I tried Geico when I moved out here (as well as progressive) - both of them were at least 10-15% more expensive than the local agency I called. I'm not sure how all these people are saving money with Geico, since I have a perfect driving record and am now over 25, so one would think I would be a client they would want to have.

I was joking with the Geico bit. But on a related note, I was considering switching to Progressive several years ago back when I was planning on switching my license and plates to the state of Michigan. Progressive had a pretty good deal going although I can't remember the exact details. In any case, I ended up getting 3 speeding tickets in a span of 4 months. But none of the points transferred to my Maryland licence. So I said the hell with changing my license over. If I had changed to Michigan, I would've had 6 points on my license and would've had to take some stupid ******ed driving class where I would write on the blackboard 200 times: "I promise to drive slower."

So I got drunk off my ass after my last 3rd year shelf exams today (Peds and Fam Med), and was watching the new Real World in Austin tonight. Holy **** that guy got smoked with a right cross to his zygomatic arch! That **** was all broken up on the Ct scan. Looked almost like an orbital blow out fracture(definitely will need plastics fixing that ****). Anyway, the best part is that he bangs the hottest girl on the show because of it. Then I was thinking to my self...Self, you should go on the real world so that you too can get your ass beat and bang hot chicks.

Today this lady was asking for scissors to cut the tip off of her new bottle of eye drops (OTC allergy crapola). So, I turned it upside down and squeezed it and a drop came out. heh. After that she didn't want the scissors anymore. People are so ******ed. COME BACK HERE! I HAVE THOSE SCISSORS YOU ASKED ME FOR! :meanie:

What happened, did she take sympathy on him or something? Or did he get beat because he "was standing up for a woman" or some crap like that?

I always wanted to go on the real world so I could be a party pooper and act like I was in the actual real world where you have to get to work on time. I would have been laughing my ass off. Would have set the alarm early, gotten up and eaten, and made sure I announced to everyone that I was taking the van and leaving so that we could get to work a few minutes early so we wouldn't be late. And if they weren't ready, they could find their own way. It would be SO awesome. I guess they would hate me, and certainly the hot chicks wouldn't get with me, but it would be worth it x1000.

And I could sit there are criticize them for drinking too much and screwing around and acting as though they were saving the planet and all that bs. And I would insist on a group outing to the opera. I would force them to all be "tolerant" instead of the usual "tolerant" that people on that show perpetuate which is to be tolerant towards people who drink a lot and have promiscuous sex and slack off, but not tolerant towards people who are actually grown up.

Ironic, eh? Yes, I think that my generation's definition of tolerance is saying things that are politically correct and agreeing with others. When someone disagrees with them in a way that isn't popular, it's ok to be intolerant of that opinion. Damn slackers.

The rest of my generation needs to take the trip, because they can't tolerate people who actually have goals in life other than getting laid and getting high and possibly having a recording career. 🙂

(1) Rob Thomas has no talent. And his NBA finals song is stupid.
(2) The montage and song for introducing the Spurs players are really cheesy and dumb. [The way the Bulls' players were introduced in Chicago back in the day still ranks #1 on my list]
(3) I'm actually more nervous about this game than Tim Duncan is about crapping his pants.
 
OK, so I only half paid attention to that first half, but it wasn't that impressive. WTF 39-38 was like the score after one quarter of any 1980s finals game.

What have I become? I am a shell of my former self if the NBA matters this little to me.

I was chatting on the phone for the better part of the first half. Both teams, from what I gathered when taking a few glances at the TV screen, are playing sloppy. I guess the commentators are right when they say that these teams bring out the worst in each other.

For those of you with HDTV, is this game being broadcasted in high-def?

No and it looks like crap.

The Semis and other playoff games were in high def on tnt-hd, but it comes to the finals and abc makes it non-highdef. Yay for them, sucky for those with a high-def tv. 😡

How ******ed is that? I thought even the network channels would have their **** together.
Yeah, I was just wondering cuz I'm pondering upgrading my cable to HDTV service (I was too poh to buy the HDTV flat panel so I had to opt for the HD ready...boohoo for me 👎 ). But if only a few channels, that I really care for to begin with, are going to be in high def, I have to think a little more about it.

