Random non-pathology and only peripherally related to pathology thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You're now forcing me to merge the threads!

But I thought that the was some server issues that they wanted all threads over a certain sized caped...

This one certainly seems be confusing the server..

It says there are 10 more pages after this page, despite the fact that this is clearly the newest post (or was when I made it)

Plus half the times I try to load this thread (only this thread) the request times out)

Yeah, that is happening to me too, not sure why. I get around it by clicking the thread title (which goes to page 1), then clicking "last page." For some reason, that all works quickly. But that's been happening for a few days or weeks now.

That server issue for capped threads is no longer an issue. New server or something.

Maybe we found a way to break the new more powerful server too...

We are stress testing... sure thats right.. stress testing...

THere are some threads that are LOTS longer than this one. I think the premeds are having a competition now as to whose thread is longer. Because apparently that helps you get into med school. 🙄

FYI, there is an open path position posted on the open positions forum

i just posted this in the 2009 applicants thread, but i suppose it belongs here. anyway, i just arrived back in tel aviv after an epic trip to the american southwest. i was with my best old friends from college, celebrating an upcoming wedding in june. we all met up in vegas, and from there we made our way through utah - first stopping off to hike and camp at Kolob Canyon Arch, and eventually heading way out to the Maze District of Canyonlands National Park (southeast utah). This was an extremely remote canyon system, carved deep into the landscape. it required some pretty sketchy rapelling with our packs, and some tight fits through narrow rock formations . . . all just to get down into the canyon system. once down there, we hiked nearly 18 miles per day, stopping to climb/boulder on the very cool rock formations that line the canyon walls. in 4 or 5 days of camping, we saw a lot of great bird species, had many intimate encounters with the local bat population, we admired 5,000 year old petroglyphs on the canyon walls, enjoyed perfect weather, and got to camp on a rock ledge about 70 feet up, perfectly out of range from the no-see-ums, wind sheltered, and sized to fit 4 people, yet we were only three. so it was a nice deal.

we got back to vegas fully incapable of assimilating to civilized, modern society, but we did our best. it just took a little beer. all in all, i can say with utmost confidence that this was the best trip i have had in years, probably takes 2nd or 3rd place to kayaking the inside passage, and fishing from the agulowok lodge. much of it had to do with the company, much of it had to do with timing, and just as much had to do with the impressive nature of the Canyonlands National Park. a truly spectacular place. i highly recommend a trip . . .

oh, and i even met a path resident from cornell in the ABSOLUTE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE! small, weird world . . .

Sounds nice. I just returned from a cruise down to Mexico and Honduras... it was a mix of fun and work (mostly wrangling my kid and juggling the in-laws) but fun overall... hard to get back to work today but I only have a month to get anything accomplished so I need to get crackin'...

Sounds like everyone is having nice vacations. I'm jealous, because I am still trucking along at school. 3 more weeks till I'm done. I'm not going on vacation, but I am buying a new car, so I can't complain too much. Plus I finally found a place to live and it is really nice.

New cars are good. I'm working on saving up to replace my large gas guzzling SUV...

Did anyone else have to reload this thread like, oh, I dunno, 20 times in order to view it? And a few more times to actually get to post?

BH

Yeah, it is loading funny. But just this thread. The way around it that I have found it if you click on the thread title (which takes you to the first page of the thread) and then click on "last page" it will load very quickly. But if you try to go directly to "last page" from the main forum page, it will be slow.

I am putting out a request for someone to look into it. Not sure what is going on.

yaah your pic makes you look like a schmuck..

I had my account deactivated. Apparently Big Brother is watching what I say.

I may be back in a few years.

Bummer. Major bummer.

Reinvent yourself under a new account as a female attending from a small midwest PP group and go from there...

I am a schmuck. The guy in the avatar is most certainly NOT a schmuck though. Go an listen to this, particularly the last track on disk 2, and get back to me.

Does anyone have the low down on where to find the good/cheap/shells-on-the-floor kind of lobster places in or around Boston?
:hijacked:

How far away?

Up on the north shore there are a few places, particularly Ipswich and Essex. The main one I know of is called Woodman's - I believe that's in Essex. You pick out your lobster, they cook it, you sit at a picnic table and eat it.

Thanks for the info Yaah...
I am heading to a little place near there in rockport. I'll provide reviews when I return.😀

In honor of friday, and my last day in my postdoc / med school / grad school for the past 8 years, I thought I'd give this thread a bump and say TGIF.

With any luck, by the time I'm out of residency and into academics, I'll wind up like this guy:

Just kidding. 😀

TGIF... anyone doing anything fun in June?

I was just there for lunch a few weeks ago..

I lived around these parts (North Shore) for a number of years so this was a frequent haunt..

congrats BH! i don't know how "fun" it will be, but i am heading to kuwait on the 12th for a week. i'm in a wedding. should be interesting, and at least its a change of scenery . . .

It is getting harder and harder to post anything in this forum... I had to resort to opening the first page, then advancing it forward... the page numbers are all messed up.

Have fun in Kuwait. I am headed to Dallas for a few days, but other than that, not much. Got my new computer in, so thats fun. Doing chores around the house and enjoying the slack time while I can.

Have fun in Dallas.

I've been doing absolutely nothing the last two days. I'm in a new area, far away from my family/friends. I have no extra money, and I've already unpacked and organized/cleaned my apartment. My days have consisted of eating, watching tv, and playing world of warcraft. And supposedly this is suppose to be the best time of my life.

So, I see I've been gone 4 months and the Random thread has all but disappeared. I couldn't resist bumping it back up... enjoy the following.

I don't know what's wrong with this thread, I think it has died because you can't see any posts without opening page one and then skipping to the end. So if you like, just start a new one.
