That is very impressive that you could bench your whole body weight! I have never done the punching bag but it sounds cool. Also may be good to vent frustration. 🙂

Some people have a punching bag and put pictures of people they don't like on their punching bag to rile themselves up.

Who would be on your punching bag right now? Mine would be Tom DeLay because I think he deserves a beating.

I have no one on mine.......i guess im a peaceful guy then....?

I would do anything for a Coke right now, but I don't have any. I had some Sprite but it is so old that it tasted really nasty.

Well, can't you go out and buy one? You could also call and order a pizza along with some coke. Of course, you would then have to deal with the pizza.

Ha. That's what I do when I run out of soda (even though I live in the midwest, I REFUSE to say pop g'damnit!). Call up the pizza joint and be like, "Yeah wasup. I need a pizza. Oh yeah, 6-pack of Sam's and a 2L soda would be fantastic!"

Yeah, that's a really good idea. 🙂 I may order some pizza for my TV marathon tonight.

The Kentucky/Michigan St. game is very exciting - end of 1st OT right now.

Woo hoo! It would have been better if Wisconsin made it, too, but 50% isn't bad. Regarding the Spartans, I think the saying is "my enemy's enemy is my friend" 😀

dude, we're gonna rumble when we get up to Boston...hey when you planning on moving up there anyway?

oh wait, I forgot. After taking my anger management class, Andy says no to violence. Andy resorts to diplomacy to resolve conflict.

Andy, my brother has a shirt that says "College" on it, just like your avatar. So everytime I see your new avatar I think of my brother. Which is a good thing - he's a cool dude.

Sweet. I once had that sweatshirt in college too. But some asshat stole it 😡 . Nah, I probably lost it  . I miss that shirt. 🙁

I'm totally with you on that, geddy. I'm not a huge fan of Michigan St., but I hate Kentucky. 🙂
For me it was really easy - hate Kentucky, and not too fond of Michigan, either 😉

Hah! Don't know yet - in June sometime. We're putting our house on the market and my wife is applying for jobs in Boston. Whether we are going to rent or try to buy a condo somewhere will depend on how those 2 tasks progress. It sure would be nice to find out when exactly we start 😱

Hopefully they will tell you soon...it could be as early as the middle of june though with all the orientation activities.

I found the best recipe for chocolate cake frosting. It's the one on the back of the Hershey's Powdered Baking Cocoa can. My mom put it on the chocolate cake today. It was the first time in ages that I was like "Yum! Cake!" Usually I only get excited over German Chocolate cake.

I hope not - the welcome email said "when you join us in July".

Having just watched the South Park episode where Cartman tries to eradicate the world of hippies...I find myself suddenly in the mood to listen to Slayer. :horns:

So people on Pre-Allo and Lounge have been creamin' over this new show called Grey's Anatomy. Curiosity gets a hold of me and I decided to start downloading the pilot episode before leaving work. I get back home several hours in excitement, looking forward to watching the show. After watching it, I realize that I don't get why everyone's all rah rah about this show.

Conclusion #1: I don't care much for this show. I will not be downloading any further episodes.
Conclusion #2: Thank f*cking gawd I don't have to an internship or transitional year! 👍 😀

I thought that Grey's Anatomy was quite lame. My two favorite parts were:

1) the 48 hour shift (36 isn't bad enough)
2) the same surgeons doing appendectomies, CABG, and neurosurgery

Agree on the internship!! Pathology rules!!

And why the flying monkey f*ck does the asian person always get stereotyped as the frickin' gunner?????

I propose an alternative version of the script:

Sandra Oh's character: Ooo oooh I wanna assist in the first surgery. I'm the intern with most promise. Pick me! Pick me!
Surgeon: Beeyotch, I'm tryin' to respect you!

Didn't see the show - but not surprising that the interns get way more responsibility than they would in real life. TV likes you to think that new doctors are doing neurosurg and cardiac bypasses. 🙄

No, it is that the creators of the show are typical american media types pandering to the lowest common denominators of sensation and sizzle.

What they need to do is spend one hour following around one team as they admit a chronic patient with diabetes and COPD. I would watch that show!

One of my consults yesterday was an 18 y/o guy sitting in Emerg. He said he wanted to go to med school and do Psychiatry.

Of course I said "Good for you!"

I never know what else to say any more. I usually tell them to talk to lots of people and get a feel for what medicine is really like.

Med school seems a terribly long road to do Psychiatry when there are similar options like Clinical Psychology.

Tomorrow he will probably want to do something else.

I don't know what to say either to young people who say they want to do medicine. I guess I want to say, "that's nice, get back to me in 3 years..."

From our brief encounter I think he had a fighting chance. He's got family in the sciences and in clinical oncology.

A fighting chance better than my housemate the nursing student who failed her 1st sem and was disappointed to find out that her GPA was less than 3.0 (because it now means she "can't go to med school" among other things) and "why are they counting the first semester anyway??!!"

 Yeah first semester counts! My first semester of college was my worst too but only because I took romantic poetry taught by a socialist apologist. She did not like my interpretations.

Why was a socialist apologist teaching romantic poetry? 😕

As I progress through med school I grow ere more convinced that the quality of teaching regardless of the setting is only as good as the individual you work directly with.

I can speak very highly of my Surgery rotation, but that's only because I did not have the misfortune of being assigned to some other particularly nasty services.

I had a friend first year of college that really wanted to go to med school, but was "avoiding the sciences." Didn't work out.

True geekdom is loving the new SciFi Channel show, "Battlestar Galactica." 👍

Also, I picked up a used copy of "Surgical Secrets" today. 😍

I like SciFi a lot but have not seen this. I will have to Tivo it and check it out. What kind of SciFi is it - X-files SciFi, or StarTrek SciFi? (I hate Star Trek).

When's the big defense date?

Evo, I didn't think Battlestar Galactica was all that great. And after watching the last episode of the season, I was like "WTF?"

No Disneyworld, but I did leave work early to come home and take a nap! 😀

Um, pardon me... I don't mean to stereotype - it's an ugly habit. But isn't this coming from the asian guy who was really disappointed with his poor showing of a 239 on Step 2, even though his scores came after Rank Lists were submitted? Please...

Was I disappointed? I don't think so. I was more relieved than anything else that I had passed the damn thing and put this miserable experience behind me (only to look forward to step 3...boo to that). And I was proud of myself for making the executive decision to pay the $50 to extend my step 2 to 3 months so that the step 2 score wouldn't be in before ROL deadline. And I called it! My step 2 score WAS significantly below my step 1 score. Disappointed? Not at all. Relieved? Damn straight!

Oh BTW, I resent the fact that you label my 239 a poor showing. Just because you got a 412 on step 2 doesn't mean I did poorly. You just simply kicked ass.

My bad... I must have misinterpreted your response at the time 😉 You did call it - played it perfectly!

Touche...likewise. You played it perfectly too. I mean that was sheer brilliance...click automatic send...then get a 412...shock and awe.

My step 1 score was significantly below both of your scores. Of course, when I took step 1, it was still on paper, so the mean was lower, too. My step 2 made up for it, but that was my saving grace I think. My step 1 was just good enough to get an interview and my step 2 (combined, of course, with my scinitillating personality) clinched the deal 🙄

Well all that is a moot point. Cheers dude.

BTW, you might be wondering about the whole letters of reference deal for Brigham. I just got an email response saying that they have my letters from the residency application on file and I don't need to send any extra ones. This should apply to you too. Just figured you might wanna know... 🙂
