i wish they would have had the chicken pox vaccine when i was little--i seriously could have lived without ever experiencing that. Have you guys heard about those "parties" that parents take their children to so they can intentionally get chicken pox? it made me sick to my stomach when i heard about that.

I'm trying not to let that petty stuff I was reading last night lower my opinion of nurses; I know the majority of them are absolutely amazing and terrific at their jobs!

What stuff were you reading? I went to allnurses.com briefly and didn't really find much. Was it a specific forum?

I had to drink salt water yesterday for my physio lab. We did urinalysis of our OWN urine. Ewww

In micro lab in med school we all had to stick a swab up our butt and then analyze the bacteria in there. I'm not kidding. 😱

That's so mean. Kids are pretty routinely vaccinated for varicella now so hopefully soon chicken pox is a thing of the past.

hey guys. i got #23 in the class lottery of 175 or so. on the surface that looks great but the thing is that they flip the order for 4th year so i'm gonna be one of the last people to pick electives and stuff next year. 🙁

it wasnt really an advantage for me to have an early pick this year since I ended up with my 9th choice of a schedule even though i was #23 in the draft. 😱

here's my official 3rd year schedule:

6/19/06 OB/Gyn
7/31/06 Peds
9/11/06 FMG
10/23/06 Psych
12/4/06 Medicine
2/19/07 Surgery
4/19/07 Neuro
5/14/07 GPC

Starts with OB, I'm not scared... bring on the placentas.

Seriously though, its not a bad schedule its just that I dont finish surgery until April. In my top 8 schedules that i wasnt able to get, i would have finished surgery and medicine by december. Thats important just because i'm really really REALLY interested in Emergency Medicine and internal medicine and surg are pre-reqs for it. Finishing surg in april just limits my flexibility in adding and completing EM electives for my residency apps just a few months later.

what a crap shoot. it looks good.......at least you don't have surgery and medicine at the very end. So these EM electives that you are talking about--do you do those all during your fourth year? wow--ob/gyn first....what a brave brave man. What are the ones that you are most/least looking forward to?

congrats A!

At least you get the icky stuff done first 😉

yeah, thanks mush. i was reading in the clinical rotations forum that the advantage of taking OB 1st is that after you come out of it, you have such low expectations of 3rd year that all the other rotations seem to be getting better and better.

seriously, it is a major crap shoot nik. damn microsoft excel random number generator making me number 23!

i'm just crossing my fingers that i'll be able to get EM in the right place in my 4th year schedule. either that or beg for overrides, lots and lots of begging. i could move EM into my 3rd year schedule in place of neuro but then that might complicate things later because it would mean I wouldnt be able to complete my core before 4th year... ie, no externships until its done. blah, so I dont know... all this planning for stuff over a year in advance is giving me a headache.

Most looking forward to ---> IM and Surg (yeah, i'm psycho)

Least looking forward to ---> Neuro

Its complicated just because I dont know yet what i want to be for sure! My top 3 right now are: #1 and #2 EM/Surgery (tie) and #3 IM with a cardiology fellowship. I'm a mess, its all going to get determined by how I like the IM and Surg rotations and how I end up doing on step 1.

i always knew i didn't like that excel. so much uncertainty......how stressful. These are huge decisions you have to make but you have to know that everything is going to work out great for you.

so do you do all of these rotations at the same hospital?

all of those, yes. thats my core, its all done at one hospital pretty much. FMG = family medicine/geriatrics so a part of that rotation will take place at the VA hospital instead of my main hospital. GPC = general primary care, so that one wont take place at a hospital at all - I'll just be assigned to a community doc for a month and see patients with him/her at their practice every day. the real variety will come in 4th year when i start picking electives and externships.

How awesome A! 😀 But, if you were 23rd and got your 9th choice...how badly did 120 do? 😱

You'll rock it anyway.

ob is the shizznay
i hope i go last..is there a way to ask that you be last?
why not make all my classmates giddy with joy while the comp does all my work for me!

I wish my husband looked like that guy!! LOL **drool**

Well, he does make cute babies - I'll give him that.

Here - I had to include a pic of my other daughter to prove it. I don't take as many pictures of her since she's not terribly cooperative when the camera comes out. 😉
