Good morning to all the early bird randomites out there. Probably only S&M and CC at this point. Oh look, Tee is online! 😀

i could so take this thread if i wanted to...but then again it's 7:24 in the morning and i'm not really functional yet.

Good news - Michigan path filled in the match for next year. 👍

Also, I have two interesting cases today!

1) "right back cyst." Cut into it - totally solid, not a cyst. Guy has had incision and drainage (didn't get any pus obviously) and has been on antibiotics for it. Is some type of weird sarcoma.

2) "back cyst" and "breast cyst" on the same patient (and this was the same surgeon, guy had cysts on the brain) - again, neither is a cyst. Look to be histologically identical lymphoma.

ha, its crazy how much i love SDN. i got hooked on it for interview feedback back in 2004 and never left. its just so awesome the way it grows with you! from pre-allo and mcat, to allo, to usmle, to clinical rotations, back to usmle, to the residency forums, etc.... really nice.

Yay for michigan! and yay for interesting!

Nice avatar A-man. 😉

Looks like a bad fracture to this pathologist.

beary! its the xray of the conveyor belt accident pictures i showed you. i got some really bad news though, they ended up having to amputate anyway. 🙁 🙁 🙁

even though there were really good pulses and clean breaks to the radius and ulna there was just way too much soft tissue damage in the OR to save anything. they had to take the arm after all. i just got the patients name and update a couple of days ago. i was going to visit him on my call day to see how he was doing but he was discharged home already. i felt so bad for him, in his thirties, right handed, and now with an amputation at the right elbow. sooooooo sad but just goes to show you not to go to work intoxicated and then operate heavy machinery.

for those of you that have no idea what im talking about, catch me on aim next time im on for the pics. i have to blog about this guy but im not posting the pics in the blog, if you want to see them just ask. they are really graphic but an EXCELLENT example of an open fracture. the xray in my avatar doesnt do it justice, the radius and ulna were literally sticking out and with no bony attachment to the hand, if he raised his shoulder the arm would go up and the hand would just bend backwards and dangle. insane.

I have to concur!

LOL I knew that was the same fracture.

Yeah, I'm not surprised they had to amputate - there just wasn't much left there. 🙁

Sweet! I'm looking forward to that.

I'm spending my day watching old episodes of West Wing and cleaning my room. Nothing like a productive use of time before I start med school 😉
