Good news/Bad news
Good news: I found out today that I can put contacts in and take them out! Yay! I tried about ten years ago or so to switch from glasses to contacts (I've been wearing glasses since I was six months old - and no, that's not a typo) but it was an enormous failure. I had an appointment today and it all went pretty smoothly.
Bad news: I managed to lose one of my trial lenses within about a half hour of getting home. I realized that when I put them in the second time at the clinic, I had gotten them switched around. So I went to switch them back, and promptly dropped the left one. 😳 So it's back to glasses until Monday morning.

Did it take your eyes time to adjust to the contacts? Like was your vision instantly corrected when you put them in? When I tried to make the switch, I had to let my eyes adjust and there aren't hour long blocks in my day where I can be fuzzy-sighted...

It was pretty much instant. Mentally it was an adjustment. My brain couldn't quite cope with the idea that I was seeing clearly, but there was nothing on my face. As I was driving home, even with the left-in-right and right-in-left lenses, my vision was pretty good, and it felt wrong to be driving without my glasses on. Like I'd left the house without pants on or something.
I can only imagine how weird it would be!

Just watched the sneak peek for Once Upon a Time Season 3.....super excited! 😀
There isn't a version on youtube that isn't filmed with a handheld....but it's on their FB page for anyone interested in watching it. 👍

I just won 10lbs of sausage in a raffle. Oh, and $50 off agility classes for my dog at the local top-notch facility. But who cares, right? SAUSAGE!
...is it wrong that all I can think about is how much $$$ this raffle win saves us on grocery bills this month??

It is totally ok to be excited about that! I've been trying to be a bit more conscious of where I get my food from and was super excited Sunday night to win a $25 giftcard to our Earthfare store. Admittedly, that doesn't buy as much as it would at Kroger, but that's still lots of saving money and getting great food!
Especially the cheese. Hmmm. So good there.
Zuku decided to send me the VTNE question today...and they got the answer wrong...😎
For anyone interested in exotics, I thought this interesting supraglottic ET-tube alternative was really cool:

Never seen anything like this, thought it was a really interesting idea especially for exotics and animals like rabbits that are crazy hard to intubate.

at least they figured out the right answer, picked a question consistent with the NAVLE, and found the right decade!
Hi, I am 15 and i'm a sophmore in high school. I don't plan on becoming a vet as a career but I would like to work (or volunteer) as a veterinary assistant through high school, then maybe while I'm in college. So my question is... How should I go about asking for a job/volunteer position at a veterinary office & what do you think of this course (www.ed2go.com/online-courses/become-a-veterinary-assistant) do you think it will prepare me for working as a veterinary assistant? Thanks!!!

Woke up at 7:30 this morning, tried to go back to sleep but couldn't. So I figured since our first midterm is monday I should start studying. Read a packet on bovine mastitis...and fall right back asleep

Those are awesome!
Dear diary,
6 weeks on the prescription diet flew by. I initially saw some improvement, but after we paid a visit to a family member's ranch/property for four days about 3/4 of the way through, my dog developed patches of folliculitis and erupted in itchiness. We ventured out again just this weekend and he's since been itching like crazy ever since. Super discouraging 🙁 What's worse is that antihistamines haven't been very effective...like, at all.
I think I knew all along that food allergies weren't the sole issue, if even an issue at all--it would have been the easiest fix for me to just put him on a special diet and call it good. Wishful thinking. The next step is probably skin and/or blood tests, and I'm thinking immunotherapy is on the horizon. Sigh. I'm reluctant to tap into my "doggie emergency fund" because this isn't what I envisioned it to be used for. I was thinking a broken limb or toxicity... Which is still liable to happen, of course. 🙄 Maybe even more likely, according to Murphy's Law.

there are some great options out there if needed. Talk to you vet about the allergy shots, they even have oral immunotherapy now (though not as effective), and something like atopica.

I've been hearing whispers of this oral immunotherapy and I'm curious! I have yet to ask my dermatologist about it. Unless there's a huge cost difference, I'm open to either.

from what I hear, you can't taper like you can with the shots. But may be worth it!

Sounds like me and my dog right now. We start the food trial next month once I can order the Purina HA from the program. If it doesn't work, off to Derm we go for all that jazz. If he gets diagnosed with atopy, I'm considering looking into a trial going on at Penn for a vaccine. Not sure if I'll do it, but it's a possible option.
Need some ideas from my SDNers!
There are some subjects I need to study alone, but I need to study in silence. My roommate is having people over all the time to study in our living room. I try to study in my room, but I can't concentrate while being able to hear their whole conversation, and I can't study with music or the TV on. Tried ear plugs and my ears are killing me. I would leave, except I feel bad that my dog is here all day while I'm at school and I don't want to leave her to go study too. Any ideas of an indoor (weather-proof) quiet place I can study with my dog? Really frustrated that I just wasted a night of fruitlessly trying to study here.

Stb, have you tried noise canceling head phones? I've heard good things about them but don't know how expensive they are.
You may have to ask your roommate to compromise - she can have people over for a certain amount of time and then she needs to kick them out. Or ask if she would mind them meeting at the library on certain nights.
Definitely a perk for living alone!

How much do you mind looking kind of odd? If you don't mind, I'd suggest a pair of sound blocking earmuffs (like one of these). I can't suggest a specific one, but I feel you on earplugs - they hurt like a mofo after an hour or two.
edit: redhead beat me to it!

Or ask roommate to have her study group alternate whose place they study at- so that they are not always at your apartment. I am sure they all have places where they live too that they can get the group together at.
Got a 94 on my first chem test... Sad it's not 100... But feeling okay about it.

Weird......I had a request from a random dude from Nigeria late last week.
I have a friend that is a friend-hoarder and will add anyone and everyone.....she's since been unfriended on FB because her random friends would add others on her list and I was tired of random requests. I just don't get the point.

Random weirdos keep on asking to join our class's Facebook group. I have ignored more people in the last two months than I did in the first two years...
