i see some dog owners on here... so i have a question... our puppy is like a year old and she doesn't eat anything.. sure she eats treats but like she won't touch her food and we don't know what to do... we used to be able to get her to eat it if we put a treat at the bottom... shed eat it to get to it.. but now she doesnt even do that... she only eats properly like once every two days .. in between she'll take a few bites but thats it. we've tried a few types of food and she's not sick... she's not getting too skinny.... why doesnt she eat??? any ideas?

Mix dry dog food with wet. She WILL eat. They love the wet food. Taper off the wet after a while and don't give her treats for a while. She is likely counting on the treats...when she is hungry enough she will eat.

Good luck. :luck:

this may be a stupid idea, but maybe try moving her food bowls to a completely different area and perhaps get her new food bowls. If your dog was ever sick from her food it could be learned taste aversion. Can be connected to the environment or specific food.

I live it day to day and everything confuses me about the way the church works!

.......

It's a difficult thing to explain really. I don't mean to be so ambigous. The church is not an easy thing to understand nor explain.

I'm sorry for the treatment your husband's congregation is giving you. That is one con of organized religion - relying on PEOPLE, who are always fallible. People in a large group can be as stupid as sheep (maybe that's why Jesus always referred to us as sheep LOL! - J/K). My very very good friend has had some similar experiences in a Pentecostal church she grew up in. Politics, jealousy and greed rear their ugly heads everywhere (how Satan gets a stronghold on even the "best Christians").

Don't get me wrong though - a church that's a great fit is worth it's weight in gold. How wonderful to be able to come together with so many people for the right purpose! That is such a miracle, but more and more rare. Maybe I live in the wrong area or hear too many negative stories, but it sickens me today that there are so many people who claim to be such "servants of the Lord" but follow the beckoning of evil (good intentions and more).

It's hard, but please don't let their attitudes get you so down. Reflect on the Lord and your favorite passages to give you strength. Lean on your husband and other friends/family. You want to be around those that will build you up strong, so others won't be able to tear you down, even when they try hard.

And don't forget to pray for the congregation that they see what has become of their attitudes.

I will also pray for you and your husband for blessings to make it through (even though I know you will - hey, you're a serious pre-med, right! That's peanuts compared to spitefulness!)

Please try to get some well-deserved rest tonight and know that your "Random non-MCAT and only peripherally related to the MCAT thread" family is there for you!

See you tomorrow TypeA!!!!!!! 🙂

I clicked on it, and have one question for you......

How come you are not applying to more then just the 2 MSTP programs you chose to apply to?? Why not at least 4 or 5?? Just curious.

I am applying to more for sure....just waiting to get my MCAT score to see which ones.

I gave in and clicked it. Saw you're applying for MSTP. Cool. I'm graduating from an MSTP in 18 days. Let me know if I can help at all.

Muahahaha :meanie:

Thanks beary 😍

Congrats! 😎

We're getting really funny emails from the university about the tornadoes. Things like "Statement on tornadoes." We're opposed to tornadoes. All of us. Working together, we will prevail. We cannot let the tornadoes win. (I'm being a little facetious, but that's the point).

I get you.

So far it looks like Iowa 0, Tornadoes 3.

My score might be off though since I'm tired 😉

Maybe they will appoint a Tornado Task Force or Interest Group to come up with ideas on how to understand the Tornadoes. What kind of experiences formed them, and why is their behavior so destructive? If only we knew their motivation for choosing the path they take in life......

(I'm using my dry humor tonight!)

Haha! Awesome! I am sure a Tornado Task Force is in the works.

There must be something that happens to you when you become a bigwig administrator that you have to send out these inane emails all the time. We have gotten multiple of these. Some have contained useful information (what students who lost their houses should do about academic stuff), but mostly just "we're together against the tornadoes! woot! go Hawkeyes!"

What a nice note. That was what I wanted to say but didn't have the words. 👍

agreed

also once she knows the treats are not comming she will eat the wet. what you should also do is time the food
like offer it to her - is she snubs it put it away for a hr
then offer it again

once she gets used to eating it you can leave it out but the first few times show her thats its not there as backup for her hunger but actually what she is expected to consume in a set time period.

if she refuses to eat for a few hrs but asks for a treat put the food back out. if she continues begging leave her alone with her food and do something quietly :ie reading or something that shows you are not giving her attention for begging (dogs are actually after the attention as much as they are after the treat - they know a treat gets loads of attention you will bring it out and hand feed it vs food eating requires automaticity)

also when shes begging dont tempt her by eating near her. just put the food down and open a book. if she bothers you for food ignore her - if she presists show her the bowl.

