Welcome to Part 6! Everyone did a bang up job by hitting 10k in less than 12 days--11 days 19 hours and 18 minutes to be exact. A new record! 😀

For those not familiar with what we do here, Molly has been kind enough to put together a nice description.

The food is great if you're low on iron. It's not on the menu, but you can ask about the special secret garlic cure home recipe. One of the hostesses often makes weather predictions, but she's not always around. I think she has another job with the government. Or a government. Something like that. One of the other hostesses says "Bitch, please," a lot, but she's joking... don't take it personally.

Forget anything you've heard about the girl who died here from arsenic poisoning. That was a long time ago, and she's still alive, anyway... just busy so she doesn't come in as much. Besides, a little arsenic adds a lot of flavor to just about any dish.

Pretty flowers by the entrance, hey? Lilis, they are. Beautiful. And the music is totally hopping... we have our very own DJ. Looks a little like Brad Pitt.

I guess that's pretty much all you need to know. I'm usually in the corner booth over there drinking a nice glass of wine. You're welcome to join me, anytime. We're open 24/7.

Chin up, Oxeye. Whatever happens re:EDP...happens (eventhough is is going to go EXTREMELY well). You are getting in. Interviews are hard to read sometimes. In 4 years, we will call you "Doxeye". (ok, that was really stupid...but in my current state of mind...SUPER FUNNY!) :laugh:

Molly, sounds like the hydrant has been turned on and you are getting in position....you can do it. 👍 Keep us up to date (at least on your blog)!:idea:

I am totally by myself in here. (both this thread and the student lounge I am in)...weird. Got the iPod going (someone please explain what that is to Q...:meanie:) and I am chillin'. I have an exam this afternoon that I am going to seriously fail, but I think that there is seriously nothing I can do about it. It is not a matter of time or effort. It is a matter of I AM A MATH IDIOT! :scared:

I have resigned myself to this understanding for now. I can't freak about it anymore. 2:00pm will come and go and I will have taken the exam...it is the first one and tomorrow is another day. If I can't get a grip soon...I will have no choice but to drop. I soooooooo DO NOT want to do that. I need to work more tutoring in and move on. My brain is fried. 13 hours of the same crap...enough. why can't I get this? I keep hearing my dad yelling at me in junior high for not being able to get it. That's why I went into marketing and media...so they would leave me alone. Not a lot of math there. I take it back....I lost the company that I built because I didn't do the math and my business partner embezzled. DAMN. How would that go over on a career day?

"Kids, learn your math...or lose a great, successful company." DAMN.

Yes. But, I have 3. One to keep the sun off the seats in my car. One lives in my closet at home. One I keep at work to wear on rare occasions, such as today. 🙂 If it is going to be chilly in the hospital, I may wear it more often. 😱 Though I must admit the pockets have already come in handy today.

Whoa, no posts in an hour!

RANT.

My cardiologist just STAT PAGED me to get blood cultures STAT because of the pacer wire erosion, fevers, and elevated WBC to rule out endocarditis. A few comments about this:

1) WTF.
2) All of this happened last Thursday. We have had no communication since then. Did he just get hit by lightning or something and think of this?
3) I have fevers a lot. I don't know why but don't think it means anything.
4) I was under the distinct impression that this wire erosion deal was purely mechanical and didn't mean anything.
5) I had endocarditis before and it sucked. :scared:
6) Finally, WTF.

I need PW to find me a smiley of putting out fires. One normal week once in a while would be really nice.

😡 😱 :scared: 😕 :barf: <----- me right now

beary - that sucks. I really hope that things get better for you adn I hope he gets things figured out. Maybe he just decided to "glance at your chart". 😡 I hope its not serious. *hugs*

YOU'LL GET IN!!!!! Stop stressing. A couple cycle ago, my friend had interviewed at USF as her first school and didn't have the typical interview you expect at USF. Instead she had a kinda weird interview and really felt bad about her interview there compared to her favorite school up north. She got into USF and waitlisted at the northern school. So you never know.

100% agreed. I remember with med school interviews, and residency interviews to some extent, that interview vibes do not correlate well with acceptance/rejection.

wow beary that sucks but at least you'll know for sure and you'll have peace of mind if you dont have endocarditis or if you do, we would have caught it early.

do you still have your stethoscope? listen to your heart and see if you can pick up any murmurs. wait.... a pathologist with a stethoscope, i wish i had my camera. 😀 😛

i'm sure you'll be fine doc.

Hey Arsenic and Mushy,

Thanks for the well wishes. I already feel bad about my post. Sometimes with this type of thing I have this initial flip out and then settle down. I have had a lot of trouble with my heart these last few months so my frustration level is just really high in general and I am blowing things out of proportion. Sorry.

I probably don't have endocarditis and am sure things will be fine. I don't feel like I have it anyway!

Haha about the stethoscope A-man. Kicker is, I already have an aortic murmur (bicuspid valve) and a tricuspid murmur (regurg). So being a pathologist and all would be unlikely to pick up another one. 🙂 But that is a good idea. I will search around my house for it tonight. 😀

Yeah, definitely. Objectively it makes sense to rule it out, with a history of it, hardware, and evidence of some infectious process. 😳

I'll have to go to micro and check on it, haha. The blood cultures are automated as well but if they flag positive a person does the bug identification. Not that mine will flag positive or anything. 😉

just because they need measuring sticks for all the different applicants. what a waste, 90% of what i learned and studied in undergrad i will never see again. good thing too because i think i've forgotten 95% of it. :laugh:

working. ER, not OR. OR is on medical trips... and I'm still waiting for a spot in OR to open up for me.

i don't really have to wear scrubs, but then again i don't like the idea of working in there without scrubs

At Iowa there were just big piles of them. You didn't have to turn in your old ones to get new ones. Here the path residents just get them in the morgue. I don't know what everybody else does.

I am really weird in that I don't find scrubs that comfy. There is no "give" to the material. I would rather wear a cotton polo and slacks, which is my standard uniform. 😳

The one good thing about scrubs is that you can wear sneakers, which is hard to do with dress clothes.

Thanks and no prob! I got frustrated and just came home. Am skipping AP grand rounds. 😀 Hopefully I don't get paged about anything.

I'm gonna work on my grand rounds for Friday and probably take a nap.

just wear a size bigger than you and throw a white coat over it if you want the give. that way you dont look silly in the bigger size and still feel comfy. 😀

:laugh: That's good advice!

We had brain cutting in the morgue today and one of the residents was doing an autopsy at the same time. It was really funny because all the path residents were just wearing our street clothes, lounging around, etc. There were med students and neuroradiology folks there and they put on gown, mask, gloves, booties, etc. :laugh:
