Welcome to Part 6! Everyone did a bang up job by hitting 10k in less than 12 days--11 days 19 hours and 18 minutes to be exact. A new record! 😀

For those not familiar with what we do here, Molly has been kind enough to put together a nice description.

It's basically a restaurant. That serves breaststicks. And lots of cute fruit and veggies. And is patronized by a HO. And Tucker Carlson. Vin Diesel, too. Lots of race car drivers eat here, as well. We're very well respected by the Amish... one girl in particular is here almost all the time.

The food is great if you're low on iron. It's not on the menu, but you can ask about the special secret garlic cure home recipe. One of the hostesses often makes weather predictions, but she's not always around. I think she has another job with the government. Or a government. Something like that. One of the other hostesses says "Bitch, please," a lot, but she's joking... don't take it personally.

Forget anything you've heard about the girl who died here from arsenic poisoning. That was a long time ago, and she's still alive, anyway... just busy so she doesn't come in as much. Besides, a little arsenic adds a lot of flavor to just about any dish.

Pretty flowers by the entrance, hey? Lilis, they are. Beautiful. And the music is totally hopping... we have our very own DJ. Looks a little like Brad Pitt.

I guess that's pretty much all you need to know. I'm usually in the corner booth over there drinking a nice glass of wine. You're welcome to join me, anytime. We're open 24/7.

We had a pathologist in to give our first histo lecture... I thought about beary all day!! He showed powerpoint picture slides of all the procedures that the pathology department goes through to process specimens... it was tres cool. 🙂 We get to submit some from our cadavers when we actually get to them. 🙂 🙂

That is very very cool that you will submit sections from your cadavers. I have never heard of a med school doing that before but is a great idea! 😀

that is a very cool idea, my cadaver had what looked like a hapatocellular carcinoma on his liver surface but we never were able to find out for sure. this would have been great.

I'm here! I'm trying to distract myself from the stress of hearing from the medical school by buying a car. :laugh:

I HATE buying cars. Seriously - we were down there earlier today. Told them if they gave us xxx monthly payment for 60 months, they had a deal (because grandma's gift doesn't quite cover what we want so we're financing a little bit). Yeah, so the guy calls me, tells me very specifically that they can give us that payment for 60 months. We get down there and it's 72 freaking months. And they tried to hide it!!!! 😡

Did I mention that I hate buying cars?????? I expect a phone call sometime tomorrow. 🙄 Good thing I don't have my heart completely set on this car or I might give in to their crap.

Oh, man, that sucks. This guy tried to do that to my mom when she was looking at trying to get a different car after my parents divorced. It was all I could do not to throttle him. I bloody fricking hate car salesmen. 🙁 🙁

But, you know, yay for distraction and all. 🙂

Sweet! They made it sound like it was an unusual thing but of course I wasn't sure. I think it will be really neat... I guess we get to do a presentation at the end of all the things we found. 🙂

They're apparently trained to be slimeballs. All to make a little extra $$$. They assume that they have a better chance of selling the car once you are down at the lot.

Very, very frustrating!!

It was nice, though - I didn't think about medical school at all until I got on SDN tonight. 😉 Now I have a big pit in my stomach again. I really have a bad feeling that I'm not going to get in through early decision. 🙁

Oh, I forgot the best part of this whole attempted car buying thing. When I whipped out the print out from edmunds.com showing the "true market value" of the car, the salesperson claimed to never have heard of Edmunds!!!! :laugh: He said, and I quote "What is this Edmunds?"

i kid you not oxeye, at my someplace someplace interview my interviewer said halfway through it after going throgh my file, "yeah, these are some things youre gonna want to work on for next year". as in the following application cycle. 😱

whatever, maybe he was just testing me but i just ignored it like he never said it and here i am. its out of your hands now oxeye, just hope for the best. :luck:

ok that's a stupid thing to pick on you about. you have to focus on all that you have going for you. your mcat score is just amazing--i would say that the vast majority of the other applicants do not have stats as good as yours. be confident!!

wow, what a jerk!!!! Well, maybe that means the interviewers don't get too much of a say. I really do look like a good applicant on paper - just not so sure how I did in person.

awww, thanks. My confidence is shot, though. I really just need to prepare myself for a big let down in a few days. If I get really good news then I can die from shock but I don't want to expect to get in and be devasted if I don't. 🙁

I really hate this whole process.

listen if the adcom is smokin the good stuff then worst case you'll just have to wait a little longer for your acceptance--please don't worry--you've worked so hard so be proud!

I think I'm going to call it a night. I really wanted to watch Heroes and Studio 60, but only made it half way through Heroes because I am so sleepy. 😴 So far, it is pretty good, but not quite as novel as I was expecting. Maybe it will get better - supposedly there is some big twist.

I am feeling sort of stressed even though I am on the world's easiest rotation. 😕

oxeye - sorry about slimey dealers but don't fret my pet! Medical School is in your stars. The magic 8-ball doesn't lie! 😍 😉 I hope you can distract yourself. I will be you next year and I'm dreading it. Worst part is the school doesn't interview until oct/nov and they usually waitlist most of the class. 🙁

Did you get it checked out? ESPECIALLY from a used car place. Have you thought about going to a dealer's used car lot? I would HIGHLY NOT RECOMMEND an independent lot. They overcharge in the first place and their morals are highly compromised. Couple that with the fact that you don't have a reputable dealer to back the purchase...bad idea. Things like the A/C...they can charge that and it will last a few days...you won't know the difference. Then you get it home....oops.

It should not be this stressful.

Ok, here is apparently a little known fact...

Edmunds and KBB online are not identical to NADA which is the official "Blue Book"... dealers go by NADA. You can't access this online. It comes out 4x/year and you can buy one for $9.95 at any bookstore. INVEST IN ONE! It will save you a lot of stress and perhaps money. 😉
