how's your studying going guys? are you freaking out? burned out?

this is our stress relief thread....or our group anxiety thread, whatever..... 😀

for those of you that have no idea what the mcat random threads are about, check out molly's explanation:

MollyMalone said:
It's basically a restaurant. That serves breaststicks. And lots of cute fruit and veggies. And is patronized by a HO. And Tucker Carlson. Vin Diesel, too. Lots of race car drivers eat here, as well. We're very well respected by the Amish... one girl in particular is here almost all the time.

The food is great if you're low on iron. It's not on the menu, but you can ask about the special secret garlic cure home recipe. One of the hostesses often makes weather predictions, but she's not always around. I think she has another job with the government. Or a government. Something like that. One of the other hostesses says "Bitch, please," a lot, but she's joking... don't take it personally.

Forget anything you've heard about the girl who died here from arsenic poisoning. That was a long time ago, and she's still alive, anyway... just busy so she doesn't come in as much. Besides, a little arsenic adds a lot of flavor to just about any dish.

Pretty flowers by the entrance, hey? Lilis, they are. Beautiful. And the music is totally hopping... we have our very own DJ. Looks a little like Brad Pitt.

I guess that's pretty much all you need to know. I'm usually in the corner booth over there drinking a nice glass of wine. You're welcome to join me, anytime. We're open 24/7.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO POST HERE, you're welcome to jump in at anytime. Here's the final tally from part 7:

I despise sarcastic people.

Just thought I'd write that down somewhere.

Sarcasm is good sometimes - if you're the one bing sarcastic, that is 😉

Just read your mdapps, looks like we're applying to a lot of the same schools next cycle... of course most people could probably say the same to you 😀.

Univ. MO-Columbia takes some out-of-staters from bordering states, but you'll have to fill out some extra paperwork/write an extra essay or something.

Univ. MO-KC is entirely a 6-year combined undergrad+MD program. They rarely take anyone who has a bachelors or more.

I can't imagine doing 120. I would die, literally. But 80 hrs is bad - I have been running very close to 80 during some of my rotations. I'm single and have no family obligations and I just get so tired, apathetic, and worn out. I feel like I'm just trying to survive from one day to the next.

Yeah I wasn't trying to say that 80 hours is good, just that its better then 120. I question how many people would even consider medicine still if the residency hours were still that horrendous.

I tried to give up sarcasm for Lent once. That lasted about 45 minutes. 😳

Is Un-MO KC the program that used to be affiliated with Rockhurst?

maybe....... it's a 6-yr BS/MD program, although you can get into an MD-only program there to fill the spots of the people who left the 6-yr program. they have a lot more upper-level bio requirements to do that, since they only teach it once in order to compact the schedule.

nik: doesn't say anywhere on the nike website about the music speeding up as you run faster. but there's a power song thing... blah blah blah

Something about him gave off a snobby vibe to me. The others didn't though. Maybe it was the way he talked to the old man during the H&P - I realize the old man was getting frustrated but at some points I really wanted to slap the boy. His story was interesting though.

I don't think he was snobby to the old man at all. I got the impression that he was trying his best to explain the situation but the patient was not willing to let him get a word in and try to explain what is meant by different people using the word numb. If he was trying to be snobby he'd have talked in a condescending tone of voice, insulted the patient, or been totally obnoxious. My impression was that he was in an awkward position where he was trying to explain but the patient seriously wasn't really letting him get a word in.

Why oh why do all my randomites like Wash U so much. *shakes head*

(With the obvious exception of having jlw nearby making you special cookies to get through first year stress)
It's not just cookies. I've been perfecting the brownie thing as well.

Consider this: chocolate brownies, from scratch- real butter, real eggs, real vanilla, real sugar.... a bag of mint and chocolate swirled chips mixed in with the batter.... topped with chocolate frosting and red white and green candy sprinkles.....

😍 😍 😍

now if THAT isn't worth getting excited over, you can turn in your Woman card at the door, sister. 😛 😀

Yum yum yum!!! 😍

I really have got to get to St. L. soon!

See.... I got the impression that he was being condescending, even when trying to explain to the attending doc about the situation. There were better ways of going about that situation, and I think he made it worse by talking about different definitions of the word numb. The old man probably didn't think he was being taken seriously and not believed when the MD student went on about that.

But, that's just my perception.

I'll give you that much. In the back what he said with the attending may not have been the way to approach it, but in the patients room I rewatched that part and it clearly showed that the patient did not even want to let him try to explain and get a word in. I don't get the impression that the patient was even listening to what he was trying to say.

I agree Meg. It seemed like he needed to ask more specific questions, ie "Is it a pins and needles feeling?", "Do you have any sensation at all?", etc. I think the patient would have been more willing to elaborate given that type of questioning.

I'm finally complete at my first batch of schools... it's been 8 hours, what's taking them so long on sending me these interviews? :meanie:

how i spent my last couple of hours:

for any of you that liked "9 crimes" by damien rice when we talked about it a couple of weeks ago and have a piano/keyboard, that video will show you how to play it.

god, the artistic side of my brain is soooooooo ******ed, i can barely keep the notes straight.

i think later on in that segment he talks about forgetting things he's supposed to do... procedure wise. i kinda chalked it up to that, forgetting to ask the pt to describe the numbness (pins and needles, etc)

i didn't think he was snobby. just very very awkward