Well, most of the time they do have their **** together and you can buy DVD players that play in high definition, which is nice. But honestly, there aren't all that many high def channels. You hear ALL about how everything will be HD by 2006, but I really really doubt it. The upside is that when it is HD, the picture is amazing. Some of the discovery channel HD will take your breath away. The downside is when you watch star wars in HD you can clearly tell it was made in the 80s even after being digitally remastered. I swore the last time we watched it I could see a string holding up the Tantive :laugh:

I've heard the same **** about HD by 2006. I think it's a load of bunk and it's some bull**** propaganda to get people to buy new TVs. Sure, everything will eventually become HD but it's not gonna be in the immediate future.

I did get a Toshiba HD upconvert DVD player...it was part of a Best Buy deal where if you bought a TV above $999, you got this DVD player for free. When I play my DVDs, the picture quality is quite amazing...very sharp! It's the cable stations that look like crap.

You're lucky, I had to pay for my DVD player and my ginormous TV. But I agree the upconversion is totally worth it. Our cable stations don't look too bad, but they don't show up in the proper ratio so it doesn't fill up the whole screen for some shows. Also, it is now my belief that some things were never meant to been shown so large on a TV. Those things being jim cramer and the cartoon kazaam. Rap videos do look quite bootylicious though...my husband especially enjoys the don cha' video by the pussycat dolls.
 
ABC is the only major network that doesn't broadcast sports in HD, I think. It's weird, because ESPN does. Not sure their deal.
 
You should watch kept. That is a very entertaining show.

In other bizarre actions, I arrive home (parent's house) for my graduation party to find a large sign in the yard saying "congratulations Dr. Pingu" surrounded by penguins and cutouts of mortarboards. My mom waited until the last minute to order the yard decorations and all that was left was penguins. WTF!

That's true because of the pingu cartoon but the sight of 20 or so penguins in the front yard is quite a sight.

I'm sure if my mother had the time she would have done so. She managed to get a cake decorated with doctor paraphenalia and numerous other doctor related decorations. This will be quite the party. She also vetoed several of my outfit and shoe choices 😡

This only applies to events not controlled by my mother. When she asked 9 months ago about having a party for me, I pictured a family barbecue and some cake. Then I started getting calls like this:
MOP (Mother of Pingu): I'm calling to see what color tent you would like
Pingu: Tent? You know I hate the outdoors
MOP: For your party, not for camping
Pingu: Why do we need a tent?
MOP: To feed all the people

Note: I have lived in Texas since graduating high school. My parents still live in unnamed northern state. I do not go back to said state EVER! Who are all these people?
 
My mother did a sort-of similar thing. My sister and I graduated med school the same year because I did the PSF and thus took an extra year. So my mother had a party in which she invited all the "adults" that we met over the years - people she works with, my dad works with, family members, etc. So they could all say congratulations. It was nice. No penguins though.
 
By the way, I get paid $$$ for doing the autopsy I did today because it was a research one and it was done off hours. I think I'll buy meself some shoes or something, 😉

Every single month my cable bill goes up and they simultaneously take away channels. They just took away Fox Sports Net. WTF??!! That is my best shot to see my beloved Huskers during football season.

I am here stuck in the morgue with nothing to do (I am not jinxing myself - I have already proven that jinxes are mumbo-jumbo and only superstitious people believe in them). I wish there was a place to take a nap. 🙁
 
See? Didn't jinx myself again. No cases. Now back home and it is nap time. I had an interesting morning actually looking at slides from previous cases. Have a strange brain case - demyelinating lesion, could be PML. Now I have to read about what it's supposed to look like.

It sure is a day for ice cream. It is SO hot. I was going to go into lab but I am too lazy to walk there in this heat. Instead I am going to watch TV and eat ice cream.

Technically I could have gone home - they could page me if they get paperwork saying there is an autopsy - but I would rather just know about it and take care of stuff then hear about one last minute. Plus, we could get paged to remove medical waste from bodies. I did have a nice nap though this afternoon when I got home.
