Is it worth putting money in a 401K for 1 year? My company, because they have a really kick ass pension plan, only puts in 50 cents for every dollar on the 401K. I know its worth it in the long haul but i want as much money as possible at the start of med school. Any thoughts?

Depends how much money imo. If you're making quite a bit, I'd say put the majority in there and save a couple to several thousand as cash (maybe put into 6mo/1yr CDs) for med school.

I would like to add that I'm against putting all my money into one source. I like to keep it spread out based on liquidity. Some in checking account, some on hand cash, some in CDs/bonds, and some in retirement accounts.

Check out www.bankrate.com for some CD rates. HSBC isn't the highest, those are usually found in smaller bank chains. One reason I recommend HSBC is because it's one of the largest banks in the world so the risk of losing that money is smaller than most.

If it's less than $100k CD, absolutely make sure it's FDIC insured. Most, if not all, are pretty much insured.

Grumman, also depending on your tax bracket, muni bonds might be a better choice. You don't pay income tax on those, which CDs require, but the rates are less than CDs to make up for this. Be sure to check those out to to find the best stuff.

NES was worse, but I still had problems with SNES. Even had to whip out the ole' q-tip and alcohol bit a few times. I didn't have to do it for Donkey Kong on SNES a few months ago, though. Fired right up.

thanks, i'm going to try to learn about all this stuff this year so that maybe when I become a doctor i might know the best way of getting myself out of debt
