Good news though. Tomorrow I'm a mod 🙂 :meanie:

I'll be applying to UMich's MSTP program. I'd love to go there! A top choice indeed 🙂

Woot! I hope to get to know some of the MSTP students. Apply to Iowa too. 😀 (I'm serious, I think it is a very good program - PM me if you want more info).

hey... we're nearing the 10K mark!

does that mean there will be a part deux?!?!

and where the heck is my dinner!??!

How about subforums for each type of study method, e.g. EK, Kaplan, etc. so people taking those can confer with each other (I think OPM does that- if SDN does already too, sorry.)

It might be fun to also post an "MCAT topic of the day" type forum where people can discuss problems relating to that topic or post MCAT-type questions related to that topic for practice.
I like your second idea, but not the first....unlike OPM, SDN is not self-policing. And since I am the self who would have to police all of those threads, and I don't have any experience with TPR or EK, I'm going to have to ixney that idea. The other problem is that students tend to want to post actual questions. I don't technically think we are supposed to post test prep questions, and I certainly don't want to encourage people to post MORE of them. As it is, I never allow any AAMC questions to be posted, not even from the practice exams. So far I haven't gotten a nasty PM from Kaplan or TPR complaining about my allowing students to post a few of their proprietary questions, but they might decide to do something about it if people just start posting tons of them....

I like the topic of the day idea, but I think it is more reasonable to do a topic of the week, and to do it in the main MCAT forum. Maybe they can be motivational/philosophical/encouragement threads as opposed to just straight Q and A. What do you think of that?

I think a weekly topic would be a good idea! And dont' forget a place for griping and venting... but I guess that's what this could be used for!

Hey Beary,

Did it ever work out with that house you were trying to get??? Or did you end up having to find somewhere else????

Hi Guju,

It never did work out with the first house I bought. We still need to go beat up that guy.

My folks were really nice and went up there and got me a 2nd floor condo in the same area. So I still haven't seen it but it looks nice, and I trust my folks. 🙂 I don't think the interior is quite as nice as the first one, but it is on the 2nd floor which I think is a plus (first one was on first floor). Oh and the second one is $15k cheaper. 👍

Uggh, as if there weren't already a zillion threads for that. 🙄 No, I want my sponsored threads to be MOTIVATIONAL, not to sap people's will to live....

would you think i'm weird if i had that on a bag?

dna1.jpg

or wore these earrings?

Yes and yes. And I'm about a big of a dork as you can get. 😛

Edit: Upon reading the rest of the thread, I realize that some of you are even bigger dorks than I am. 😛

I would totally use a bag with the cell cycle on it and wear those earrings (if I hadn't let my ear holes close up years ago - it would be painful to try to get an earring through them now).

But I'm a complete nerd. I have (and wear) a t-shirt that says "Statistics means never having to say you are certain." And another with a picture of lots of data points with a least-squares approximation for a linear regression with the caption "All this data and statisticians still miss every point." 😀

I have a great chemistry shirt that lists the chemical "ingredients" of the human body. I tie-dyed it purple, and it's my absolute favorite. I have another one that says "heavy metal," and it has a bunch of transition metals on it. 😀

That's awesome. 🙂 I would totally wear either of those!

You made them? Will you make some for me? I'll pay you!!!

I didn't make those... I wish the ones I made looked like that! I have kinked dna 😳

let me find the link... people think i'm nuts, but I like to think of exercising my dexterity... big things happen when you can work small

I have a "periodic table of the vegetables" in my kitchen. It's cute.

I think I might make some more after finals.

You'll never catch Mush; I don't think any of us will. Does she hold the posting record for SDN???

Thanks guys! 😀 I like encouragement and good news to offset bad news.

As for the earrings, I really awnt them. I'll pay ya lili! And I COMPLETELY forgot it was cinco de mayo.

As for posting record, its actually unoffical since I used to lurk for a LONGER time then when I posted. But I didn't start posting "full-time" until Jul 2004. But yes, I think I would probably win hands down 😳

And yes, Hank's record.

Man, I really want that first one. It sounds awesome!

I already have a shirt that has a caffeine molecule and one that has a capsacian molecule. My Aunt gave me one for Christmas that says "What part of the quantum theory don't you understand" I love the looks I get with that one.

Have any of you ever seen the shirt that says, "If you can read this, you're over-educated" in Latin? I really want that shirt in Ancient Greek. Serious SDN 😍 to whomever can find it for me. 😍

My favorite shirt of all time is from randomshirts.com -

these are fun to make too... but who has bath tubs nowadays? i was thinking of trying to make a tablet one... that would you put on your shower floor and it would just release whatever essential oils locked within. sudacare makes something similar, i'm contemplating getting one and figuring stuff out

gah! had i had activities like this when i was younger, i would have really liked science!

I have a bath tub! I use it several times a week too. It's an excuse to go upstairs and leave the kids with their dad for half an hour or so.

Crap - they only have XXL left. So sad! Thanks for the link though.
Heh, that's probably why they're on sale. 🙄 Ok, so my only other suggestion is to go to an ACS meeting. That's where I bought mine. That, or write to them and ask when they plan to get more in. They have some other great ones too. I have the chocolate one; it's really cute.

Ok, kids, time for me to get going soon. It's already after ten. 😱

I am fat and just got my graduation gown and it is like XXXXXXXXL. Seriously I am swimming in it. Normally I don't swim in anything. 🙄
I will probably go straight to hell for this, but since I'm almost certainly damned anyway, I will just go ahead and admit that I laughed out loud at this. 😳 beary, everyone looks fat in these stupid things. Seriously.

I got my hair cut quite a bit shorter tonight and that made many more gray hairs become visible. 😱 I bet I am all gray by the time I finish residency. (It runs in my family. My brother is two years younger than me and his beard is all gray).
