ok had a rescheduled appointment for Monday. Whew.

Now I can go study for an hour or so until 3:30 (next appt.)

I needed some extra $$ so I scheduled a 6:30pm assessment when I'm usually home on Thursdays by 6:15pm.

TTYGuys later!

Huh? For what?😕

Well the claim is that the founder of Facebook has stolen the idea of facebook from two people from Harvard.

They think he stole their idea so now they want to sue him. Gotta love how sad and pathetic people will act when something becomes popular. I hate to break it those who are suing the facebook founder, but the idea of internet networking agences was around long before facebook with the invention of friendster.com highfive.com and myspace.com

The idea of an all college network can't be argued either as facebook's vision has changed from its original intent and now has people from all over the world being allowed to join.

Here's an article on it. I looked it up after I saw that opinion editorial from Mushy's link.

My other fave is Whitey's ice cream from the Quad cities. Mmmmmm

All this talk of icecream has made me crave it. I'm going to go get some today from Maggie Moos. Its like Marble slab or Cold stones but wayyyyyy better the cold stones. Can't comment on Marlbe slab though cuz I've not been there as of yet though I finally found one near my house.

Ahhhh, I have to think of another back-up plan in case med doesn't pan out. Police would be great, but it's quite hard to get into, as well, so I can't really count on it alone and nothing else. But I can't think of anything else that I'd enjoy (or at least tolerate) doing for at least one full year! I know I definitely don't want to do a Master's - been mulling over it for like 6 months, and the idea still nauseates me. I'm sick to death of office work. My foreign language degree is not sufficient for being a translator/interpreter in Canada....I really don't know what else to do. As far as other healthcare fields, I don't wanna be an EMT, and most of the other professions, like lab technologist, require a specific certification that takes from one to two years to complete, so that wouldn't work for me, either. I was thinking about becoming a personal trainer, since I enjoy working out and stuff, but they are really favoring people with BS in Kinesiology or Exercise Science these days as opposed to ones with just a certification, so I might not be able to find decent employment. I enjoyed my 3 years of volunteering as a counselor, but here they require at least a bachelor's, if not a master's, in Social Work, and then you get paid $12 an hour.

Anyone have any ideas for what you can do with just a general bachelor's degree (or minimum extra education) that's not just plain office work or physical labour, like construction? I've thought about working on an oil rig, since I have some of the certifications required, but I'd have to move up North, and it costs like $2000 a month to rent a studio in Fort McMurray b/c of the influx of labourers.

Was there a mothman sighting before the bridge went down? 😱

Please tell me you guys have seen the movie....

I hated that movie. Though I admit I thought the same thing at first. 😳

Really a miracle more people weren't killed - though apparently there are still many cars in the water that rescuers can't get to.

Hope everything is ok oxeye. 😍

I'm not too worried. I think Meg is right when she said some kids who don't talk have no need to talk. She has all her needs met and is generally just a happy little kid. 🙂

The early intervention people are going to call Monday to schedule an evaluation - probably won't happen until September, though.

Career update:

I'm working my butt off but actually am pretty much enjoying what I'm doing and want to study when I come home.

I think I am going to be a hematopathologist. I have started saying it out loud to people and like how it feels. 😎

If you need your leukemia or lymphoma or myeloma diagnosed, I'm your girl!

Hopefully I won't need anything diagnosed, but if i did, i'd want you to do it beary! 😍

Last summer final ... check

MCAT? One week

Back to studying.

One day, this will be over.

In other news, no updates on pawpaw yet... tomorrow is a dye based CT and possible biopsy from the other side.. so hopefully that will bring news.

While I have no desire to wish you out of work, one can hope none of us ever needs such service because the need for such service would mean a possible diagnosis of cancer something we hope not to get.

There are people who really believe it's true and claim to see the "mothman" before tragedy like this starting back in the 60's with the topic of the movie.

Wooooooo....... freaky.

You should check into interpreting for real. In IL, early intervention interpreters get paid $50 a session and also for time translating reports. I haven't a clue how Canada works, but here it can be lucrative.

