how's your studying going guys? are you freaking out? burned out?

this is our stress relief thread....or our group anxiety thread, whatever..... 😀

for those of you that have no idea what the mcat random threads are about, check out molly's explanation:

MollyMalone said:
It's basically a restaurant. That serves breaststicks. And lots of cute fruit and veggies. And is patronized by a HO. And Tucker Carlson. Vin Diesel, too. Lots of race car drivers eat here, as well. We're very well respected by the Amish... one girl in particular is here almost all the time.

The food is great if you're low on iron. It's not on the menu, but you can ask about the special secret garlic cure home recipe. One of the hostesses often makes weather predictions, but she's not always around. I think she has another job with the government. Or a government. Something like that. One of the other hostesses says "Bitch, please," a lot, but she's joking... don't take it personally.

Forget anything you've heard about the girl who died here from arsenic poisoning. That was a long time ago, and she's still alive, anyway... just busy so she doesn't come in as much. Besides, a little arsenic adds a lot of flavor to just about any dish.

Pretty flowers by the entrance, hey? Lilis, they are. Beautiful. And the music is totally hopping... we have our very own DJ. Looks a little like Brad Pitt.

I guess that's pretty much all you need to know. I'm usually in the corner booth over there drinking a nice glass of wine. You're welcome to join me, anytime. We're open 24/7.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO POST HERE, you're welcome to jump in at anytime. Here's the final tally from part 7:

Yeah, I have only had it once with jlw and megboo. Too beer-like for me.

WINERIES IN ST. LOUIS! 😍

Hehe. I think I had a sip of someone's before. I don't mind beer, but that had a very sweet taste to it.

We're supposed to get several inches of snow on Friday, mixed with freezing rain and sleet! 😱

It was in the 60s today but the temperature is supposed to plummet tomorrow. I have my windows open now!

beary it was soooo warm here today--probably around 70. i can't remember it ever being so warm at this time--usually it's snowing

How cute is this?

(Though, I think I am getting a wine cooler for Christmas. 😉 )

Very good day...well when you balance it all out. Chem was a killer...like usual. Had an exam AND a quiz...I KNOW I did better on the exam. But, that isn't saying much. Then, had a study session for chem with a couple of friends...we are all tired of this prof. UGH. Got home...sat on the front porch while hubby raked leaves in the dark (the leaf truck comes by tomorrow) and did the remainder of 10 pages of extra credit for one of my bio classes..checked to see what I got on my exam last week...96 !!! WOO HOO!! ...then hemmed new scrub pants so that I would have them for shadowing on Friday...leaving tomorrow night...renewed my license plates online...emailed one prof and one tutor... dude! I am on a ROLL!! WOO HOO! But dang...tired now. and hungry.

Hope everyone had a great day. Over and out.

Dr Cox: Please bear in mind that we're short handed. There are only four doctors here.
Turk: I counted more than that.
Dr. Cox: I'm talking about legitimate doctors here, Turtle Head. Pee-Pants over there is a pathologist so he doesn't count. Johnson is a dermatologist, which is Greek for 'fake doctor,' and don't get me started on you four surgeons...
Todd: There's only two of us.
Dr Cox: You are so very useless, I counted you both... twice.

Wow yet another way for SDN to totally suck my life away 😛

Welcome to the 2006 Holiday Edition of Getting to Know Your Friends! You know the drill. Don't be a scrooge!!!

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
Does the egg nog have brandy in it? And does the hot chocolate have peppermint in it? 😀 I'd take either, although probably go for the hot chocolate first. And we found out 2 years ago that yes, you CAN put too much brandy in the nog. :barf:

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? He wraps and is quite fond of the gift bag with lots of tissue.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? white. definitely white.

4. Do you hang mistletoe? never have

5. When do you put your decorations? good question. family has put up the tree as late as 12/22, but probably no earlier than 12/18 or so. yes- live tree. other decorations go up sometime mid-Dec. at MY house, I've put the tree up earlier when I've done one, mostly b/c I'm not here the week of Xmas to do it. Not sure I'll have a tree this year b/c of the amount of effort it takes vs. the amount of time I'll have to enjoy it.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish(excluding dessert) I really dig
cranberry sauce- the jellied kind. It's just not a holiday meal without the cranberry
sauce with the ridges from the can you just popped it out of. 👍

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child. Going to the zoo every Christmas Eve with my dad. See below for details.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? So dad used to take my brother and I to the zoo every C.E., and when we came home, Santa had filled our stockings and put all of the gifts under the tree. Mom never went with us, and apparently never heard Santa come down the chimney because every year she'd been conveniently upstairs in her room talking on the phone with my aunt. I think one year we just put it together that this all seemed just a little too convenient. However, the neighbors got in on the deal for a while, and my dad had to bring their kids to the zoo with us.

Oh, that and Santa's handwriting looked EXACTLY like either of my parents'. Freaky. 🙄

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? All of them. When we were little, we had to go to grandma's down in Kentucky for lunch, then back to to the grandparents' in Ohio for dinner, so there was no time to do it except Christmas Eve. Tradition has held even though all grandparents are gone.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree? At my house, just put the lights on and toss on all the ornaments. #1 rule: No one's allowed to start drinking (heavily) until after the tree is in the stand, stable, and straight. Other than that, whatever goes wherever.

At my mom's, it's not as bad as it used to be, but my brother and dad would discuss how each of the three strands of lights needed to be wound 120 degrees apart from each other... while mom and I sat there bored. 🙄 enginerds

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? I love it. I don't even mind driving in it. Unless there are other people on the road who don't know how. That's when the road rage kicks in.

12. Can you ice skate? Barely. I haven't tried since the broken foot healed, so not sure if that would impact it.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
My Cabbage Patch Kid. 1983, and those suckers were IMPOSSIBLE to get. And I got one. 😍 Still have her, too. With the original clothes. (No, she's not on my bed. She's shoved away in a box somewhere.) I remember having opened all the gifts and I didn't get one and I was sooooo bummed and trying to act all non-chalant about it. So my parents hand me a big black garbage bag and tell me to start putting all the shredded wrapping paper in it... and lo and behold- Joan Lila was in the garbage bag!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😍 She was the only CPK I'd ever seen who had a "normal" name, and we have the same initials!

14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
Being with my family. I've missed every other holiday imaginable because of work or school, but I have never once missed Christmas Eve and Christmas.

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? Mama Penguin will kick my ass if I don't say her chocolate fudge. She makes batches upon batches of it to give away every year. It's really delightful. Although, honestly? I'm not such a chocolate freak, so my actual favorite is probably pumpkin pie. Don't tell my mom, though. 😳

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Putting up the tree with the family. We've got ornaments which are 34+ years old, many of which have stories behind them which we tell every year. Never gets old.

A close runner up is on Xmas Eve when all stockings are filled and presents under the tree, and my mom runs around the house screaming in a high-pitched voice "Santa was here! Santa was here!" It's a total hoot, and we're all embarassed for her, but we laugh and it's tradition, and what the hell.

17. What tops your tree? An angel at mom's, one of those big ribbon bows with the really long streamers at my place. It's red and silver and tres chic.

18. Which do you prefer giving or Receiving? Let's be honest here- both. Come on- who doesn't like getting cool gifts?

19. What is your favorite Christmas Song? Carol of the Bells is
absolutely one of my favorites. And I have to put out a shout-out for Do They Know It's Christmas? by Band-Aid.. and O Holy Night. Josh Groban's version rawks.

20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum? YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!! but only the peppermint ones. none of that fruit-flavored crap.

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?

I agree, depends on brandy or peppermint schnapps. Typically I go for the hot chocolate and have eggnog once or twice during the holiday season.

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?

Santa wraps. I often get presents "To Meg from Santa"

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?

White icicles and colored everything else. We even put up orange halloween lights this year!

4. Do you hang mistletoe?

Heck yeah!

5. When do you put your decorations?

Traditionally, the day after Thanksgiving. This year with our living/dining room under construction, the tree won't go up until next week.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)

Dad's beans - family recipe

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child.

Decorating the house inside and out with my family.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?

I really don't remember! I remember being about 7 or 8 and our local little radio station would have "Rudolph" sighting reports so I know I believed then. Maybe around 10 I figured it out, but I think deep down I still believe in Santa 😉

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? When was little we opened one. When I was in my teens my dad had a solo practice and was always on call every holiday, and less stuff happened on Xmas eve than day, so we started opening all gifts on Xmas eve and saved our stockings for Xmas morning.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree?

Lights first, then ornaments. My parents have all the handmade ornaments, but we have the cheap kind in whatever color fancies us that year.

I forgot, we also put the nativity scene underneath the tree.

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?

LOVE it. Snowmobiling season!

12. Can you ice skate? I can skate upright. My husband used to play hockey so he can skate.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift?

A Red Ryder BB Gun!

J/K

I remember Barbies, My Little Ponies, Cabbage Patch dolls, etc., but I think the best was looking forward to having oranges in my stockings. I loved to eat oranges on Xmas day.

14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
Family time, and the actual religious part of Christmas. It's the second most important Christian celebration (Easter is the most important).

