Not sure if it was that same species moth, (but a real big one like it for sure) but caught a couple bug trapping once. A labmate needed a big bug collection for an ento class so others in the lab were helping her out by catching what we could when doing other field work.

Girl I was in the field with didn't keep one of them in the kill jar quite long enough and it was only knocked out when she put it in a whirl pak. Grabbed the pak the next morning and got a little freaked when the moth suddenly started flapping inside the bag  I felt bad that it was trapped in that bag all night still alive though.

A friend of mine was involved in bug catching for a research field study thing. He knocked out a bunch of butterflies, put them in a labmate's desk drawer with the stapler and waited :meanie: Butterflies everywhere!

So there is this strange "thing" hanging around outside here in Scotland. It is kind of orangish/yellowish in color and really bright and really fecking hot. Everyone keeps saying it is the sun and they are saying how nice it is that it is out and around. I personally think the sun is drunk and needs to go home (I didn't move to Scotland because of how sunny it is ). I have spent the last two days working in this said sun and I am now burnt (my bright white skin just can't handle it).

(I think this is an indication that I might die while I am home next month).

And this is why I put all my whirl paks in the freezer.

I want a cat. 🙁 like, really really want one. I wish I could have my cat from my parents but my stepmon would be very sad and my roomate would be very upset.

Friday was my last day working at the local shelter. I filled out paperwork to volunteer in medical (hang out with the sick iso cats) but they do not offer insurance incase I get injured or bit. I am sad but I just can't risk it because I don't have insurance right now.

The fact that I start my new job tomorrow just hit me. AHHHHHHHH. :scared:

HOLY. FREAKIN. CRAP.

Has anyone ever been to the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago? Is it any good?

Thinking about going next weekend during AVMA convention. Glad you asked this 🙂

Unfortunately I won't be going to Chicago anytime soon. My boyfriend will be there for at least 2 weeks for work, that lucky duck. Have fun at the convention!

Edit: Just noticed my 2 year member badge, woot!

i'm so so so so so so so so sad about cory monteith 🙁

Agreed. It is very unfortunate. Celebs found dead in hotel rooms rarely comes back as "death by natural causes" 🙁 I feel so sad for Lea Michele and his family and friends... Very very sad 🙁

Thanks! I was hired at a private practice near my house. Not in Gville yet, hoping to move at end of the year. 🙂

it's just a sad scenario all around.. like heath ledger. how tragic, truly.

My roomate accidentally sent me an extremely racy text message that was very clearly not intended for me.

Obviously he OMG'd and told me to disregard it. I can't help but find it hilarious because now he won't even look at me. Hahaha. Poor guy.

I think I will be getting a hedgehog when I move away for school. I want some type of small animal to keep my company and I've always been fascinated with hedgehogs and love what I'm learning about their personalities. I'll be living alone for the first time ever and will be leaving my boyfriend, dog, and cat behind approximately 270 km (170 mi) away, so some type of company is essential.
Now, for my random question:

Would faculty and other students look down on me or see it negatively if I were to own an exotic pet?

I thought about getting a kitten but I'm not ready for the 15 year commitment and I would have a hard time finding an older cat with the cat personality that I like. I'd take my cat with me but I don't think he'd adjust well to apartment life and I'm too close to a busy road.

Why would anyone look down on you for owning a hedgehog? I can't even wrap my head around that question lol 😛

For owning an exotic pet. I know it sounds silly but someone else brought it to my attention and made me wonder.

I have never heard of anything at all regarding that. I don't think there's anything wrong, in the slightest, with owning a hedgie. 🙂

Or a ferret, bird, snake, mouse, rat, or fish for that matter.

Hedgies are awesome! I don't think anyone would look down on you for having one. A lot of people would probably think it's cool. If you do get one make sure to get it from a good source since they are pretty prone to illness. Of my six hedgies I've had three ended up with cancer. They really are great pets as long as you take the time to socialize them.

I don't think anyone would look down on you, so long as you provided appropriate care and such like any other animal deserves. There's a girl in the year ahead of me that owns a couple of hedgehogs. I can give you her name in PM if you want it 🙂

Hedgie, I PM'd you
TRH: I would love to chat with a current hedgie owner.

One of our barn cats gave me a mini heart attack this morning...I was crouched down, putting some polo wraps on a horse when a bird came down from the rafters and landed on my shoe. This startled me a little. A second later there was our cat sitting on my shoe, bird in mouth. I may have squealed in surprise.

wld reminded me that not everywhere is NV where everything is legal. That totally makes sense about exotics possibly being frowned upon.

I tried texting Abs every animal that is illegal to own in California. It was too long. Basically in California if it is a wild animal somewhere in the world, it is most likely illegal to own.

Yep. Ferrets, skunks, raccoons, lots of others, all illegal. However, there are far fewer restrictions on smallish herps and birds. I don't know about hedgies, but the exact legal text governing pet ownership is fairly easy to read and can be found online.

Hedgehogs are illegal in California. Most of the birds that are illegal are native.

Hedgehogs are illegal in the town next to me. You can have them everywhere else in Nebraska. I never quite understood the logic.

Hedgehogs are legal in PEI, NS and NB (and all throughout Canada I believe) so I'm good there. Thanks everyone for your input.

Doubt it. I totally want one but their illegal in PA. Supposedly, once I'm a vet, I can own one in Philly (so I'm hoping elsewhere as well) but this is per a recent grad. Haven't actually looked in it yet. If that's the case, I'm getting myself one as a grad present.

It is time for me to get some fresh ink.

I just have a hard time justifying the money
