I have an interview tomorrow at 9:30 for a research assistant position at the Institute for Preclinical Studies. It's an amazing facility (answers to the CVM here) and the Dr. I'll be interviewing with has the most impressive background and education...it's totally intimidating, haha. She's done a lot of work for the government on emerging infectious diseases, which is what I'd like to do (on the zoonotic side, that is). The extra income would just be an added bonus (it's been a little too tight for comfort in the epivetlove household since I started my PhD). So nervous and excited...here's to not getting much sleep tonight. :scared:

In case anyone was curious... IcyHot in your eye stings like a mother. Avoid at all costs.

If you leave a burner on under a glass pan, it explodes.

I had a pan of brownies that I left on the stove (because that's the closest thing to counter space in our tiny kitchen) and my roommate turned on the wrong burner...and then there were shards of glass everywhere. I'm not even upset about losing the pan or the brownies, I'm just glad she's okay!

Yikes! Glad she was OK, too! I was babysitting for a friend, couple years back. I was making supper on her electric range stove, while her 2 year old played on the kitchen floor. The burner element was so old, the protective covering had worn through(unknown to us). When the element itself finally touched the copper bottom of the pan, holy crap loud noise and sparks everywhere! Poor kid was so traumatized, refused to go in the kitchen for months. I hated electric stoves before that, but hate them even more now!

Ugh, dilemma. I can stay where I am, go to school AMAP and work full time, be broke, and try to cram classes in. Or I could relocate (I just moved back to New England last Summer, a year ago) back to the midwest, live with my mom for cheaper, go to school during the day and try to hammer out my pre reqs quicker. I'm home with friends where I wanted to be for years, but to do vet school I want to put myself in the best position. And my mom isn't well either, and I know she's lonely... UGH.

I Know it seems like an easy decision but it's not, and my mom and I are always at odds together when we've been in close quarters. And I worked so hard to get back home... But now my dreams have changed. My dream was to be back, now my dream is vet school. And I would feel awkward and sad leaving my job.

The far-too-sweet-to-be-outside barn kitty muscled her way into my apartment this afternoon. It took everything in me to put her back outside 🙁

Awwww, she is the best. She forced her way into my apartment frequently. And I may or may not have been feeding her on occasion because I couldn't bear watching her eat out of the trash all the time.

The saddest was when she came in just to take a nap on my couch. I'm not sure she even has a warm, safe place to sleep out there. 🙁

Yeah I didn't really have any food for her but I did give her a few pieces of shredded cheese...she acted like she had never seen food before. 🙁 I should go pick up some kitty food for her. My boyfriend fell in love with her when he was here, he almost asked to keep her. I'm not sure what they would have said...

I honestly think they wouldn't even notice if she disappeared . . .

And if they did, she's an outdoor cat. Things happen to outdoor cats...

My kitty friend is zonked out on the couch currently 🙂

She even allowed my bird to nibble her tail.

She deserves so much better of a home 🙁

I am short-circuiting. I just applied for a transfer on a whim to WSU to finish undergrad. I guess I just need a change, but that's probably not the smartest one to make right now...

"He [Buster] didn't deserve this," Clark said, "he deserved a long and happy life, and she took that away."

Not that I have any respect for the veterinarian in this case, Clark, but you carried just as much blame for taking that life away from the moment you decided it was acceptable for her to perform surgery on your kitchen table. Talk about a lack of common sense. :banghead:

What part of "Sure we can do surgery on a house call, just clean off your kitchen table for me" DIDN'T raise a red flag? Albeit, she has a point that all anesthesia carries a risk and sometimes animals do die on the table for no apparent reason but she has far too many things working against her here. That whole situation was just bad news.

At first by the wording of the article it almost sounded like they were just using a propofol infusion... :wideyed: I can only imagine: "Propofol, the drug that killed Michael Jackson, claims the life of a rescue yorkie" ...eesh.

In the last picture, at least the dog is tubed and has a pulse ox, blood pressure cuff, and possibly EKG leads...although the monitor screen is flatlining :/

I agree with you, BD. Not that the family deserved this outcome, but I doubt this vet was the most costly in the area, if you know what I mean. On the other hand, how has this vet managed to practice without getting complaints before? The average household is hardly a sterile environment, especially with the owner and family hovering over you and taking pictures! 😱

Just got home from seeing Thor: The Dark World. I'd give it an 8/10. The story was good and the cast was great (I love, love Tom Hiddleston), but some of the production quality was lacking at parts and the pacing was a problem for me. But overall, I was not disappointed and I'd see it again/buy it. 🙂

Also, do we have a movie thread somewhere? I feel like I could talk all about movies from dawn to dusk. So many good things coming out!

I just got back from a trip to OH! 🙂 I got to shadow my friends 2nd year neuro class last week then spoke with recruitment... Spent time with friends, had a good trip, now back to reality 🙁 Rocked my chem midterm.. but have another test already this wednesday and my research paper due, feeling overwhelmed again. At least I had a small respite.

Stumbled upon a boxing gym in town last night and decided to check out some of their classes. Told my mom this on the phone tonight and she freaked. She's convinced I'm going to get myself killed.

I find this hilarious considering all the other dangerous things she's let me do without batting an eyelash. Parents are weird sometimes.

I think bit strips are so effing stupid.

I don't understand the point of them. Some of them are funny, but then you get the people who just make bit strips like "Katie and Sarah are watching TV." I didn't care when you were posting that crap as a status update, what makes you think I'm going to care when you turn it into an unnecessary cartoon? 🙄

I have yet to see a funny one. Even the "funny" ones lol. They are just so dumb.
