See this is one of the reasons why I second guess myself whether I should share personal info on an anonymous forum or just remain incognito. I would find what he did very disturbing unless he was a close friend of mine :laugh:

The Miami-Dade Police Department and the University of Miami join forces.

Oct. 14, 2006

The Miami Dade Police Department kicked off their annual "Join-a-Team, Not-a-Gang program on Tuesday, October 10th. This program is a cooperative effort, which includes Miami Dade Public Schools, the University of Miami Athletic Department, and Florida Power & Light Company.

The program gives out a "Most Improved Student Award". Each hard working student will get a chance to visit a University of Miami football practice, a tour of athletic facilities, and a chance to meet the University of Miami football coaches and student-athletes.

Students are selected by their school and selection is based on improvement in academics, behavior, and attendance. The visits take place once a week and continue through football season. Winners and a D.A.R.E. officer from each school will be visiting the school once a week throughout the football season.

This Saturday, the Miami Dade Police Department will bring about 700 children to the Miami vs. FIU football game as part of the program.

are you applying this cycle? usually it takes forever, i'm not kididing. when i applied back in '03 I was an august MCATer and submitted my secondary around Nov. I didnt get the interview invite until mid-APRIL. I'm serious, I had given up all hope for this place by then since it had been 5 months since I had submitted my secondary so when I got the interview invite I was shocked. Then I got my interview in early May, 10 days later I was placed on the alternate list. again, I thought all hope for this place was lost. 1 week after being on the alternate list I got a phonecall from the dean of admissions. 😍

Dean: now arsenic.... i see here that you've been accepted to school A, B, and C is that right?
Me: um.... yeah, and school D... just got their offer last week
Dean: oh i see.... well the reason i'm calling is to make your decision just a little more difficult. 😍 😍 😍

i freaking LOVE this place, LOVE IT. i grew up here will, this was my hometown med school. i grew up watching the local news and seeing the rescue helicopter land on the roof of the trauma center and the doctors up there rushing to the patient. when i was given the chance to get my MD here I just couldnt pass it up. i told this to the dean but its true, when i first thought of medical school in 7th grade, it was THIS SCHOOL that I thought of. the day i walked into it to interview was a dream come true. even as a florida resident, this was the only school in the state i applied to.

can you tell i kinda like my school? :laugh:

Now you're making me freak out! 😱

I made the dumb mistake of using UF's letter of recommendation service. I can't send them out to individual schools, they're sent out all at once. So I've been trying to get all my secondaries at once, but it doesn't look like that will happen. 🙁 Is it a bad idea to only apply to 5 schools? Because that's all I'm interested in (and my best chances), lol.

did you take the april or august mcat will? sorry, i just get you guys mixed up.

for some reason it took forever for them to process me but that might not be the case with you, dont worry. are you really only applying to 5 schools? i'd probably at least double that, i think i applied to like 16 to eventually get 4 acceptances and like 3 wait lists. the rest were either rejections or i decided not to go ahead with the secondary or interview. the nice thing is that since we're still in mid october you can still edit your school list without a problem, dont worry. 👍

how long is it gonna take that gator committee to get you your letter(s)? 😡

Gator committee? We don't have one so we just have to get 2 science, 1 non-science, and some random one. Unfortunately, they ditch your letters if you reapply the next cycle instead of sending them back and getting new dates on them and re-signed. So I'm already in this cycle no matter what now I suppose. I've had the LORs sitting at the UF LOR sevice office since June so now I just need to send them (UF COM wont' accept them til my secondary is complete, not sure about the rest...). I can't even send them out individually which pisses me off.

I would've applied to more OOS schools had my MCAT been better, but even if that was the case, I would've preferred to stay in-state. I just like FL too damn much. 🙂 I have seen some schools where I might've gone through well with my stats, but the location and info I could find on the schools just weren't really for me. Only a few were. I know 5 is just really low, but I guess I could keep lookin'.

so this Pavlov stuff triggered a childhood memory...

I recall (fondly) having a gray stuffed dog who had a long snout and a big black nose, and the name on his tag was Pavlov.. which my Dad thought was really funny and at the time (I was probably 8?) I didn't get.

dang that thing was cute. I wonder if he's still at my Mom's house? hmmm.. an Ebay check comes up empty. 🙁

In an accident witnessed by a group that included Barbara Walters and screenwriters Nora Ephron and Nicholas Pileggi, Wynn accidentally poked a hole in Picasso's 74-year-old painting, "Le Reve," French for "The Dream."

A day earlier, Wynn had finalized a record $139 million deal for the painting of Picasso's mistress, Wynn told The New Yorker magazine

The accident occurred as a gesturing Wynn, who suffers from retinitis pigmentosa, an eye disease that affects peripheral vision, struck the painting with his right elbow, leaving a hole the size of a silver dollar in the left forearm of Marie-Theresa Walter, Picasso's 21-year-old mistress.

"Oh ****, look what I've done," Wynn said, according to Ephron, who gave her account in a blog published on Monday.

Wynn paid $48.4 million for the Picasso in 1997 and had agreed to sell it to art collector Steven Cohen. The $139 million would have been $4 million higher than the previous high for a work of art, according to The New Yorker.

Cosmetics magnate Ronald Lauder paid $135 million in July for Gustav Klimt's 1907 portrait "Adele Bloch-Bauer I."

The ladder is getting reset in WoW too when the expansion comes out. I actually don't know how much about how that is going to change things. I need to check that out.
