I have heard of tortoro but I thought it was some weird anime stuff. Not weird I guess, just not something I'm into. Well give me some names and I'll add them to my list.

It's a studio of Disney 🙂 I don't like anime, and I don't consider studio ghibli anime (purely my opinion). You must watch spirited away! Howls moving castle and Kiki's delivery service are fan favorites. I love all of them though!!!

Technically it is anime since it's Japanese animation. It is different from what a lot of people think of when they think of anime, I guess.

Any cool name suggestions for future impounded animals at animal control? We get to name them & ive got a running list of names for doggies and kitties. If anyone has something cool to add to it, feel free.

I once met a pug puppy named Cheez Whiz, and while staff were very split on that name, I thought it was adorable. We also had a litter of puppies all with cheese names: Cheddar, Gouda, Swiss, etc. and I thought that was cute too. Or maybe I just really like cheese...

I second the Disney/Ghibli recommendation. Star Wars, Star Trek, or any other shows/movies with unusual names work well for litters. (Or common names. No reason you couldn't use names from Friends or The Office, and I think it's cute when animals have last names.) I'm also partial to food names, as you may have already guessed.

A dog came to radiology for an ultrasound yesterday and the owner apparently was not shy about sharing that the dog will respond to it's nickname, "Little Fecker"

Guess I'll be watching Spirited Away then.

Anyone watch Lost Girl? I named a litter of kittens Bo, Dyson, Trick, & Hale the other day 😀

It's always hard to come up w names right then and there when you're trying to do so many other things during the impounded, so I have a list on my phone. It's pretty handy.
I'll add Cheez Whiz to it. Probably not little fecker though. Don't think my boss would appreciate that one.
Recently started watching the 100 so I have Octavia and Bellamy on my list now, and I named my newest foster Finn.

My favorite names are strong or dorky human names like Gertrude or David because people don't think you're talking about an animal.

I second the Disney names! My pit bull is Dory which works because she's a *******.

And my husband names everything after Pokémon or video games. We have an Eevee and a Bowser. We used to have a Kirby.

There's a big huge orange cat named David at the shelter right now, lol. So funny. Aw, Dory is cute. My dogs names are Logan (huge X men fan!) and Isla. I like names from my favorites movies and shows, or names that I like, but wouldn't name a human for whatever reason. I love the name Isla but I feel like she'd literally have to spell it all the time. And get called Iz-la. Which already happens.

I love naming little bitty puppies uneccesarily long proper names like Jonathan, Gregory, Julius, Zachariah, Archibald, etc.

It just cracks me up when they have long dumb names.
Reginald, Sir Thomas, Terrance, Cornelius, Vincent (or Vincent Nigel Murray for any Bones fans out there)... I love this

I must also add that Gregor is even better than Gregory. Find any name that was last popular 100 or more years ago and use that.

Abraham, Pierre, Waldemar, Ulysses, Charles, Ira, Cecil, Edgar, Ernest, Eugene, Marvin, Milton, Willard, Vernon...

I just love ugly names for cute animals

OMG I need a Cecil and a Carlos

Yes, yes, yes, yes. All of my future animals will have names something along these lines.

Yesss ugly names ftw! 😍

Apparently my least favorite uncle came over to my parents' house today. I was still sleeping in my room so now I'm like a damn prisoner waiting for him to leave. It's been hours. On some level it's amusing how much I dislike this family member considering he's my dad's twin (fraternal). Part of that is the dynamic he and my father share. When they're together it's like they're playing a game of who can be louder and more obnoxious. There is never a winner and everyone loses.

Adding to my list NOW.

Ahahahahahahahaha there's a news story about those toys called Hatchimals. They're supposed to say "hug me" but some people are saying when they hatched they sighed and said "**** me".

They're playing videos and I'm crying from laughter. 😆

On New Year's Eve, I helped take care of two kittens (estimated age: 12-14 days old).

The kittens had been left in an old cardboard box (taped completely shut) and abandoned in a wilderness area, along with 3 other newborn kittens. Some hikers found the box, opened it, and found the abandoned kittens. Three of the newborn kittens were dead. Not surprisingly, the two remaining kittens were suffering from hypothermia, as well as dehydration. The hikers brought the box of kittens to a ranger's post, and from there, the rangers contacted a local veterinary hospital.

To make a long story short, I had the pleasure of helping to take care of these two kittens yesterday. As soon as the kittens are healthy and well, they will be turned over to a rescue group for adoption. So, despite being left for dead in the wilderness, these two kittens will ultimately find their forever homes. 🙂

Precious babies!

I hate when people abandon kittens like that. Way to give them no chance whatsoever.

We've had people dump off boxes full of kittens and puppies all from different litters in hidden lots on animal control property where we had no realistic chance of finding the animals before they got sick or died. A lot of people reason that they'll die anyway and it doesn't matter where they dump their animals, but there is such a huge difference between a humane euthanasia and dying of dehydration/hunger/hypothermia/hyperthermia.

I'm glad you got a chance to help these kittens out, and I'm glad those hikers found them and did something about it.

As my Mom would have said, "God should bless you".

Going back to pet names:

My newest thing has been naming them after other organisms.

I named our female cat Maple, and I really wanted to name the male cat Marmot after the Vancouver Island Marmot (species endemic to BC, signify a success of ecological intervention, you learn about them in pretty much every ecology lecture around here, blah blah blah). Alas the second name was was shot down.

I want to name my next few after micro-organisms. I also have "Walrus" on the short list.

This reminded me that I also love candy and microorganism names. Marzipan, Frangipane, Mascarpone, Macaroon, Gumdrop, Mousse, Yersinia, Listeria, Bartonella, Brucella, that sort of thing.

I would sigh so heavily if I walked into a room and a pet was named Bartonella, lol.

My daughter, who named my avatar cat, wants to name the next cat "Eggplant"

I once had a silver tabby named Egg; an orange tabby named Mr Naughty, and a long-haired brown tabby named Mouse. Do not make fun! He was a mouse among mice!

I used to have a cat named Mouse too--and her sister Goat! (but they were short for mouse-stache and goatee)

My former roommate and I always thought some anatomy terms would be great pet names - such as gubernaculum (which is unfortunately the only one I remember off the top of my head).
Hahaha, reminds me of A&P this past semester...sometimes prof would let us bring out one of our kennel dogs during lecture for demonstration, and he deemed one dog "Sudoriferous"

@Goro ... a cat immunology WW game is going on in the pre-vet forum. As a cat-loving doc, you might enjoy checking it out. It's very interesting!

World at War?
I had never heard of "WW" until one of the students invited me to play in a WW game. I think WW means "werewolves" or something like that - because the bad guys in the game are called "wolves." They have a lot of special terminology, variables, etc., in the game. Just like me, you could be a WW noob, too!
