how's your studying going guys? are you freaking out? burned out?

this is our stress relief thread....or our group anxiety thread, whatever..... 😀

for those of you that have no idea what the mcat random threads are about, check out molly's explanation:

MollyMalone said:
It's basically a restaurant. That serves breaststicks. And lots of cute fruit and veggies. And is patronized by a HO. And Tucker Carlson. Vin Diesel, too. Lots of race car drivers eat here, as well. We're very well respected by the Amish... one girl in particular is here almost all the time.

The food is great if you're low on iron. It's not on the menu, but you can ask about the special secret garlic cure home recipe. One of the hostesses often makes weather predictions, but she's not always around. I think she has another job with the government. Or a government. Something like that. One of the other hostesses says "Bitch, please," a lot, but she's joking... don't take it personally.

Forget anything you've heard about the girl who died here from arsenic poisoning. That was a long time ago, and she's still alive, anyway... just busy so she doesn't come in as much. Besides, a little arsenic adds a lot of flavor to just about any dish.

Pretty flowers by the entrance, hey? Lilis, they are. Beautiful. And the music is totally hopping... we have our very own DJ. Looks a little like Brad Pitt.

I guess that's pretty much all you need to know. I'm usually in the corner booth over there drinking a nice glass of wine. You're welcome to join me, anytime. We're open 24/7.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO POST HERE, you're welcome to jump in at anytime. Here's the final tally from part 7:

geez, Nik! that's why we don't LOOK at the nutritional contents! sheesh...

trust me--i never will again. ruins everything! pecan pie used to be my fave ( ok actually it still is) until i found out i might as well be eating big macs or something. seriously--one piece of pecan pie has like 25 grams of fat!

ok but seriously--you would think that sweet potatoes wouldn't be that bad.....they're potatoes not ho-hos

It's full of carbs, which of course get stored as fat, but it's not bad when you need food for energy. At one point, I was eating 500+ calorie brownies in addition to breakfast when I was heavy into working out and was still losing weight...

When I swam in high school I was up to 4500 calories a day. That was with 5am practice and after school practice for 3 hours, with lifting 3 days a week. Talk about intense.

Our team dominated so it was worth it. We won the PA State Championships 3 out of 4 years while I was there (at the very highest division too!) Ah, the glory days

Cool! I know a few swimmers. What did you do? The fly is my favorite, but I suck ass at it!

You must've been eating a lot to sustain that. Putting on weight for me was hard because I'd just burn it up quickly. Did you guys get rings for the championships?

Mornin' Beary. 🙂

How many smelly rotten dead bodies do you get to work on today?! 🙂

So far none. We have a hospital case but my co-HO is up (I did the last one, we alternate). I just signed out placentas. Now have to preview an ME case. I could still get a case before 1 but hopefully hopefully not.

I am WAY tired today. 😴

I swam free and back. We hadn't lost a duel meet in 10 years my senior year (and I think to this day they haven't lost.) I didn't even get to compete at States because in swimming, each team can only use a certain amount of swimmers based on how well they did at districts (the logistics of a swimming championships are a little wacky). So I got to compete at Districts, but our team was stacked with 7 swimmers who went to swim for D1 schools (one was my younger brother 😳 ) So I never got to actually swim at States. BUT....our whole team got the medals and plaques

I will never be in that kind of shape again. I could hold my breath for 2 minutes and recover easily and swim the length of a 50m pool 3 and 1/2 times under water. Swimming is the ultimate sport for getting in shape. Low impact, great cardio conditioning.

It sucks that without competing its just so gosh darn boring

That is awesome. 👍

175m underwater is insane though! :wow: I had problems going under my pool (80 ft round trip) underwater. 😱

I have held my breath for 2 minutes underwater a few times. However, it was the position where I lay face down in the water, motionless, like I'm dead and just floating. It would take a minute or so to recover from that...

+1 about swimming being the best way for getting in shape. Low stress on the joints, excellent cardio, etc. Water sports in general are my favorite. Tubing (not a sport) and water skiing are fun, too.

😛 I knew i forgot the PENCILS (learn how to spell 😛 ) 😉

my computer doesn't even have word on it to spell check. Damn hooked on phonics didn't work for me.

