Yikes! 😱
I posted this like 2 hours ago, nobody noticed.

I called a few of my friends, got answering machines....but one e-mailed me already and said she's fine. I think there's only one person among them who works evenings AND commutes from STP to Mpls, so I'm hoping she's fine...I doubt anyone else would have been using the bridge much.

Congrats, pingouin!:hardy:

congrats penguin

i was looking pretty hard actually to find out what everyone was congratulating you for 😛

Meg - my little one had her well-check today. Her ped is concerned about her speech too. 🙁 I'm going to call the people at early intervention tomorrow to have them evaluate her formally.

I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully it's just a minor issue they can fix easily.

yay early intervention! they do such WONDERFUL work (certain Randommes included). my state's governor tried to cut all EI funding a few years ago and there was a complete uproar, even from the people who voted for him. I've never seen people band together like they did to give kids a chance to thrive. 😍

thanks again, guys

Funk- it took me a minute to figure out what was different, too! 🙄

Observation: not always one of my strong suits.
i think pbj said something about the red cross and i thought you were working for the actual red cross or something 🙄

I'm not too worried because I was the same as her and I think I turned out okay. 😉 She just doesn't talk very much for her age. I think it just means she is a thinker, but I have no problem doing the evaluation and doing what I can to get her talking more. 🙂

I think early intervention is very cool. They've been following my little one since she was born since she was a little premature.

It reminds me of that joke, where this British lord has a son who just won't talk.....finally, one day when he's 8, they are all sitting at the dinner table and all of sudden the son says, with perfect pronunciation: "The chicken tonight is disgusting, mother." Everyone's freaking out, and the lord exclaims, "By golly, why didn't you ever say anything before!?" "Well, nothing was wrong until today," responds the son...

I'm a dork.:hardy:

Good luck -

Although I haven't seen your little one "in person" - what you describe sounds like what I call a typical "speech delay" - basically a late talker. She may end up qualifying for speech based on numbers, but I'll bet money that all she needs is a "jump start" and then she'll be over the hump and talking a lot.

I see it a lot where some little ones either have all their needs met and don't talk much or really haven't learned how to string the sounds/words together for communicative purposes. Once they figure it out it's a huge "AHA!" moment.

Let me know how it goes!

YAY!

Now let's hope IL reforms their budget soon (so I can get paid and keep getting paid!)

MCAT SCHMEM-CAT. :barf:

Its 90 here. I haven't seen 90 in almost a year 😱 Weather totally different up here, which I liked it cooler. Because humidity is icky.

oxeye- hope all goes well with the little one!!!

90.. pshaw. Try 100, and 90% humidity. :laugh::laugh:. I hate summer.... grrr.

Promotions during registration are insane.. we have a new recruiter, a new secretary (coming in in 2 weeks), and about a billion freshmen wanting to get in classes that were closed weeks ago when the gunners (and returnings) registered.

HELP!!! 😱😱
I'll be glad for Tuesday.. and my week of vacation.. to get here.

I went to the hospital today to get some blood tests done....the technician was making some small talk, and asked me why I chose to move to Alberta. I mentioned that one of the attractions was the fact that AB has 2 medical schools, all biased towards IP students. So she's like, "Ohhhhh, so you are applying to medical school? What kind of doctor do you want to be !?" I'm like, "Well..." She's like, "Oh, my god, you should be a plastic surgeon! Seriously!" I'm like, ummmmm, ok.😕 But then I'm thinking, maybe she's referring to something other than income, so I ask, "Why do you think I should be a plastic surgeon? I don't have any interest in surgery, to be honest." She starts winking hysterically. I'm like, "Because they make a ton of money?" She's like, "Yes, yes, of course!"

*sigh* 🙄

I always find it ironic when people think that $ is the one and only important thing in your interest in a medical career. Seriously, if I wanted $$$, I wouldn't be sitting here in rural Alberta, suffering through the MCAT, post-bac, endless secondary essays - I would have just moved back to Russia right after my graduation last year to work for my father and would earn double or triple what a plastic surgeon makes.🙄

👎

No kidding. I wouldn't leave my current job if it were all about the $$. I could easily earn $150K myself if I worked hard and have a much higher earning potential if I hired employees (and I don't have any educational debt).

But I don't want to do this for the rest of my working life 😱

And I'm sure all you other career-switchers feel the same.

My grandfather was supposed to have his stints replaced in his kidneys today... (he has a blockage that they have been using stints to keep open b/c they couldn't get to a place to biopsy without doing major invasive surgery) and one of the ureters is closed by this blockage now... good news is they were able to get a good biopsy.. bad news is they were able to get a good biopsy (meaning this thing has grown..into the ureter).

He's a 2x cancer survivor already, and we're really afraid this may be time #3

Bladder/urethral cancer can be a sticky situation 😱 I hope it turns out ok.

Stents suck. So do Foley catheters.

yeah, and considering that it's been two different areas before (prostate, colon), it's definitely a possibility.

Can't believe i spelled "stent" wrong. brainfart. haha.

It's good stuff, but I have my personal local fave

**ahem** Oberweis!
hmmmm, is it just your local? I'm going to try to find some local ice cream to try. Me love ice cream. Especially when me so stress

*I HATE YOU MCAT*

you taunt me 😡
I would have shared!!! I promise!!!

In random news, I am still in my PJs.

I'm in PJ's but not "still". Met with the asst dean of an MD school. Wasn't told anything I didn't know. Man I wish I just didn't have such a crappy GPA and wish I had more time to study for MCAT. Speaking of which, I'm disappearing again for another few months.

Seriously, I can't keep up with anything here on SDN. I work on my marketing stuff and that's about it these days. No chit chat threads, no AIM chats (which I miss!!!), but I have a ton of folded laundry sitting on my couch!! 😀

grad - hope things work out!!! :luck:
