On New Year's Eve, I helped take care of two kittens (estimated age: 12-14 days old).
The kittens had been left in an old cardboard box (taped completely shut) and abandoned in a wilderness area, along with 3 other newborn kittens. Some hikers found the box, opened it, and found the abandoned kittens. Three of the newborn kittens were dead. Not surprisingly, the two remaining kittens were suffering from hypothermia, as well as dehydration. The hikers brought the box of kittens to a ranger's post, and from there, the rangers contacted a local veterinary hospital.
To make a long story short, I had the pleasure of helping to take care of these two kittens yesterday. As soon as the kittens are healthy and well, they will be turned over to a rescue group for adoption. So, despite being left for dead in the wilderness, these two kittens will ultimately find their forever homes.
