I just started watching Ladder 49. So far it looks to be pretty good.
TV show or movie?

I don't have the attention span to follow too many TV shows....even with the convenience of downloading episodes and watching them whenever I'm at home.

Movie. I don't watch that many movies but watch way too much TV. I actually haven't even been to the theater since Lord of the Rings.

I hate moving books. They're so heavy and useless. I will never read them again. Developmental Biology by Scott Gilbert. Nope. Never again. Ooh...what is this? A Physical Organic Chem book...worthless. Oh now look at this...Bates' History and Physical Exam Skills book...that's going in the trash. Moving books suck.
Three words: Sell, you idiot 😀

We should all sell our useless books and give the money to SDN so that it will stop going down all the time.

I just watched Sin City today. Thought the movie was a bit weird but I left the theater very satisfied. I tend to prefer stupid comedy over guts 'n gore but I thought this movie was very good.

Yeah, nobody wants my old books though. Remember, I've been in med school for way too long. Even my Robbins is outdateed. All these damn new editions coming out every few years.

I have three book piles now:
Pile #1 - Definitely gonna toss. I have all these Orgo books from college...yeah and when the hell am I gonna ever use those again. Everything can be found online now. No need for old books.
Pile #2 - Store at parents' house.
Pile #3 - Quite a very small pile. Mostly consisting of guitar and piano books. This pile moves with me to Boston.

I hope this money I'm making will actually allow me to have more than cardboard cartons for bookshelves.
oh that's so not first class. please buy bookshelves with your book fund. i implore you.

The answer to your question is "No." There is never an opportune time for SDN to go down

The question is: is there ever an opportune time? 😉

No. Isn't it the worst thing ever when you come home after a long day, plan on checking out SDN and chilling out, and it's down? Then what do you do? I go watch some TV. But I have to keep coming back to see when SDN comes back up. You never know - could be ten seconds, could be hours.

I haven't heard anything about Sin City. I guess I am more into dramas or sci-fi - not so much into guts and gore either. Of course, I will have to wait for it to come out on DVD so I can get it through Netflix. 🙂

Interestingly, I can so hear you saying that. 😀

I don't think bookshelves are covered in the book fund. 'Sides, I have better things to do with my book fund. Like Paris in September.

Are you going to Paris? I have never been overseas. Part of me would really like to go, but I HATE flying and would probably freak out on a flight that long. I can do little 2-3 hour ones in North America, but would probably require sedation for something much longer. 🙂

I guess in a year when I have an MD, maybe I can write myself a script for some benzos and then fly to Europe.

This is frightening. When I'm at home I'm the same way.

Well my roommate is usually watching stuff he Tivo'd...and he's into different kind of shows than I am. So sometimes I will substitute watching TV with listening to music or taking a nap.

Yeah...just pack a few tranquilizer darts...and you're totally set 👍

Haven't been to Europe yet...that's the one part of the world I would like to have the chance to go to someday. Oh then there's Japan too. My mom tells me that there's a lot of kickass sushi in Japan.

I have wasted quite impressive amounts of time in this way

I am currently worried about not being able to find someone for June. And about not being able to get rid of the rest of my stuff. Ideally the money I make would be equal or more than my rent. But that is wishful thinking.

And in the end I know worrying about this is as useful as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing gum - but it still niggles at me.......... 👎

Yeah, I didn't hear anything about Sin City either until Friday night when one of the people in the happy hour group told us, "Guys! You guys! Totally you guys! There's this movie. It's called Sin City. Must go! Must see! I just heard that this movie kicks ass. Seriously you guys!"

Anyways, by the time it comes out on DVD, you'll probably have forgotten that we even had this conversation

I was thinking pills, but I guess darts would work. 🙂

The fact that there is lots of sushi in Japan is enough to keep me away. I get nauseated just looking at other people eating sushi.

I am hoping to go to Paris. I do not know if I will get there.

I have a 19 hour and 35 minute flight scheduled for the 21st of May. Guess I should swallow some aspirin before I get on the plane.

Do you mean the raw fish? There is often no fish, or cooked fish, in sushi.

There is sometimes even corn 🙂

Yes, unfortunately I will probably have forgotten. And even if I remember, my Netflix queue is more than 200 movies long so I probably won't get to it anytime soon.

That is very unfortunate. I think sushi is one of the best foods ever created.

beary, don't listen to her. sushi in canada is different from sushi in america.

I have only had sushi one time - this was the "raw fish" kind, not the "corn" kind. 🙂 If there were going to be corn sushi anywhere, this would be the place. I suppose maybe I should give it another shot. I actually just generally don't like fish in general, even when it is thoroughly cooked and breaded.

deschutes said:

Actually sushi in SA is quite similar to sushi in AA.

My point? Sushi in Canada has corn.

Well sushi isn't for everyone. I think that for most people, the "you either like it or you don't" rule definitely applies. Perhaps for some people, the "it's an acquired taste" which often applies to beer can be appropriate.

Give sushi another shot. Try the barbequed eel sushi, spicy tuna, or california roll as "safer" choices if you do. 🙂

🙂 The answer to that is "Where the heart is", although having been away for 2 years I don't know if I can call it "home" any more.

Hmmm... 😕

The second baffling post of the evening.

Sorry you have been a 19 hour flight away from your heart for two years.

I think it is probably an acquired taste. I don't like beer either for this same reason.

Sushi in SA has cilantro! and some jalapeno-type hot pepper I can't remember the name of.

dude, americans LOVE spicy tuna for some reason.

spicy = bad (unless we are talking about a Spicy TenderCrisp Chicken Sandwich at Burger King)
tuna = very bad

I think this American will not like spicy tuna.

point taken.

There's this sushi joint like 2 minutes up from my apartment. They serve a sushi that only contains egg in the middle. I guess it's the Japanese version of the...egg roll? get it? haha. 🙄

I was thinking of bowels, Andy, bowels.

I have evidence of a sushi outlet in Sacremento, CA serving corn sushi.
interesting...i would think that corn is easier on the colon than spicy tuna.

CA, Canada, and corn all start with the letter "c". Coincidence? I think not.

Any more brilliant insights there deshutes?

I am imagining a sunny-side-up rolled between rice. Ugh. That is even worse than corn. How can they do that to rice!

I completely agree. Which is why I was wondering why you would even suggest spicy tuna.

Stop thief! You stole my "c"!

WA doesn't start with "c". You arranged that trio to suit yourself.

Well, Andy and deschutes, this has been a blast, but I am off to bed. Hope you sleep well. I am sure we will all be on SDN tomorrow. 🙂
