A few ground rules. Everything you post must be RANDOM and more importantly, only peripherally related to the MCAT. See my example post below. I now await Beary's shirtless pic of Carl Edwards. C'mon Beary, A-man is dying to see it. 😀

This is Ana's example:

I would like to learn fencing. Looks fun.

I feel unusually fat today and should really move my butt.
I've always wanted to learn fencing, too!

I was feeling unusually in need of a treat today and so I ordered pizza. OMG, it was fabulous. But I will likely be feeling unusually fat tomorrow as well.

Move when you feel better, babe! For now rest and heal!

you're sick right? no working otu when youre sick

i didnt swim when i was sick

Yeah, no, certainly not working out. I feel like a superwoman for walking from the parking garage to my office and back every day this last week.

Gotta make changes though, when I am well again. 👍

😍

i was going to put up this pic on facebook of my friend and i by your statue and tag the statue as you. but then i didn't know if you would find that funny.
Are you kidding me???? I'd probably have pissed myself I'd be laughing so hard.

OK, maybe TMI. Sorry. 😳

jlw - I need you to psychoanalzye this terrible nightmare I had this evening. It was SO TERRIBLE and I still have the heebie jeebies from it.

There were these serial killers in my neighborhood and they were dumping all the bodies in the pond. The bodies were all nasty and rotted but they were moaning and moving around (like in a horror movie). And the serial killers were coming after me, and my locks wouldn't work, and I was hiding in my house. Seriously I cannot even look at the pond now and still have all the lights in my house on. :scared:

Damn, girlfriend. You should write horror flicks.

My totally uneducated guess? Having actually seen an autopsy + reading Stephen King + weird drug metabolites in bloodstream = Bizarro dreams.

I have no experience whatsoever in dream analysis.

That said, the killers could represent your medical issues and the entire thing is about the lack of control you have regarding the bacteria which are invading and which you're trying to fend off.

Just a guess.

Speaking of you, beary, I thought about you yesterday! We had a dermpath come give our skin lecture. She was totally awesome. With that and the loving histo more than I ever freaking thought I would, path has suddenly burst onto the scene of potential specialties for me. Knock me over with a feather, you could!

Yeah that's pretty much what I was thinking too. It's going to be hard to go back to sleep after that one. :scared:

She's good.

Wow, that's great! Path is great! Seems like more M1s lately are at least aware of path. I don't know if my med school was unusually bad at that or what but it was hard to find out anything about it since it wasn't a required rotation.

My constant bitching about my work stems from minor unhappiness with my program, not with pathology as a whole.

Whoa. 😱 That's deep. Hmmmm.

This dermpath person was really cool because she does it all. Sees patients, does surgical procedures, works in the lab... that really appeals to me.

It was a really cool day for me as well because we had derm residents come to our lab to help us out with our slides. Of course, no one was asking our derm resident about the slides -- they were all asking her about skin creams and cosmetic stuff and, while she was a good sport about it, it was pretty clear she was getting a bit sick of it. So I walked up to her, and she looked at me and said straight off, "You have rosacea." And I said, "Why, yes, I do, but that's not what I wanted to ask you about," and I asked about what sort of clinical research is going on in derm here. She seemed relieved to talk about something else so we had a pretty good conversation about it. At the end she looked at me and said, "I hope you don't mind but I'd actually really like to recruit you into a study I'm doing." She's working on laser treatments and one of the areas she's looking at is rosacea. I have wanted to get the laser treatments forever but they are not covered by insurance and they are really expensive so I had resigned myself to waiting many more years. And now I get to have them! I'm really stoked. 🙂

haha- MM- new post in PA:

Easy answer. Nurses help patients, Doctors treat patients. Huge difference. Nursing doesn't teach how to treat patients or what to prescribe them. Medicine does.

that's you and I. we're helpers, we are.
Heh, I just saw that one. I decided that someone like that is beyond my help.

Tucker!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ana's inebriated. I'm enjoying a nice glass of wine after my day of massive studying. jlw is quoting Freud. Beary is having bad dreams.
I'm just catching up on my TV watching. Trying to clear off my DVR.
I watched the Office, Lost, and Jericho tonight. Still have ER and GA left but I'm getting kinda sleepy.

I had 3 cheese coneys today. I had to get food before the next football game of the day.

They sure were delicious.
one small (kid-size, actually) 4-way with beans
+one cheese coney, no onions
+oyster crackers
+Dr. Pepper

Yeah, dermpath is great. That person probably did a residency in derm and a fellowship in dermpath. You can do dermpath fellowships from either a derm or a path residency. Dermpaths are the best compensated physicians, and accordingly, these are one of the most (if not THE most) competitive fellowships. (I mean in any field, not just in path and derm). Pathologists who do dermpath have to do a year of clinical derm experience but don't end up doing surgeries and things since they're not dermatologists.

That is great news about getting the laser treatments!

Yeah, I'm not going to hang my hat on dermpath (or even derm, for that matter). But it's very cool and definitely something I'm interested in doing an elective in. And possibly my research for this coming summer... 🙂
