Revisionist history.

Per my father, who was a native Kentuckian, the Civil War should have been more appropriately termed "The War of Northern Aggression".

I tend to sit in the middle. Socially the North won, Politically the south ultimately won. Economically I haven't made my mind up yet.

I think at that time the economic battle went to the north. Most factories in the north flourished while the south battled from depression. It's a different story now of course.

Edit: Plus, northern blockades really stopped a lot of trade between the south and other countries

fighting an awfully sore throat and low grade temp. wish I felt better since my friend is in town from new orleans! we ended up comin in and watching movies.

Sorry to hear about that. I hope you feel better, gradu8.

And, I'm sure your friend is glad to see you, no matter what. Between my good friends and I, the important thing isn't what we end up doing, it's that we take the time to be really present with each other while we are together. 🙂

Lawlz, it's just my bitter jealousy!

 I feel that way about the "gunners" in my class who go out in the evening, have a great time, and still end up easily acing the material, while I go home, have absolutely no life, and study it for hours and hours, to end up seemingly mastering the material less well than they. Normally I wouldn't mind it so much, but gunners like to rub it in your face.

Has this application season made anyone else bitter?

To the point that you're happy for your fellow SDNers getting accepted but secretly want to slap them because you haven't gotten in yet? 🙁

Oh HELZ yes. I know that technically I'm not allowed to be bitter because I'm applying so dang late, but gosh darn it . . . I want in too!! And all these acceptances are just making me realize how long it's going to be before I could even potentially THINK of having such news (like probably not until next year at this time). *sigh* At least you can compare yourself to me and know it could be a lot worse! (perhaps not comforting, but it's a thought!) 😛

I've been informed here in the 'Lou that it's also referred to as "The Recent Unpleasantness" 🙄

Oh, and that bird gettin' down to Backstreet Boys was HILARIOUS! It made my dog go a little nuts (she's obsessed with birds), but it was worth it!

I'm glad someone else liked it as much as I did! Maybe it's just we old farts who can appreciate old sk00l Backstreet Boys!

I've not heard that term used around here, but I'm originally from The North- my hometown has the Underground Railroad Museum. Which reminds me.. I haven't been there yet. I should go when I'm home. Note to self...

Isn't that the truth! I went to Wisconsin to visit a close friend a few years ago, and we wound up spending 4 hours solid watching a Tivo marathon of Without a Trace. BEST DAY EVER.

bitter is just the tip of the iceberg of emotions 😳

Definitely. We had a blast doing almost nothing. Headed to school to get my agar plates for the last experiment. May end up culturing my throat. LOL.

Dragging myself out of bed. Out to where people are. People, amazing thought. I'm tired of feeling like i've been run over by a mack truck.

Just going to get something to eat and hunt down some damn Airborne Gummi Lozenges... those are the best, and unfortunately, VERY hard to find in my town!!

bed?!?!
good lord!
I wish I stayed in today

Wow, today's been a good day so far!!!

1) Got an e-mail from U of Calgary - they went ahead and reactivated applications for those who missed that stupid section. We have until Thursday to fill it out. I'm thrilled! Went and bought a thank you card to send to the Dean.

2) On the way back from buying the card, I stopped by the Salvation Army store after deliberating whether it was worth my time (I never find anything nice there). OMG, I found this AWESOME vintage coat! It's my size, great fit, and it has a HUGE real fur collar! The lady at the counter said it's probably wolf fur, and I think she's likely right. It was just $9.99 and there is NOTHING wrong with it at all except for the top button is missing - but it's hidden under the collar, so even if I couldn't find an exact match at the sewing store, it's not a big deal. STOKED! I'd take a pic, but my camera is dead and I can't find the charger, lol.

😀
thanks!
btw, i know i sound whiny but i'm really not 😳

this process is so hard...i can't even describe the rollercoaster of emotions. just do everything you can to improve your chances and do not give up no matter what happens this year. i mean i had to apply 3 times and get a masters....but i eventually made it. and it definitely was all worth it

That's awesome, Jochi. I'm so glad that worked out! 👍 🙂

Okie dokie. Time to lock myself into my room so that I can increase my chances of passing my test beyond zero, which is probably where I'm at right now. If y'all see me on here, tell me to get my butt back to studying. Ciao. 🙂

logans was great. they have a new nutter butter dessert that is AMAZING. everypne should try it! 🙂
brought a pint of cold stone home for the sore throat this weekend 👍

Mmmmm, Logan's. Sadly enough it's one of the things I miss most about Nashville.

Now where's HOHO? It's time we set up a video-conference for my microanatomy exam on Monday. I'll be generous and do the multiple choice portion while she identifies all my unknown slides 😎

 I needed this encouragement

The next four hours i have alone... my dear friends are working.

Come on, meg, start the labs (only two left in chemistry, EVER). Edit the papers. And order yourself the biggest pizza they make.

OK, I'm encouraging myself over SDN. Odd.

I was just IMing with her this morning, and she promised to post on here more. I say you hold her to that. 😀

I'm off to work the overnight at the ER. Booooooooooooooooo

Got one of the labs done, then decided to call RealNetworks to cancel my SuperPass (got it ages ago for Big Brother, i'm tired of them taking the $$ out of my acct). You have to call to deactivate which pisses me off to begin with... then I talk to someone in lord knows what country speaking lord knows what language. I got off the phone so confused and they hadn't even canceled it.

Thankfully, the man sent me an email to confirm the 'changes' (or lack of) to my acct, and it say u could reply to that if you wanted to cancel. Hope it worked. Grrrrrrrrr.

Printed papers and to the couch to edit shortly!

thanks for the words of wisdom nikki 🙂

why does everyone here have like 1000+ posts? Only on this forum...

I now have a new goal before med-school. Surpass 1000 posts on SDN. A new way to waste time.

I'm wasting soo much time tonight....

I need to edit those papers, but I dont wanna. Did redeem last week's embarrassing bio quiz with a 100 on this weeks (which puts my avg back to like a 98).

I'm enjoying being lazy, but i'll be ticked if i have to spend all day tomorrow doing hwk.... so here goes.

i still cant believe i have over 3k posts, i need to find myself another hobby 😳

I really hope to hear from UMSOM tomorrow... 🙂

have to go to the dollar tree this afternon and gather the stuff for my last lab experiment.. don't wanna get out, but its gonna start raining tomorrow

Finished my last chem lab/home lab ever. Still have to write up the reports. Just finished my grad paper, editing the physics one, then probably starting on those last two chem reports.

Can't believe this trimester is over on wednesday... Wow. Time flies when you [are/arent] having fun.

OK, this is the second time in the last week I see two giant dogs running around the neighborhood without a leash...and no owner anywhere!!! One of them just took a **** in my yard, too. I freaking hate dogs and their idiot owners who let them run loose!

An annoyed neighbour has the right to contact the City Animal Shelter, who may trap and impound your pet, if necessary. Bailout from the Animal Shelter will mean a financial payout from you, the owner.

Ohhhh, now I know what I'm doing next time.:meanie: :meanie: :meanie: Muahaha!

That, and having the running amok near a road (esp. since they're big dogs) isn't a good thing either
