Get her email address; c'mon, you're creative and can think on your feet. Then work in a known 'cc' to Yaah which is quite natural when you hit on a subject of mutual interest; he can use his outstanding literary wit to break her defenses down. I think it would work (my friends and I have used such diabolical though harmless treachery in the past).
Maybe you and I can plan something out like Seinfeld and Costanza did in
THE ROOMMATE SWITCH.
sounds too complicated. i do have her email addy from an email sent to the whole lab (which I got when I was working there a few months ago). but how about making up some random yahoo account and sending a series of cryptic email messages on yaah's behalf. of course, i would have to do this from a remote computer to prevent her and her lawyer from tracking my IP address. wait, this sounds complicated too

or another option...yaah just asks her out without any intervention from andy.

That would require I run into her though. I had a brief conversation with her but nothing that would warrant me stopping by the lab without it seeming a bit weird.

I can figure out her email - since I know her name and we have a directory. That's not the issue!

seriously, you need to stop being negative. be happy...like me

i'm gonna stop by TG lab and tell her how you feel about her...enough of the child's play...it's time to expedite this process!

Expedite! Expedite!

Dude! Aha! Tell her that you still thought I worked there. Say that you were looking for me...then say, "Hey I didn't know you worked here! Remember me? I'm that really tall guy with the fake canine." That'll start a conversation! 👍 Good luck. May the force be with you.

But I do know you no longer work there. 🙄 😉

You know why this wouldn't work? Because if I go there she will be absent. No, I need to run into her somewhere else.

Yeah but she doesn't know that you know that I don't work there! Geezus tap dancing christ, get with the program! Do I have to explain everything to you?!?

Your concern regarding her absence when you visit is legit. If you use the explanation that you thought I worked there still, then you only get one chance. I'll give you a hint, she's there during lunch hours.

Godspeed jedi...you have work to do.

We may need to regroup and come up with a new plan. I will **** this one up. I suck at stuff like this. I need a tv-sitcom type of situation where we are both locked in an elevator with nothing but a bottle of wine, a scented candle, and a lighter.

Look dude it's easy:

Yaah goes down to TGs lab at 12:30. L is eating lunch.

Yaah: "Hi, is Andy here?"
D or M (they also work there and will serve as smokescreens): "He doesn't work here anymore."
Yaah: "Oh, I didn't know that."
L: "Oh hi tall white man."
Yaah: "Oh hello there. I didn't know you worked here."
L: "Yes I do. You know Andy?"
Yaah: "Yes, the rotund jolly Asian fellow."

you get the drift. the conversation has started. now you run with it.

perhaps if you had a few drinks this plan would sound clearer.

Oh yeah...I forgot to mention...that lab is an estrogen fest. There is one guy who works there but he hangs out in the adjacent room. In the room I was working in, I represented the sole representative of the Y chromosome.

Just work your charm. It's easy. They're all very nice.

Why would he hang out in an adjacent room with those girls around? 😕

Why doesn't she come to try to find me? Why must I do all the work? 😡

Clearly!

I found one of the other Quiznos around here today when I went to best buy for printer ink. Of course I stopped there for lunch. 😎

Looks like you've been having quite a busy day. Clinical chemistry must be so stimulating.

I think he's ditching work. Seriously, I heard that at Michigan, if you don't show up to clinical chem, nobody really notices or gives you a hard time about it. Now if this becomes a regular pattern, then that's different

deschutes said:
Hmph well, if she's anything like you...!

To celebrate the last day of clinic this week, I treated myself to a $10 lunch too.
I would say congrats but you said "this week" which implies that you still have more days in the clinic 👎

If she's anything like me she's on the pre-allo forum right now trying to think up an excuse to come to the chem lab. I doubt this.

I didn't ditch today. They knew I wasn't going to be there.

Just go there with the sole purpouse of asking her out and DO IT. 🙄

[cue cartman voice]: "That's what I said, but he won't listen to reason."

I wonder how long this whole situation will continue to eat away at him. Clearly this is affecting not only his life but also his work. He thinks about it...he thinks about it...oops, he forgot to go to work...he thinks about it...days pass by...maybe even months...

I think it is nicer to be sought out than to just be asked out on a whim. I don't like this whole randomly dropping by business.