Ha ha you could drive an Ice Truck (I've been hooked on that show). You could also join the army. Or you could open up a business. Like Coldstone.

Yay!! I found a gal on craigslist who is willing to watch my girls for me when they are sick and I can't get out of class, husband can't reschedule clients, and grandparents are out of town. She sounds so nice! She's in school to become a pediatric nurse so I guess she doesn't mind sick kids.

I've been so stressed about that. So I have lots of back-up plans for when the kids can't go to daycare. And I have a feeling that is going to be pretty often until their little immune systems get used to all the germs there.

Good deal! 👍

I'm done studying for the day. 3 hours was enough for me.

Anyone else have allergy issues lately with dry eyes?
When I moved my allergies went CRAZY on me. I went to an allergist and got put on shots and all this crazy medicine. I am in HEAVEN. First time in weeks I went symptom free for like a week. No sneezing, no red/itch eye attack, I can breathe, its great. And I know what I'm allergic too!! I use patanol eye drops for my eyes 😍 I totally support them. It sucks that now my prescriptions run me $100/mn but if I feel better and control this "asthma" that I didn't know I had, it would be fantastic!

that's fantastic. That's the sign of a good mom. How did you screen her out? Did you post to her ad or she to yours? Give me the low down so I know what to do in a few years 😀

Since the weather heated up this week I have had sinus congestion and dry eyes like crazy.

It was so nice when it was in the 70's - low 80's the whole summer until NOW.

I know SERIOUSLY, what's up with that? I liked the 80's. Just got our "first electric" bill from last month too. $170. And I didn't have the air on quite a few days too! Would turn it off at night. But we do have air filters, computers, and humidifiers that run.

I think tree (or is it ragweed) is up right now too. I found out I'm allergic to grass pollen (never knew that but it was off the charts when we got here!) I was NEVEr a fan of nasal sprays but the two I'm on REALLY work. I had horrible sinus issues and things are totally turning around.

You'll have to humour me...what movie is that? 😳

yeah I think it's getting to be pollen and ragweed season.

I remember in Mobile I used to work in my lab from 5pm-3am and when I'd leave the lot would be yellow with tire streaks through it from the pollen!

I posted an ad. She used to be a nanny, works at a Kindergarten currently and starting nursing school in the fall, so has the background check, CPR-certification, all that fun stuff - and will give me documentation for all that stuff and references I can call. I'm going to meet her on Monday just to see if she seems okay in person (seemed great on the phone).

It's still kind of nerve-wracking inviting a stranger into my home to care for my kids and this would only be every now and then. But I think I'm doing as much as I can to make sure she's safe and trustworthy.

awesome!! i'd definitely go to see you for any of that stuff. 😛

ps: my md/phd training officially starts tomorrow! 😱

Wow....I just bought my first-ever paper shredder....*destroys every piece of paper in the house, trembling with pleasure*

The ad I posted on craigslist ended up being kind of controversial. 🙄 Someone posted back and said she just couldn't understand why you would need someone else to care for your sick children because employers should always give you time off for that. And that it is a parent's job to take care of their kids when they are sick.

Lots of people posted back to that person, though in defense of my search. I don't have an employer, I have professors 🙂scared🙂 and my husband has a business to run. 🙁

 i love my paper shredder. my bf had a laundry basket full of crap he needed to shred. it was so much fun to get rid of it all! 😀

dude, that's harsh. don't pay attention to obnoxious people like that.

I'm not applying my statement to anything in particular, but I've found on the net people tend to be much more critical than they would be in person, and have no shame in posting about it.

For example, religion in the Lounge. If you met someone in person and didn't share their beliefs, chances are you'd still be civil towards them. Most of us know better about the Lounge. And it's the same in other online forums that people think their opinions are the law and no one has other circumstances outside their own.

BTW oxeye - my mom endured some of that when she went back to med school and I was a pre-teen. Most in the community were supportive but some were ballsy enough to call her a bad mother in public (like Walmart or the gas station). Mostly older women who I secretly think were jealous. Now she sees 1/5 of the town for their healthcare needs and OMG, we are a well-adjusted family, go figure.
