I didn't see a new one started so I took the initiative....
BPHey, I'm old. I can't remember earlier than dinner.
So I sent a message on Facebook to this friend of mine who I met in the orgo labs - she lives in another province. She had applied to med once 2 years ago, but got rejected (pre- and post-interview). She just wrote her MCAT in June and got what's a golden score in Canada (10 or higher in each section and above P in WS). She was thinking of taking Orgo II with me, so I asked whether she was gonna do it and also asked about how things are going in regards to med....and she's like, "Hey, guess what, I'm not applying to med anymore! I absolutely love research and realized that I really want to do a PhD instead! I'm so excited to start next month, I know it's the right decision!"
It was so random! Just a month ago I was discussing apps with her, and now she's not even applying - and with her grades, MCAT scores, and MSc, I'm 100% sure she would have gotten accepted somewhere in Canada - she would already be getting 2 automatic interviews. But you know she has to be completely serious about this PhD thing if she's willing to pass up on a very good chance of getting into medicine...
I also feel envious in a way - although I can certainly relate to the giddy feeling that comes with finding out what you truly want to do, I envy her because the career she has chosen is nowhere near as competitive, expensive, and uncertain as medicine. She's going to have flexible hours, will be paid to go to school, and given her field, shouldn't have too much of a hard time finding employment - and it took her less than a month to arrange everything she needed to get going - she didn't even have the PhD in mind when she started her MSc, compared to how med applicants have to plan years ahead to have a chance at getting admitted. Don't you ever wish you were interested in something that didn't demand as much from you as med?
That's ironic, because one of the things she said to me is that her "crew" is one of the best aspects of her MSc experience, and it seemed like she worked with other people quite a bit.If you like research, can work independently and doing mind going it alone (i.e. you're often the only one working on a certain project, and are therefore in charge by yourself) then you'd definitely be at home in grad school. I've been sort of envious of med students because you take the same courses together, take the same tests together and can completely relate to what everyone's going through. With grad school, you're on your own.

Yeah, it rained here yesterday, too, which was fine, but it was also freaking freezing - and the same today. First, I couldn't fall asleep for like 2 hours because it was so cold, and then I was up at 6.🙄 Well, I guess it means I can go to bed early and get some sleep tonight, since I gotta be up at 3 AM tomorrow.Rain today.. yuck. I didn't sleep well last night and I'm kinda grumpy... and for a long day, that sucks. 🙁
Hope everyone has a good day. I'm swimming to work... lol

i know that feeling all too wellbedtime here too.. been home long enough for a showr and to pry my contacts out of my dry eyes.. I hate that feeling!! much shorter day tomorrow and it shall be appreciated!
I may eventually break down and get it myself, but for now, contacts usually don't bother me. I think the only reason they were dry (my eyes usually aren't) was because they'd been in for 18+ hours.
