Thanks, Funky.

Went ahead and pushed my brain for about five more minutes to crank out a one page paper on yesterday's Genomics of Lymphedema lecture by our visiting lecturer. It was amazing and I learned a ton about lymphedema... as far as the paper, eh, it's a paper, but it's extra credit for physics and micro... 👍

I'm headed to bed. And so glad I can sleep in tomorrow.

OK, I got a response from the Dean of Admissions at Calgary, she said she has to discuss this with the adcom before she can make a decision.

On the other hand, we had at least 2 more people post on the Canadian forums saying they had the same problem...I urged them all to e-mail the admissions office, so they have an ample record of complaints.

The sad thing is that there might be TONS more applicants like this who won't even know they missed this section, because they don't go on the forums or talk to many other fellow applicants in the same manner.

Anyway, the part that sucked was that the dean didn't give me a timeframe...so I don't know WHEN the decision will be made and HOW. I guess I will wait till Friday and then call the admissions office to check.

my upstairs neighbors are soooo loud. for the last three days they've woken me up at sixfifteen or so. I'm not oing to complain to the office tho, at least its a safeguard for me to not oversleep when I have an eightoclock.

today I don't have an eight o clock. grrr. they finally left, so back to sleep it is.

I hate having to leave my house to come to physics on nasty days. If it was a class I enjoyed, then maybe, but physics sucks... and it's nasty/rainy/thundery/potentially tornado-y.

Only 6 more hours of lecture... three today, three Monday... and a final!
Then it's on to 10 more weeks of torture in phys II.

lol. I'm bored and sleepy in phys listenin to the rain. definitely wanting to go home.

Yeah, rainy weather has a similar effect on me as well. I am at home right now, but I have get off my butt and get to school for a patient simulator thing in about an hour. Then at about 8pm, I'm going to the anatomy lab. No rest here...

we took a field trip to a lecture on biomedical material engineering and got ten bonus points on the final!! so my not-taking- the final has me up to an 80. hahaha. but I'm gonna at least give it a shot cause its gonna be take home monday 🙂

Apparently some jackass tipped over a LIQUID OXYGEN TRUCK right in front of Keck and they had to evacuate the parking structure.

Holy crap! That is RIDICULOUS. Glad they put a lot of effort into finding their drivers. 🙄

Crazy-busy day at work for me. (I'm still there!) I think I need a new title . . . I work at the "control center" for a grant program for diabetes initiatives. The grant ended last year and we've been working on dissemination this year. I'm currently conducting phone interviews with all of our 14 grantee site directors to discuss how they've been sustaining their programs now that the grant's over, and I've written a bunch of things that we now circulate . . . the biggest of which was the proceedings from our closing conference . . . oh and I'm now putting together a poster for a national conference that my supervisors are too busy to deal with. And my title is . . . wait for it . . . SECRETARY! (clearly we're SO not PC here!) Of course, the benefit is that I get taken to lunch on "Administrative Professionals' Day" 🙄

(Thanks for letting me vent . . . There, I feel betta now - an oldie but a goodie for all the non-trads out there . . . I don't think the whippersnappers are old enough to remember this stuff 🙂)

The thunder-y nasty weather continues. I've somewhat cleaned house, about to settle to the couch for a while. Made homemade meatballs to go with my store-bought spaghetti sauce and angel hair pasta... yum! My first try at turkey meatballs. 👍

 That reminds me of: "Talk amongst yourselves." "I'm feeling verklempt."

Wow. No tornadoes here, but lots and lots of rain. It's been raining on and off all day.

We didn't lose power, but most of the town did. Going to have to get up a bit early to check traffic and such and be sure I can actually GET to school (lots of downed trees and power lines). Still under flood watches and tornado watch for about 3 more hours, but I'm really tired so I'm giving up and going to bed!

Night guys!! 😴😴

We had a tornado watch here . . . I never went back to the news to see if it turned into a warning . . . oops!

Glad to hear you still have power. In our overly electrical lives, losing power is ridiculously annoying. Hope your friends and family are all safe, gradu8!

Still stressing about Calgary! Gonna call Friday.

For now, I went and made up a dummy application account (to my surprise, you can still create an account even though the submission deadline has passed) and checked whether the application form had instructions or a help section. I never referred to one, but of course if they had instructions which explicitly covered that section with 5 activities and how to get to it, I've got a weak case, since it'd be my fault I didn't read it.

Anyway, they didn't have ANY instructions for the app. The "help" button just took you to the page where they described their admissions process and selection criteria, but there wasn't a single thing on there about how to fill out and submit the app. Sooo, at least I have that issue to raise if the answer from the Dean is not positive.

About to hop in the shower and type up the micro unknown. It is now known! E. Coli, you have been found out!
Oh, come on, E. Coli!? Couldn't they have come up with something more exciting? I had Bacillus cereus and Klebsiella spp. for my unknowns...I thrive on danger, apparently.:scared:

I wanted something difficult, even asked for it! But the culture slants were just numbered so he couldn't remember which ones were "difficult" without looking at his sheets, which weren't in the lab at the time of which we chose cultures.

All is well here today. I agree that lost power is nothing more than an annoyance. The world is so quiet when there's no power.. even things we don't realize make noise do. It's fairly creepy.

Headed to school but hopefully it'll be a short day. I have a friend coming in from N.O. tonight (she's interning at Children's) and we're going to eat and go wedding-invitation-shopping with her fiance. Weather-wise we're supposed to have almost a repeat performance from last night, hopefully not quite as bad. Sigh. It's definitely October.

excellent choice. (that was my major in college, and it's also my intended PhD field)

I just got the best news ever...

For micro, we have the option of doing a short research project of our choosing and reporting on it... and it counting for a dropped test grade.

However, I have great test grades. I asked if I could "drop" the final (as in, just not take it). He said sure.

My tri break just extended by five days. I'm sooo excited. So the project and my finals are next Tues and Wed, then i'm done... for a week and a half!

And the chickpea is neither a chick nor a pea. Discuss. 🙂

Ugh . . . worst headache ever. And I left my beloved E (Excedrin) at home. 👎

And what's the deal with decaf. how do they get the caffeine out of there and then where does it go?