Eventually she will learn to eat her dog food and in the long run it will serve her well. Also i agree 100%
start with wet mixed to stimulate her
better yet if you can put some chicken juice and just mist her dry food lightly with that. Avoid giving broths from stores bc they are so high in fat or sodium. A good quality dry food high in crude protien and calcium is all she really needs. Treats are great for her but make her earn them. Like give one maybe after she eats her food or does a trick THATS ASKED OF HER. my dog got cleaver with my sister and did spontanious UNASKED for tricks because it made her give him treats ggrrrr

also remember treats and wet food make for bad plaque
brush your dogs teeth weekly - you can buy the kit at petco/petsmart but i have used
leamon juice and a pinch of salt with a regular new humans toothbrush with much success for the better part of the past 12 years. just telling you this now because she will enjoy getting it done as a puppy - if you start her when shes older she wont like the feeling of having her teeth brushed.
i do this weekly and my dog likes the attention and leamon juice - he actually goes a growling/grin thing to let me do it 🙂

My parents have a miniature dachshund who I just adore. I was trying to find a picture of her to show but I couldn't find one. 😕

I am posting pictures of the tornado on my blog and it is taking FOREVER. I don't know why.
i was going to get a chihuahua for my birthday a few weeks ago
but when i went to get it i was pissed at the lady and refused to buy it
she seemed like a total bstsfhs and she treated me like i was a two bit airhead - i dont get insulted easily but she really ticked me off so bad plus i was feeling my old man (dog) would be mad that i am cheating on him with a new puppy who would be tiny enough to stay with me all week when he hasto live at my parents house.
med school doesnt keep u that busy
well the octupus does but like i am usually home a LOT more than in college
and i dont stduy till the last minuite so i could totally take on a second pooch <3

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

A most heartfelt "Thank you " to all of y'all for all the love. 😍

You'll never know.

DEFINITELY brush! Wet food is horrible for the teeth. Stay on it only as long as absolutely necessary.

Another tip...if your dog ever must go under for a procedure of any type...get his/her teeth cleaned at the same time.

plus you are probably stressed out from the mcat--it's ok--you'll get that piggy next time
It might sound bizarre but I'm actually in this kind of Zen state right now. I'm not too worried. I know that even my off days are good enough to probably get me in somewhere. So mainly I'm doing it to prove it to myself which makes me very calm for some reason. I dunno, maybe I'm just wierd.

Ugh.

I feel like crap today.

I'm sorry for getting detailed and gross, but I'm constipated.

Anyone out there have any tips for not being that way?

I already eat a high fiber diet and try to drink 80+ oz. of water a day. My husband thinks it's funny, but I hate that bloated, icky feeling. Plus, it's not associated with my monthly cycle at all!

😡 🙁 👎

Caffeine is a stimulant. You could try a coke or two.

Prune juice does it for me...but there was only one time that I had to resort to that. Diet Coke is a killer. I am so regular you can set your watch by my colon.

You aren't on South Beach or any of those nutty high protein diets are you? I have a friend who hasn't gone in a month...she had an MRI yesterday. Of course, she is so dense in the head that she can't see what that stupid diet is doing to her...um hello!! I wanted to scream at her.. YOU HAVEN'T CR4PP3D IN A MONTH, you have a BLADDER INFECTION and a YEAST INFECTION. WTF!! Wake up before your body shuts down!

This thread should come with a warning....I happened to be eating while I was reading it. :meanie: In keeping with the general scatalogical themes, I am happy to report that my BMs have been peachy, and nothing I did today made me want to puke. I did, however, have a sneezing fit while cleaning out my closet due to the dust.

megboo, I agree that you should try some caffeine. I think that flax seeds are good as well. Next time you go grocery shopping, look for a cereal called "Uncle Sam's." It might be in the crunchy granola section. But anyway, it's flax, and if that stuff doesn't get you going, nothing will. 😛

Sorry you don't feel well. I have never been constipated in my entire life! Isn't that weird? (I tend to go the other way 🙄 ) I don't even know what it feels like.

LOL - no South Beach/Atkins for me. I love carbs!

Seriously, though I eat prunes on a regular basis - the sunsweet cherry flavored taste really good!

I'll check out the flax seeds - I typically eat a minimum of 25 grams of fiber a day so I don't know why my body is being mean to me.

I bought some coffee today at the store - a yummy breakfast blend that's really dark. Hopefully I'll get kick-started before long. I also bought some herbal tea for digestive aid as a last resort!

Suri Cruise, huh. I hope she's home-schooled because she's going to get picked on.

But..think about the fruitcakes that will be homeschooling her! Not to mention the stuff they'll be teaching her. 🙄
