All the people I am in med school with seem like young whippersnappers to me now. (I'm 27, they're 24ish)

Wow, you're a young'un. you'll make faculty by mid-30's and quiet all the naysayers who like to say that all physician-scientists get their first faculty position in the late-30's! Holla!

They called me gramps when I was going through clerkships.

Why do you do this to yourself? Sounds like textbook self destructive behavior to me. Food and you do not have to be in conflict!
Several reasons:

(1) In the middle of frigid -40, all I crave is a hot bowl of tom yam goong (or szechuan soup, or spicy beef noodles...).
(2) I never have to buy lip-plumping lipstick.
(3) People in Asia have lower rates of colon cancer. None of this HNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGG!!! business.

I like to eat hot food when it is cold too, but I usually go with chicken noodle soup or something. If I go wild and crazy, I may throw some chipotle into my vegetable soup.

I rarely wear lipstick anyway, plump or no plump.

I do not have a good response to this. I have no family history of colon cancer - is that good enough to avoid spicy foods? 😉

Wow, you're right! I actually have never done the math before.
graduate - 28
finish residency (if AP/CP) - 32
finish postdoc - 35ish

sweet!!!! 😀

Hot spicy food is great for cold winter weather. If it doesn't make you sweat, it's no good.

beary, I've done the math in my head many times. I'm actually only a year older than you (but my knees feel 5 years older than that  ) but yeah my math tells me: graduate - 28; 3 yr AP only - finish at 31; 4 yr postdoc (which is a generous estimate given the "plight of the postdoc" these days) - finish at 35 (best case scenario).

i've also done the math for private practice: graduate - 28; 4 yr AP/CP - finish at 32 at which point I can bitch incessantly on SDN Path like LADoc00.

I better come up with ideas quick or I'll soon be finding myself sitting around with my thumb up my ass twirling round 'n round.
Is this another of them SP references?

Twirling a thumb round 'n round. That is a degree of freedom beyond that of mere opposition. That is like, supAHcircumduction.

Watch you don't lose your thumb up your ass. 😛

Actually that statement is NOT a SP reference. A classmate came up with that one when he described the Internal Medicine clerkship in our med school class forum. Internal Medicine can also be compared to picking your nose and sculpting farm animals with your boogers.

Yeah, losing thumb up ass would be bad. No more driving slides at the microscope. No more throwing a disc.

Well I am slightly older than all of you and therefore more mature.
I would have to agree with this. But that's because I behave like I'm 22.

I am sure he is beloved by internist-wannabes in your class and everywhere else! 😉
actually, i think he matched into neurosurg

oh, everybody loves this character 🙄

My favorite Monty Python bit of a sketch:

Kenny Lust: Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the refreshment room here at Bletchley. My name is Kenny Lust and I'm your compère for tonight. You know, once in a while it is my pleasure, and my privilege, to welcome here at the refreshment room, some of the truly great international artists of our time. And tonight we have one such artist. Ladies and gentlemen, someone whom I've always personally admired, perhaps more deeply, more strongly, more abjectly than ever before. A man... well, more than a man, a god, a great god, whose personality is so totally and utterly wonderful my feeble words of welcome sound wretchedly and pathetically inadequate. Someone whose boots I would gladly lick clean until holes wore through my tongue, a man who is so totally and utterly wonderful, that I would rather be sealed in a pit of my own filth than dare tread on the same stage with him! Ladies and gentlemen... the incomparably superior human being, Harry Fink!
Voice Offstage: He can't come!
Kenny Lust: Never mind, it's not all it's cracked up to be.

So my Gen Surg preceptor (who if I may say is a total redneck Big Male kinda guy 😀 ) was giving me a ride back to the main hospital in his pick-up. He's like, "Here, pick a CD!" and tosses the CD carrier case at me. I eject the current CD from the player and I see it's Monty Python. You know, "Every sperm is sacred" and etc.

I'm like "Play it! Play it!"

And he goes Nahhhh....

That song cracks me up everytime I hear it. Actually watched Holy Grail a few nights ago. I may have to pop in Meaning of Life today when I get home.

Meaning of Life isn't the greatest - kind of uneven. Except for the scene with the fat man and "I'll have the lot."

No, it isn't the greatest. I still prefer Holy Grail and Life of Brian. Holy Grail being the all time favorite.

Would you like a mint, sir? A tiny little wafer?
I can't possibly...

I am in such a quandry about dinner tonight. I am thinking I want takeout from some italian place but I also don't really want to go anywhere to get it. But I might anyway. Thought I would share.

That was my suggestion as a dinner item. I was not saying you could get it where you were thinking of. I was saying change your plans and eat teriyaki.

Sorry, plans are already made. You were too late. Plus, the choice between bratwurst platter and whatever the special is today completely pwns chicken teriyaki.

chicken teriyaki? oh come on. that's like going to CrackDonald's and getting a Big Mac.

what will it be today?
(a) Jagerbraten
(b) Jagerbraten
(c) Jagerbraten
(d) Jagerbraten
(e) Andy should really diversify and try something new this time.

not a big fan of sauerkraut. that's why i get the jagerbraten.

banana, go eat a banana.

The jagerbraten is a good choice, indeed. I have only gotten it a couple of times though. Lately I am getting a veal or wiener schnitzel. I have no idea what to get tonight though.

Can't go yet. Have to wait for Dr Dr to finish the experiment and tuck in his children for the night.
I'm gonna lyse my cells now. Plan to be done by 6.

Nope. I'm way older than most of you, and slightly older than a few of you.

I'll give you the maturity, though. You got me beat on that one.