I did drop by. We had a good chat, lots of laughter. Both of them were there though so it's kind of hard to ask someone out in mixed company. Then oddly enough I ran into both of them at lunch (p.s. if I had gone there at 12:30 like you said she would have been gone and my plans completely foiled!). I am getting a vibe though that the other one (I think G is her name, but not completely sure) as opposed to L kind of likes me, although both seem very friendly. They already have a nickname for me and knew that I was going to be on room I in march. And I gave them both some gum. So I will probably send L an email and keep the lines of communication open, and see what happens.

Happy now? Although in truth I didn't really do much to advance the situation except stand there and drool at her. Asking someone out in front of their friend I don't think is that cool though.

And hey! I didn't ditch work yesterday that was a planned day off.

glad it worked out. i'm sure they appreciated the gum...that is the start of a friendship that will last forever.

one word of caution...G is very friendly. don't over-interpret it...cuz she's already off the market.

yes i agree that is not cool. problem is they seem to be together all the time. i see them leaving work around 5 pm together (they park near my lab bldg). good luck breaking through that forcefield.

you don't have to make excuses or explain your less than perfect attendance from work to me...you gotta take that up with JF.

Very interesting. Things are falling into place mwahahaha. The next phase of my plan is indeterminate if either 1) I have the wrong email address, 2) she doesn't write back to me.

We talked about you as well. They are under the impression you don't love working with a bunch of women!

All these womens are just too damn friendly and that throws me off!!!

I meant that I think it's cheezy to meet someone "randomly" in the hall and ask them out. It's much more flattering if you know the person isn't just asking you out on a whim. Dropping by the lab randomly and being friendly is not the same as being like "oh... hey. funny to see you here. wow. i just realized we should go out." That is so flakey. What you are doing is fine.

What is this e-mail thing you are doing?

Maybe you know a group of people goes out after work and you could invite both of them to go along?

None of it matters because nothing is ever going to happen anyway. I know how my life goes and I am rarely surprised. Even when I change the equation and variables. I am still optimistic and see where things go but I predict a casual acquaintance and nothing more. I'm probably too old for her anyway.

The email was just brief and was follow up on jokes we talked about. I am about 85% certain that I will not get a reply. One may call me a pessimist but we'll see who is laughing when I don't get a reply. :luck:

Andy can I borrow your *BONK* stick please?

I give you lots of credit for emailing her on the same day you talked to her. Kinda reminiscent of calling a woman the same night after getting her number at the bar. But emails aren't perceived the same way phone calls are.

As for the *BONK!* stick, you can use it AS LONG AS you promise to return it to me by Thursday 8 pm. After taking Step 2 on Friday, I vow to get utterly wasted and I'm gonna need the *BONK!* stick to keep from collapsing.

Well g-d it I can't bloody well call her because I barely know her. But email is a bit impersonal and a good first step, I think. Maybe not. Maybe I should go down there with a diamond ring and ask her to marry me. I for one would find it creepy if someone called me out of the blue who I don't know. It happened to me before when I girl I sort of knew from work left a message on my home machine and I have no idea how she got it.

this is all amusing to me. i hope things work out because my abdominal muscles are sore from laughing so hard.

How about... wait till you can't take it any more, then trot off to the lab, look goofy (which under the circumstances will come perfectly naturally) and say, "Hey you wanna go for coffee sometime?"

All of your advice is sensational, truly. However, clearly I am doomed.

p.s. Andy - up a little late?

You believe this situation makes sense? I am not going to get clutched about it, I have other stuff to do. Whatever happens happens.

Soon I will start trolling the local middle school for a nice teacher who will respect me. 😉

And yes, I am your mother. Although since your step II preparations are done there really isn't much point to worry!

this situation is, in large part, in your head. that in and of itself makes sense to me. now what goes in your head is entirely your biz.

Still haven't seen that movie.

Movies I have to see that people always yell at me for not having seen:

Napoleon Dynamite
Team America
Pulp Fiction
The Incredibles

yeah...as long as my car starts tomorrow morning...that's all i care about now. if that doesn't happen, i'll be forced to walk to step 2 😱

if you got so many girlfriends, why are you fretting and despairing so much about L?

I'm not fretting and despairing that much. It just seems like it because I am talking about it. In actuality I am quite fine. I took the chance and that's all I can do.

Gonna be lots of people needing jumpstarts tomorrow morning. Better get up early!

OK now see that sounds better. Much better than...oooh look at me, I'm such a pathetic loser. BTW, get rid of that tagline.
