I don't understand this:

This is what people around here do when snow has been forecasted. No joke. (Although I'm all like, "Cat food! Dog treats! Gotta get the dog food!" hahahaha)

Decided to draw some simple animal profiles on my interviewer's thank you notes. Possibly went overboard, but I was having fun! Still need to do 6 more and I'm thinking: cougar, alligator, eagle/hawk/falcon, horse, rhino, and raccoon. (I really like N. American wildlife, if it isn't obvious.) I drew a cat, which isn't pictured, so maybe I should do a dog to complement it? Or it probably doesn't really matter...

Wow, you're really talented! Those look awesome.

Yes, yes, the rhino is a wonderful example of N. American wildlife

@that redhead

I'm sitting in a business/salaries of vet med lecture right now. AVC came up because we were talking about students going other places and the fact that Americans can attend AVC and OVC.

Guess what the prof thought you were paying for tuition? $15K.

Then he said I was wrong when I mentioned $55K being more accurate.

So then I had to pull up the website for 1st year costs estimates.

Then he said that the fees associated with being international are a lot higher, so it's not all tuition per se.

:smack:

Uh no. It's tuition. It's my understanding that the tuition is technically 55k for Canadians as well but the government covers most of it leaving their out of pocket tuition as about 10k.

Yep, that's pretty much it the way it works. Which why I can't go to school anywhere that Alberta doesn't pay for seats at (in Canada anyway).

Controls the market to a degree I guess.

Thought you guys might enjoy that though. I mean really....check your facts. SDN'ers are fairly informed people in regards to other schools. 😉

 Good for you on catching him! It's definitely like $55k of tuition alone :barf:

If he really believes that Americans only pay 15K, I'll happily accept a check for the difference.

I think in a way our tuition is technically 15K and the rest is the "International Student Fee". But either way, we are definitely paying 55K to be here.

is that just tuition (and fees)?? or does that include COL too??

Well, it was particularly funny because I believe the sentence went kind of like this....

"So they are quite fortunate because they can apply to Cornell, UC Davis, etc and UPEI...and if they do go to UPEI then they're actually paying less than what they would in the U.S."

🤣

Seriously. I get that there aren't many (lol well, pretty much zero) regular western Canadians on here, but people over here sometimes have no clue about any other school in Canada and particularly in the U.S. It's like we're in this little bubble of UCVM/WCVM and no one knows much outside of that. So when I said that I turned down K-State to try and get off the waitlist here by re-applying, their jaws hit the floor when I said tuition was $44k/yr. They just have no idea. Which also makes me shake my head whenever someone complains about the $10k tuition here.

Mind you, I feel like I'm doing too much enlightening lately, because I had to inform my former pre-vet advisor at my alma mater (in Minnesota) that USU, LMU and Midwestern now exist. SDN just does a lot to keep you up to date in the world, you know? Love it.

Exactly. Fewer spiders.
nahh i dont usually see spiders around here and if i do they're really little. lots of grasshoppers, crickets, froggies, nothing too crazy 😀
Mmm-hmm.

JMO, how many dives have you done now?
i've logged 84 dives now 🙂 about to start my divemaster course soon!

My attempt at banana pancakes failed miserably. I ended up with something that looked more like scrambled egg. My bird was still chowing down though. @orca2011, help! I think my banana to egg ratio was off a bit.

I understand that the Atlantic Canadians only get this school to apply to in-country and that I "chose" to come here (I did, but I didn't have a cheaper option either) but still...please do not complain about money/debt in my vicinity.

Did you use 1 regular sized RIPE banana and TWO large eggs? And beat really really really well?

my canadian roommate's father is paying her tuition in full for here. she was complaining about how scary debt and repayment were last weekend. it took a lot of will power not to smack her.

No idea yet. I actually might try them again for dinner, so I'll let you know how it goes.

@TooLove

Success!! I used two eggs this time. I also added a bit of peanut butter and a tiny bit of protein powder to make them a little more filling.

Hello all 🙂 I've been on SDN for a while but haven't been around much, so I decided to reappear and reintroduce myself. I'm a zoology nerd, I horseback ride, I'm doing undergrad research with parakeets, I'm in my second semester of o-chem (pray for me...), and I am a lover of puns and corny jokes.

Looking forward to chatting with and getting to know all you lovely people. 🙂 Also, I'm just going to leave this little gem here...

Has anyone ever been to the Firefly Music Festival in Dover, DE?

I really want to go this year, but I'm not sure if I'm too old. haha I'll be 30 (Mr. Philliab will be almost 32), and we aren't big party people. I love music and am a huge Outkast fan (hubby is a huge Foo Fighters fan) so I want to go. Now don't get me wrong...I can party, but I'm not the "drink all day, party all night" person anymore.

So...anyone been that can give me some advice?

Heck, I'm 24 and I'm not the "drink all day, party all night" type anymore. Maybe I could do it if I practiced for like a week but a hangover takes me like 1.5 half days to get over.

I'm sure it's like many other festivals/concerts where you have a mix of people who attend. I'd like to go myself and might still look into it.

Thanks, orca! I'm the exact same way. Not sure if its in the cards this year, because its so expensive. But I keep reminding myself how much tickets would be if I went to a single concert for each artist I like. I really want to go. 🙂

Hmm, that's a good way to look at it actually. Especially when you factor in all this random "processing fees" that end up costing more than the actual ticket...

Seriously. I just got tickets to Bruno Mars in July, and it was almost $50/each just for lawn seats.