I want to learn archery and fencing, more archery though. Gun ranges are cool. Just went again this weekend. I've shot more rounds in my gun than my husband this year. :meanie: I've had my gun for a year and shot more than he has . 😛 I'm going for my CCL license tomorrow. Come on down to t-town as I have membership to an outdoor range and a selection of projectile devices 😉

But wait. I thought guns were bad?
Wrong, guns are good, in fact, did you know Jesus and Moses used guns to defeat the romans?

Good luck with Pitt! How close is the campus to the Steeler's stadium? 😀

Hopefully this list is right:

Accepted: oxeye, ana. Applying: s&m, lil, nikki
Accepted: Fe, Durden. Applying: ump, tee, and me

Did I miss anyone?
 the campus is about a 15 minute ride to the stadium. 🙂

but more importantly, it's about a 10 minute ride to my parents' house with the HUGE flat-screen TV (56")...much better view than you get at the stadium. 😛

and beary- I am so sorry to hear about your parents. virtual hugs for now, and this means we definitely need to hook up next week so I can give you a real one.

Thanks jlw (and everybody else for the hugs! You folks are wonderful! 😍 ) Don't know if I'm going home now, obviously. But hopefully we will see each other soon. 🙂

He was in one of my classes in high school. I don't consider him my friend, but my brother is friends with his brother.

Good thing I only drink water at restaurants. Not only is it not bad for you like 2 pounds of sugar drinks are, but you can tell if someone pissed in it or not. 👍
wow, gross. 😛

what if they had really really dilute urine?

How YOU doin'? 🙂 HD?

I was at my friend's on Sunday to watch the Bears' game in HD on their Samsung DLP (same size tv). Wow, I miss HDTV. We watched the Discovery channel until 4AM. It was intense.

mmmmm, yummy pecan pie.

i only eat it when my mom makes it. it's SOOOOOO good.

yup, HD. it ROCKS. i hate coming back to boston where i have my teeny 22" TV with no HD.

i had to show my mom how the HD works...she didn't believe that it looks so much better until i flipped back and forth between the non-HD channel and the HD channel (I think it was CBS or something, but she definitely got the picture).

I played water polo too. Our school has 15 state championships in water polo, but then again there are only around 40 - 50 teams in the entire state so its not nearly as impressive as most sports.

No sport I can think of is more brutal than water polo. 80% of your body is under water and unprotected, where the refs can't see whats going on most of the time due to the turbulence of the water. Imagine somone sticking his hand down your speedo and twisting your nutz while you are trying to take a shot. Yes, it happens 😱
Vivid imagery. You rival Fitzgerald.

Awww 😍 😍 😍

What are you doing to celebrate?

They tried to get me to do 41 shots. :barf:

So JLW was keeping me company while I was waiting on midnight... and we've decided...

I'm trading EvoDevo for Mr. T and Score Twin. Boys, prepare to move to Texas. 😉

Fine, be that way. 😡

ok, SOME of us have an organic chem test in 50 minutes. which means SOME of us should probably get going and get to campus.

catch you guys later. wish me :luck:, b/c I'm gonna need it!

Good luck, not that you need it as a science rawkstar! :luck:

So I just hit this wall of exhaustion where I literally am this tired:

fair-exhaustion.jpg

When to do placentas? This evening, or very first thing in the morning?? So I would have to get up much earlier? Right now, I'm so tired I'm leaning towards the morning.

This is a direct quote from an email from a high-up in pathology here:

"Careweb is NOT, however, an "equally timely and effective" method in many of our practice and cannot be presumed effective in these circumstances. A recent case highlights the gaps that remain when we assume that someone will actually read and act on pathology information, in this particular case resulting in a 3-year delay of treatment for a malignant lesion! The daily reports being generated will be distributed directly to signing faculty and will also be reviewed daily."

(Careweb is our electronic medical record).

She should come to our house. My dad has a 65" TV and it's REALLY OBVIOUS how much better HD is 👍

Okay we're not giving my friends ideas, okay? :barf:

Fine, be that way. 😡

I traded for you, twin! You're moving down here with T and she's getting stinky Evo! 🙁 don't be mad at me!

(or we're all moving to Nashville or A^2)

Go talk to the admissions commitee!

They were meeting today! I laughed at them actually. All sitting in there in their little white coats and they all have individual laptops. It was pretty funny. I wondered if they were preparing acceptances for you and T! 😀

Ah, now I get the trade. (*smacks self in forehead*) We're still cool then. 🙂

Oh, and definitely argue to do your GPA instead of MCAT in shots on a weeknight. 👍