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert?

My dad makes the fudge every year, too, but I also like peppermint bark, and I really loved piernik in Poland (sweet bread).

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?

Decorating house/tree.

Also, although it's not consistent, we usually have a different Christmas dinner every year. Lasagna, Ribs, whatever - we can always count on something "non-traditional" to eat on Xmas eve!

17. What tops your tree?

An Angel.

18. Which do you prefer giving or Receiving?

Ditto what JLW said - both. People like to make people happy at Xmas. It's ok to like getting gifts!

19. What is your favorite Christmas Song?

O Holy Night, I'll Be Home for Christmas, Adeste Fidelis, Do You Hear What I Hear?, Silent Night, Good King Wenceslas

20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum?

Yummy!

And with that, our flooring guys have arrived!

Welcome to the 2006 Holiday Edition of Getting to Know Your Friends! You know the drill. Don't be a scrooge!!!

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
Hot Chocolate

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? WRAPS!

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? white.
We have the icicles right now on the house, hopefully the gutters don't fall today! 😱

4. Do you hang mistletoe? no, but that is a good idea, but where to hang it? Oh the bedroom, definitely the bedroom. :meanie: Although wait, no husband so nevermind.

5. When do you put your decorations? After Thanksgiving 😀 Today actually!

6. What is your favorite holiday dish(excluding dessert) WHAT?!???????!!!!! Excluding the dessert? I only EAT the desserts! BAD QUESTION! Usually for the holidays we have the traditional thanksgiving and something festive for Christmas each year, different so nothing is the same for christmas. I'm not a huge thanksgiving fan but I love the italian flair my mom gives meals though. (and we are not italian!)

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child. Christmas Morning!!!

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? My friends told me in like 5th grade I think. 🙁 I wanted to be a kid forever.

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? Sometimes all of them as we were all older ... but usually just the stocking on christmas eve.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree? Lights, garland, ornaments!

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? 😍 😍 😍

12. Can you ice skate? Yes. Even can cross over and maybe even skate backwards. Been AGES since I've been but I'd love to go.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
Probably My Cabbage Patch Kid too which i proceeded to have stolen at mcdonald's and my parents have to get another one. I just love all my presents though. I don't remember alot of specific ones.

14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
Being with my family. This is the first Christmas/Christmas Eve I will not be with my parents 🙁 Hopefully I will be with my hubby at least.

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? pumpkin PIE!

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Putting up the tree, opening the stocking christmas eve, mass on christmas eve ... this year is going to be fubar b/c my in-laws aren't catholic and I am not familiar with the catholic church down there where they are and I'd rather be at home but we'll see.

17. What tops your tree? Angels!

18. Which do you prefer giving or Receiving? Let's be honest here- both. Come on- who doesn't like getting cool gifts? ( I STOLE THIS FROM JLW! SO TRUE!)

19. What is your favorite Christmas Song? Ooooh, I love them all honestly. But I like carol of the bells probably the most, for church I like Gloria, Modern is "All I want for Christmas is you", White Christmas has always been a fav ... I always hope for a white christmas, we had one once, but I'm hoping ...

20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum? YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!! but only the peppermint ones. none of that fruit-flavored crap. ( AND I AGREE WITH JLW!)

AMCAS verified today... damn I'm late... and there is a mistake! back in line for another couple of weeks.... 🙁 I think I should just throw in the towel on this year 😳

i'll probably only send out secondaries to a small fraction of my primary school list....

anyways, Hello Everybody!

Welcome to the 2006 Holiday Edition of Getting to Know Your Friends! You know the drill. Don't be a scrooge!!!

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
I love egg nog, but at the holiday time I am particularly fond of both hot chocolate and (I know it's not on the list, but I had to add) the wonderful goodness of gingerbread lattes from seattle's best coffee. They are SO much better than starbucks b/c they taste better and come with the cute little gingerbread man!!

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? Santa wraps them big time.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? I am a fan of the simple white or solid color lights (e.g. all blue or all green)

4. Do you hang mistletoe? I used it for a first kiss with the guy I've been dating now for 5 years, so yes. 😍

5. When do you put your decorations? My family puts them up a few weeks before x-mas (definitely after thanksgiving though), but I usually keep some solid color of lights up all year round.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish(excluding dessert) Oh man, jlw...canned cranberry sauce?? I make the awesomest homemade cranberry sauce (and it's so easy to make). But I'd say my fave holiday dish is my mother's homemade onion soup that we always have on Christmas Eve...we have it in these cute little crock bowls with toast and cheese melted on top. mmmmm.

