how's your studying going guys? are you freaking out? burned out?

this is our stress relief thread....or our group anxiety thread, whatever..... 😀

for those of you that have no idea what the mcat random threads are about, check out molly's explanation:

MollyMalone said:
It's basically a restaurant. That serves breaststicks. And lots of cute fruit and veggies. And is patronized by a HO. And Tucker Carlson. Vin Diesel, too. Lots of race car drivers eat here, as well. We're very well respected by the Amish... one girl in particular is here almost all the time.

The food is great if you're low on iron. It's not on the menu, but you can ask about the special secret garlic cure home recipe. One of the hostesses often makes weather predictions, but she's not always around. I think she has another job with the government. Or a government. Something like that. One of the other hostesses says "Bitch, please," a lot, but she's joking... don't take it personally.

Forget anything you've heard about the girl who died here from arsenic poisoning. That was a long time ago, and she's still alive, anyway... just busy so she doesn't come in as much. Besides, a little arsenic adds a lot of flavor to just about any dish.

Pretty flowers by the entrance, hey? Lilis, they are. Beautiful. And the music is totally hopping... we have our very own DJ. Looks a little like Brad Pitt.

I guess that's pretty much all you need to know. I'm usually in the corner booth over there drinking a nice glass of wine. You're welcome to join me, anytime. We're open 24/7.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO POST HERE, you're welcome to jump in at anytime. Here's the final tally from part 7:

Yeah, if I ever get married I think I will always wear mine as well. But like you said, probably just a band, especially at work! (Don't think diamonds and autopsies would go together well :scared: )

Good Call...gunk is gross to get out.

I'll have to watch it. I was overwhelmed by the 50 min - would have to work on my attention span. 😳

its totally worth it beary, it flies by. basically it looks at the M1s of Harvard Medicals Class of 1991. So it starts in 1987, then it shows them as M3's.... at graduation...... at internship/residency and then 10 years after graduation in 2001. its really well done and incredibly interesting.

My husband can't wear his ring at work lest his finger get caught and ripped off. But he wears it when we are out in public. I wear mine unless I know I'm going to be doing something yucky.

Oh my gosh, a friend of mine in med school got married and was playing golf on his honeymoon (like, had been married just a few days). The ball went over a fence and he went to hurdle over the fence. His wedding ring got caught in one of the links in the fence and ripped his whole ring finger off. 🙁 Was really sad. Fortunately he recovered fine and ended up saying later that your ring finger is one of the best ones to lose, but still, what a rough way to start a marriage. 🙁

I love my Toshiba. And...well...as you know, PWH is having an ongoing affair with his. The only problems I have had have been software issues. No problems with the hardware. I used to have one of those 12" iBooks....too small. In 5 years, I am going to be the only one walking around with my full sized laptop.

Yeah, I was looking at Toshibas last night. And HPs and Sonys. I can't believe how prices have come down - looks like you can get a really really solid machine for less than a thousand bucks. I have a perfectly good mac powerbook (what I'm using right now!) but was infatuated with the idea of sitting in the recliner in my living room with a fancy new laptop playing WoW and watching TV. 😍

Ouch BEARY!

🙁 My Xmas card to jlw got returned - I put the wrong zip code on the envelope - apparently I put my zip code for her address!

OMG one of the docs is freaking out from a guy dying on the operating table - I think she's upset b/c she told him he'd be fine.

Sounds cool - will definitely have to look at it! 👍

I never take my rings off 😳 Neither does hubby. (that I know of :meanie: ) I only take off if hands are swollen. Occasionally its hard to sleep so I take them off but now that I'm dieting (ok, supposedly dieting) I don't have much of a problem.

I had toshiba and when I went in to get a new laptop bc toshiba issues with best buy and it being in service for so long, the guy recommended teh HP because they hardly have any issues. Hubby had many issues wtih HP with his prior laptops b/c that was a design issue which hopefully they've fixed ...

Just make sure you know what specs you want for gaming when you purchase!

