I have skiied Wolf Creek as well! A couple of times. Tons of snow there. Where did you stay?

In Pagosa Springs.....at the Hot Springs spa place. The mountain is beautiful. Absolutely no lines. I was so taken aback. It was my first time out west. It beats the hell out of the 1.5 hour lift lines and pure ice at killington and stuff. Just rode straight up to the lift......

Have you been to the hot springs in PS? Did you try the 113 deg pool? Wow!!! It hurt to move. We also jumped in the river (like 45 deg) and then back in the hot spring.....it was quite a sensation! I def. recommend it if you haven't.

Do you have easy access to the WC area? Have you been to Telluride? That's where I want to go to next in that area!

morning everyone,

don't forget it's already an hour later......as if I had an hour to spare.

Have a great day.

I stayed in South Fork. It has been years since I was there.

we should just stay day light savings time all the time. Forget conforming to the rest of the world

You would. I started med school at 31 and will finish my MD at 35 and even my residency by or before turning 40. And I took the really long path of getting separate MS and PhD degrees plus taking some time off to work. Now if you just don't want an MD, that's another story. 😎

Yeah, that's precisely my problem

What do you mean "straight PhD"? Are you applying for a PhD program or have you completed the program and are applying for the degree itself?

Is mudphud the MD/PhD??? I don't know why people want to do that over just a regular PhD. Any benefits?

The MD/Phd will shave off about a year or two compared to doing the two degrees separately.

I'm applying for a regular PhD. I thought about doing an MD/PhD, but doing an MD in my area of research wouldn't be all that beneficial (PM me if you want specifics). I like Public Health/Epi, and there really isn't a specialty that would map onto that. It's different if you were a radiation oncologist and wanted to do research.

Thus, I think I'm getting pulled into the world of academia. The terminal student, what can I say? And I thought I was destined for a job right after my 3yr bachelor's degree. That was 4 years ago

I watched 300. It was pretty good. I wasn't expecting a whole lot other than an action film. Plus, buff guys in speedos = plenty of eye candy....not sure if it would be very practical to go to battle wearing that though 😀

I was also greatly amused by the guys wearing togas at the movie theatre....in the freezing temps.

That's cuz he wants to be a cali boy Durden!!

Didn't ya figure that one yet?? 😛 :d

At any rate, congrats Tee. Glad your interview went well and good luck with their decisions on your app.

Durden, glad you had a great Spring break. Mine just started.

williams, sorry about the news from some place some place!!

Everyone else, hope its going well.

Durden, congrats on getting in the tourney. Rip it up!!! I think you guys will get to the Sweet 16 at a minimum.

Hell yes we made it this year. And a 6th seed too (wtf?).

Congrats on your overall #1 ranking. I think the Gators and UNC will be having a showdown for the title. That's as far as my bracket's gotten tonight.

But now it's off to see 300 and compare reviews later with you Randudes.

You doin a bracket as well? There's one in the Drs. Lounge if you want to join ours. I have Florida and Georgetown in the Finals, but I think the odds of that happening are less than 10%, lol.

Vandy is in a killer bracket. UNC, Georgetown, Texas, Marquette, and Michigan State. damn!

If Ana's team and mine, we'll play each other at Rupp!

lol, playing in your arch rival's arena. Pretty cool.

God SDN is being ******ed. It won't let me quote the posts.

That said, Williams I think the obvious answer as to why MD/PhD is the MD part!!! People who do a joint degree want to do clinical research for the most part not bench research. Or if they do bench research, they'd still like to have the MD for other reasons such as seeing patients, etc.

The real question is why MD/PhD instead of doing research with a MD alone?? I think in that case the PhD affords more research background and knowledge in a specific area.

I went through selecting all the posts I wanted to reply to using multiquote and none of them came up 😡

Anyway - I'm back. 🙂 I'm sure you were all waiting on pins and needles. I tried to go see 300 Saturday night at the new IMAX but it was sold out. Which means I haven't seen it yet. 🙁

Someone was asking about a novelization of the Battle of Thermopylae. This one has good reviews but I've never read it:
http://www.amazon.com/Gates-Fire-No...1627350?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1173713909&sr=8-3

Also, there's a novelization of another great Greek military story (the Anabasis by Xenophon):

Hey there!

Sorry I didn't return your text. Life's been a little busy. 😳 Howsoever, I really enjoyed hanging out with you last weekend. We must make it a more often occurrence. 🙂

I saw 300. I thought it was ok. Nothing great, but definitely worthy of seeing in the theater. 👍

I've read the Pressman book ["Gates of Fire"] and I loved it! Soooooo much better told than "300." 👍👍👍

I'm headed to NYC on Wednesday!

Hey! I swear you have radar for whenever anyone is talking about anything having to do with military history. And no worries 🙂 I knew you were on vacation so I wasn't disappointed (well not much 😉)

Have you read the book about the Anabasis (called "The Ten Thousand")? It would have the potential to end up being pretty good I think. A large portion of the Anabasis has more interest to someone trying to learn how to run a military than anyone reading for the story (funny side note: Up to that point we'd been reading mythology, philosophy, and sections from the new testament so when we got to Xenophon I was having to look up every other word because I hadn't used that vocab before. It sucked!)

Oh yeah - and have fun in NY 😉