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child. Strapping on my skis when it had snowed about 2 feet in my neighborhood, and skiing around my neighborhood.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? WHAT??? THERE'S NO SANTA????? 😡 😕

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? Yup, we have a tradition that everyone opens one gift on Christmas Eve.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree? Well, my parents just bought a pre-lit tree, so my dad won't have to go around cursing that he can't get the lights to go in the right spots. We keep an artificial tree b/c we celebrate Christmas in our cabin and they're not up there enough to take care of a real tree. My mom has some serious concerns about the tree not looking tacky, so we only use white lights and victorian-style ornaments. 😛 But, she does let my dad put up his 1980 wonder woman wooden ornament (in the back of the tree where no one can see it).

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? I 😍 snow!! It's so awesome.

12. Can you ice skate? YES! I love to skate. It's my sport. I have skated since I was little. I competed all throughout middle school, and then again through college.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
I would have to go with the my little pony stable. Especially since I found out recently that my dad stayed up until 4 am that Christmas putting all the little parts together so that I could play with it on Christmas morning. So cute!!

14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
I really like taking the time to hang out with everyone and getting to see both family and friends that I don't see very much when I'm up in beantown.
15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? OH man, so many awesome desserts...pumpkin pie, pecan pie, apple pie, all homemade by my fabulous baking mom! 😍

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? I really love making gingerbread houses and decorating them. I find it a great stress relief, and everyone can get involved. We're going to make a really great on this year hopefully.

17. What tops your tree? A bow made out of some fancy gold and beige ribbon (see victorian style tree decorations explanation above)

18. Which do you prefer giving or Receiving? I really like both of these...I love to pick out really great gifts for people, and I like it when someone finds or makes something that's exactly what I wanted (but I did'nt know I wanted it).

19. What is your favorite Christmas Song? Gotta agree with the penguin on this one...O Holy Night is one of my faves, and Josh Groban rocks! 😀 I also love Ave Maria (Jewel has a nice version of it on her holiday CD).

20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum? I love candy canes, both the minty ones (see my screen name?) and the fruity ones. 🙂

I feel absolutely awful. I don't know if fatigue/stress/etc. can make you feel like this. I am happy to have just about made it through this month! I was so focused on making it through it that maybe I'm just having a let-down.

*sweat literally drips down neck* :scared:

aww, ump, i'm sorry. that stinks!! you should still send in at least one application since you already spent the money on AMCAS. it's worth a shot.

Welcome to the 2006 Holiday Edition of Getting to Know Your Friends! You know the drill. Don't be a scrooge!!!

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
if it has rum in it, that will be fine.

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? santa doesn't really like to wrap. likes to use lots of gift bags. must be easier.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? colored!!!!

4. Do you hang mistletoe? i'll hold it over my head

5. When do you put your decorations? i think at home ours are getting put up this morning while it's still "warm" outside. a better question is when do you take them down....i love when people leave them up until like the 4th of july.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish(excluding dessert) sweet potatoes with marshmallows on top--that is totally not a dessert, ok?

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child. i dunno...i have a lot of favorites. looking back i think spending time with loved ones who aren't around anymore.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? i seriously used to stay up almost all night and listen for the reindeer on the roof. and i always heard them!! i was convinced because when i was five, santa set up a huge swingset in my yard overnight!! i mean my parents were sleeping--so who else could have done that? and the reindeer always ate the carrots.

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? heck yeah. but now it's really more fun just to watch my lil sister open stuff.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree? ok let me tell you--almost got into an accident the other day because some fool lost their huge christmas tree in the middle of the freeway. we have a prelit fake tree.....we put garland on and then the ornaments

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? pretty to look at but other than that......dread it.

12. Can you ice skate? bwah!! it's so hard! let's just say i can get around the rink without falling over but that's about it.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
piano

14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
being with family.

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? i'm not really picky with the holiday desserts--i love them all. oh yuck!! except fruitcake--NASTY!!

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? i guess decorating the tree. you know--we don't like to get bored. we do different things every year. like this year we are going to an indoor waterpark on christmas eve.

17. What tops your tree? usually an angel

18. Which do you prefer giving or Receiving? ummmmm ....both ;-) gawd i seriously i have the dirtiest mind

19. What is your favorite Christmas Song? rudolph the red nosed reindeer

20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum? i don't like the peppermint. but i love all those cool ones---like starburst flavored.

4. Do you hang mistletoe? I used it for a first kiss with the guy I've been dating now for 5 years, so yes. 😍

13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
I would have to go with the my little pony stable. Especially since I found out recently that my dad stayed up until 4 am that Christmas putting all the little parts together so that I could play with it on Christmas morning. So cute!!