Oh yeah, for sure! I was laughing because at Best Buy when you click on any of the laptops "gaming" information World of Warcraft is what comes up. Apparently I am not the only person wondering if it will run WoW with no problem. 😉

Apparently, much of the world has the same priorities as our HO-1.

Hooray for Randomite MSTP invites in Nellyville! :horns:  :hardy:  :horns:

And hooray for an all day Flavor of Love marathon on VH1! Apparently New York is getting her own show. 😱

Why oh why do all my randomites like Wash U so much. *shakes head*

(With the obvious exception of having jlw nearby making you special cookies to get through first year stress)

Yeah, rethink the use of the word "all" right there... because I would have traded a WashU acceptance with either of them for Vandy or Michigan. 😉

We're just excited!

Acceptance = excitement 😀

YAY CONGRATS to Mr. Tee and Dr. Durden.

We should start calling Mr. Tee: Dr. Dr. Tee!!! :meanie: :meanie:

 LMAO!!!

BTW why were you guys saying the blonde guy who became a psychiatrist in that video was snobby?? I didn't get that impression and trust me I've seen some of the worst form of physician snobs in my life. Mostly the snobs I've seen have been where I live.

I'm digging the huge glasses and big hair!

I hate to say it, but te blond doc from the first one - the psych guy - he was a bit of a snob. This is Haaaaaaaaaah-vahd, dear!

Well I just posted this in my other post, but how come you thought he was snobby?? I didn't get that impression. Actually the only thing odd I noticed about him was his constant umm's and uhh's when he was talking like he was nervous. I mean there was that one time where I think it was him who said he didn't want to be doing the interview at that moment, but i didn't get the impression that he was a full out snob. I was actually pleasantly surprised by the fact that they seemed more normal then I expected them to be after all the snobbery in my hometown amongst doctors. They didn't seem to be the kind who were in medicine for the money but rather enjoyed their work and what they did.

Anyone else a little worried about how both of the physicians they showed on that video who got married during medical school/residency were divorced by the end of it? 🙁

The residency hours were a lot worse then, then they are now. That and as they pointed out, those girls were kinda needy.

But I mean think about this logically. Logically, there are 168 hours in a week. If 120 of those hours are spent at the hospital working. That means you only have about 48 hours out of the hospital with your family. How do you expect things to work when the conditions are that harsh and they were married during the worst parts of the medical training period?? If they'd met at a later time in the doctor's lives (i.e. when they were out of med school and residency, fully practicing) things probably might have been different because there would have been a better schedule for the doctors and hence more time to spend with their wives. That is my take on this matter. While I think that video correctly depicts a lot of the issues, I think there's some things which have changed dramatically which wasn't depicted by that video. For instance, the fact that residency is now 80 hrs instead of 120 hrs., the fact that there are lifestyle specialties that while albeit competitive are not as bad as some of the other fields out there (i.e. derm, rads, etc.). Because of the advent of more nontrads and more females in medicine, there's more help for people with families who are in medicine then there probably was back then.

I tried to get disability insurance through the hospital but can't because a pacemaker is an automatic exclusion. 🙁 😡

I can't get life insurance either. That's not a big deal to me because I don't have dependents but I would sleep better at night if I had some disability insurance. :scared: If I get sick I am just SOL.

Even under a group plan you are still subject to those exclusions?? You have got to be kidding!!

I can't imagine doing 120. I would die, literally. But 80 hrs is bad - I have been running very close to 80 during some of my rotations. I'm single and have no family obligations and I just get so tired, apathetic, and worn out. I feel like I'm just trying to survive from one day to the next.

Well I just posted this in my other post, but how come you thought he was snobby??

Something about him gave off a snobby vibe to me. The others didn't though. Maybe it was the way he talked to the old man during the H&P - I realize the old man was getting frustrated but at some points I really wanted to slap the boy. His story was interesting though.

I got the same impression megboo. Can't put my finger on why, though.
