Welcome to Part 6! Everyone did a bang up job by hitting 10k in less than 12 days--11 days 19 hours and 18 minutes to be exact. A new record! 😀

For those not familiar with what we do here, Molly has been kind enough to put together a nice description.

Not sure what the Random thread is all about? Well, here's the answer to all your questions.

It's basically a restaurant. That serves breaststicks. And lots of cute fruit and veggies. And is patronized by a HO. And Tucker Carlson. Vin Diesel, too. Lots of race car drivers eat here, as well. We're very well respected by the Amish... one girl in particular is here almost all the time.

The food is great if you're low on iron. It's not on the menu, but you can ask about the special secret garlic cure home recipe. One of the hostesses often makes weather predictions, but she's not always around. I think she has another job with the government. Or a government. Something like that. One of the other hostesses says "Bitch, please," a lot, but she's joking... don't take it personally.

Forget anything you've heard about the girl who died here from arsenic poisoning. That was a long time ago, and she's still alive, anyway... just busy so she doesn't come in as much. Besides, a little arsenic adds a lot of flavor to just about any dish.

Pretty flowers by the entrance, hey? Lilis, they are. Beautiful. And the music is totally hopping... we have our very own DJ. Looks a little like Brad Pitt.

I guess that's pretty much all you need to know. I'm usually in the corner booth over there drinking a nice glass of wine. You're welcome to join me, anytime. We're open 24/7.

Random cooking tip of the day:

If you get the baked potato out of the oven after it's been in there for an hour and it smells all nice and baked potato-y and you can't wait to dig into it but then you realize there is no sour cream in the house except the stuff that's sitting in the garbage from when you cleaned out the fridge and saw that it expired in July........

blue cheese salad dressing makes a nice alternative. 👍

UF down 10-7 at the half. 😡

That punt return should've been a TD because that wasn't an illegal block in the back. The guy was hit on his side and even looked before being hit!!! ANGRY!!!

Yeah yeah I know. And I hate to admit it because Mushy will freaking kill me, but part of it is that UNT is D.O. Yeah yeah, I know. I'll respect DOs I work with... but I just can't get past it. 🙁 I'm a loser.

😛 Yes you are, but its ok. I understand why some people do not look to DO schools and for good reasons. But if you go to a good DO school you have no issues. TCOM is one of the ones I'd consider good 😉 They have a good research program set up and if I was a TX resident that would be swweeeeeeeeeeeeet. But I'm sticking with OSU-COM for now 😉

No hard feelings I promise. Really. If I thought I had a chance at my state MD school (and the school wasn't a bunch of schmucks - and really, it is) I'd apply only because its less of a hassle with the match. But maybe one day the AOA will grow a pair and just let everyone match together. *sigh* Political BS sucks.

D.O. is expensive. Do they even give merit scholarships? Tuition at NOVA in Ft. Lauderdale is $25k. UF, FSU, and USF are all cheaper by far.

I was only going to apply to DO state schools. UMDNJ and OSU-COM. OSU-COM tuition is $17K and UMDNJ is $22K. Some do give merit scholarships but not many have established funds yet.

Also some of them you can have issues trying to "set up rotations" which is another reason why I love the school I'm applying to. They have a network throughout OK to do your rotations. Plus I have an interest in learning OMM just because it would be an interesting experience. Although its highly subjective to learn and be tested on. There is more than one "right" way but only the way THEY want you know is right. Its all BS. *more politics*

The whole non-sense of travelling rotations is a big turnoff for a lot of DO schools. Most of the MD schools have established Medical Centers with departments big enough to accomodate all students.

i'm waiting for my new title super freak, the clock started ticking at 630PM

I don't like how there are 1,000 DO residency spots for 3,000 graduates a year iirc. If they want to be separate from MD, they shouldn't be allowed to apply to MD residencies, right? Seems fair imo.

exactly. Luckily there are networks all across the united states that are being built to alleviate this problem. OU-COM has a nice one so does MSU-COM and OSU-COM. Both have "shared" resources with MD programs across their state with a network of hospitals. Totally cool if you ask me. I also know that many of the schools have affliated hospitals such as PCOM and now the "southern osteopathic network" or whatever its called for LE-COM/Pcom down south and I think AZCOM has something similar now. SO it varies because quite a few schools do have affliated area hospitals. But you are right, some of these schools are just "doctor mills" churning out students and setting them free for 2 years throughout the US. I don't like that concept (KCUMB comes to mind for that). I like having your core rotations already set up and then you can set up your electives yourself.

Well that is part of the reason why the "younger" generation of DO students want to 'merge' with AMA. AMA already acknowledges DO's as equals but damn AOA keeps pulling the separate but equal ****. Unfortuntately there aren't enough residencies for DO's which is why they were going allopathic to begin with. Goes back to the whole premise that not every DO school has the money to have hospital attached to it and supply residency spots.

So, it was a wasted trip to JHU (like 8 hours RT driving) and then a wasted trip to LensCrafters. Now, I am sick.

I cant stand that! Bummer!

Hubby is being so sweet, but I feel totally horrible. 👎

(That's ok...I have some super plans for a great get-away in October that are making me happy!)😉

I hope you feel better soon TypeA! 😍

Hey, your trip sounds extremely exciting! Where are you going? 😉

I know that Kirksville does this- I was talking to one of our peds residents who went there. Starting in MS3, they ship everyone out to STL, KC, or Columbia to do all of their clinical hours. She said she liked KCOM, but was frustrated at paying all that money to not even be on campus or have access to the resources. Plus she said it sucked to never see any of your classmates if they were sent to a different city for the last 1/2 of training.

exactly. And honestly, quite a few MD schools have to do this too. But that is just because they have affliate hospitals maybe an hour or two away. I know that hubby doesn't get to see alot of his classmates because they are either here or OKC for the most part but the majority are still usually in Tulsa just doing different rotations. There are so many doctors and rotations in this state, which is a good thing I suppose.

I feel lousy.

I'm going to bomb my psych test on Monday because I haven't even been able to stay awake to finish reading the chapters. Hopefully I'll feel well enough tomorrow to review - otherwise this is definitely going to be the one exam that is dropped.

🙁
