Random non-pathology and only peripherally related to pathology thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just got my DSL installed... so I FINALLY have high speed internet!! Woohoo!! 😎

It is so nice. You folks may be seeing a bit more of me since I won't have to wait about a minute or so for each thread to load. 😉

I know! I grossed AND dictated! (the first portion of my dictation may be kind of skimpy on the punctuation, but still) Trust me, young grasshopper, your day will come when you may breathe in the sweet fumes of formaldehyde as your scalpel blade slices through tissue as if it was carried on the wings of angels. And they will call you pathologist. And I will call myself high off the frozen section fumes. 😀

One of the former residents here had a great quote about placentas.

Placentas? Why you need microscope to sign out placentas?

Yeah, surg path is fun...granted, I just finished my first week on surgicals and I have no idea what I'm looking for in a lot of cases. Thank god I have a trainer to show me the ropes this week and for the next 2 weeks.

On frozen section call for the whole holiday weekend...should be a blast!

Hey Andy, what is the whole "bring the pain" thing supposed to be about?

He's probably just getting psyched for surg path.

So, one of my friends just kept my roomate from falling over and then was like. "Are you ok to stand up? Can I let go?" And she was all belligerently "YEAH." Then he lets go and after a 2 second delay, she tips over. We laughed at her. She tips over when she is sitting on the couch. It's funny.

Do you get lots of weekend frozens? Most weekends here are free (after friday evening, sometimes a late friday case) unless there is a transplant or something.

Ooh ooh, me too!

My parents were here this weekend for the game and brought season one of 24 with them, and left it here for me. Now that the red sox game is starting to suck, it's time to start watching Mr Bauer. 👍

Surgeons here do quite a bit of *scheduled* surgeries on weekends (significantly more than at Michigan) so it was quite a culture shock when I got here. As a result, we can get a quite a few frozen sections coming in. I only had one this weekend...and it was for some asinine surgeon who kept digging around for a tumor which I bet didn't exist. Then the assclown sends us a third frozen section specimen and proceeds to close and finish up the case. We call the OR with the benign result and we find out that the procedure was over. The attending was pissed. What made the day was then the attending left the frozen section room with the following parting words, "What a f*cking idiot." A few emails will be exchanged.

We had a kidney transplant case too and were expecting a frozen section call for that. But it never came. Apparently, the donor kidney was crap cuz we ended up getting that as a specimen. So instead of doing a frozen on it, we had to gross/tuck it in yesterday and submit the blocks today.

Here, one of the 5 surg path residents on at a given time is assigned to basically grossing in anything that comes in on the weekend and doing frozen section calls. Although the weekend OR schedule tends to be lighter, there are cases that go on nonetheless. The surgeons, especially the younger ones, are quite manic here.

P.S. BTW yaah, no direct attack on you but I really hate your avatar. I humbly ask that you change it to a cool avatar. What is that thing anyway? And do I want to know? 😉

I have no idea what it is. I was going to change in soon but now that people are complaining I feel like leaving it up there. 😉

If you have no idea what it is, then it was somebody else's idea for you to have that avatar. Who was or were this person/people? And why is/are he/she/they not shot yet? just kidding.

Dude. Your avatar kicks ass. I wish you hadn't picked it, so that I could have it for my avatar. My chin is wet with the drool of jealousy.

Screw you, man. You are gonna get to look at my bear collection now. Mwahahahaha!. :meanie:

Hey Warcraft folks,

I am thinking about getting World of Warcraft. Is it worth the $15/month?

A friend told me there is a free 10 day trial, but I don't want to get addicted. 😳

I uploaded a new one. It showed up for awhile, then died.

*edit* it seems to be back

I really like it - that is so cute! Do you like bears?

I love bears. I have lots of Boyd's Bears decorations in my house.

Some of my friends in Ann Arbor got into the game right after it came out. They really enjoyed it and said it was definitely worth the $15/month. However, the problem is that they have jobs and social lives and WoW is very addictive and can suck a lot of time out of your day. However, it's one of those games where you can, if you have some discipline, play for an hour or two and take a break. It doesn't require you to play non-stop for hours to have achieved something.

I decided not to buy it because I know I would be totally sucked into it and would probably play non-stop.

There are some residents, who no matter how nice you are to them and how much you try to help them out or work together, assume that everything is a competition. Gunners piss me off. Always want to be famous or something. +pissed+

So, tell them to chill. It's only a big production if you make it into one.

these people are freaking doctors and they are still at it? when will they stop, when they're made surgeon general?!?!

This person doesn't walk over me, that's not an issue. And they already thinks they are chill. A gunner of the worst sort - one who does not think they are (or at least, fancies themselves as not) a gunner. Personally, I don't really give that much of a crap. I don't really want to be famous, so I have no reason to be a gunner.

So they think they are chill but they are not, so you hate them? What is this, 90210? 🙄

I bet you're talking about Gyn-bitch. Yeah, well here's one solution.

Drink a 2L soda. Just pound that ****. Add rum to it to add some kick to it. But that's not the most important thing. After you down that ****, then you take all the rage and fury within you and put it inside the 2L bottle. Then shake that **** up and bop the bitch over the head a few times. Then open that **** up in her face and BRING THE PAIN!!!!! UNLEASH THE FURY!!!

UNLEASH THE FURRRRRYYYYYYY!

Well see, I once told her that restrictions on animal experimentation were too stringent and they ended up hurting the progress of research (because you have to practically apply to congress if you want to do anything other than pet an animal in a lab) and she practically bit my head off. She would probably make a decent chief resident since she works hard though and is a smart one. Might also mean more to her than me.

yaah speaks the truth. I cannot count the number of hours I have spent filling out stupid animal paperwork.

I'm going to set them free so all of these animals with no immune systems can be set free into the wild where they will catch every disease within 5 minutes and die horrible painful deaths.

What's up with all these "The server is too busy at the moment" messages on SDN??

Same thing was happening last night, too. Tried using Beta server, no difference. 😕

It's the load balancer. That happens for few seconds instead of the server crashing.

I don't know what any of that acutally means, but I'm glad somebody knows what's going on 🙂

I'm called Little Buttercup — dear Little Buttercup,
Though I could never tell why,
But still I'm called Buttercup — poor little Buttercup,
Sweet Little Buttercup I!

I've snuff and tobaccy, and excellent jacky,
I've scissors, and watches, and knives;
I've ribbons and laces to set off the faces
Of pretty young sweethearts and wives.

I've treacle and toffee, I've tea and I've coffee,
Soft tommy and succulent chops;
I've chickens and conies, and pretty polonies,
And excellent peppermint drops.

Then buy of your Buttercup — dear Little Buttercup;
Sailors should never be shy;
So, buy of your Buttercup — poor Little Buttercup;
Come, of your Buttercup buy!
