precursor red cells? The "amount" of bone marrow is pretty constant, but you can make more cells. For example, in leukemia, the bone marrow is taken over with white cells, causing way too many cells in the bone marrow, but anemia because there is no room for the precursor reds.

Regarding anemia, there are basically two broad types: decreased production, or increased losses. So someone could have increased destruction of red blood cells, their bone marrow would try to compensate by churning out more, but not be able to keep up. A hemepath would be able to figure this out pretty easily, probably even from a peripheral smear without requiring a bone marrow (unless there really is a bone marrow infiltrative process, which would probably cause more symptoms than just anemia - platelets or white cells would probably be down too.)

Wow, school starts early. School doesn't start for another 3 weeks here. Plus, I thought the first week, all the profs cover is the syllabus

BB, time for poker but not SDN. For shame! 😉
