This is the worst feeling. I've come close to passing out a couple of times, but I've only actually done it once, during a dental of all things. I hadn't eaten and I'd been on my feet all day. I ended up flat on the surgery room floor. I didn't hit anything on the way down, which was good, but my pride was definitely injured.
Yeah the one thing that has put me on the floor is a dental extraction.

Was holding the mouth, realized it was going downhill, someone took over, I tried to save my dignity and walk across the room to sit by the supply cabinet. Ended up blacking out into the supply room door.

Lessons learned: don't try to save pride. Also I will never specialize in dentristry

Passed out and gave myself a black eye during a neuter today.

I felt it coming, excused myself from surgery, went and sat down and passed out. Fun times.

Seen and participated in a bunch of surgeries but today just wasn't my day apparently. Hahaha
I can't help but smile to myself when I read your post. Many students pass out - it happens a lot - so you have joined a huge club. Show your shiner with pride. 🙂

I'm pretty sure there is an entire thread about passing out during surgery, and I'm pretty sure the person who started the thread is now a doctor.
There's also a similar thread that was started by me when I first joined SDN. Woot woot.

I was curious how many hours you work during 4th-year clinical rotations? My vet mentioned it was 100+ and I was like woah! I'm just curious 🙂
40-60 depending on the service. Oncology was closer to 40. Surgery and medicine were closer to 60+.

I couldn't find the original one I was thinking about.

Why you gotta make me relive my SDN noob days

You don't even know how to noob!

I never passed out for surgery, but I had the pleasure of seeing some rather stinky necropsies first and I think those were way worse. Those made me feel fainty AND nauseated! I have felt fainty a couple times in practice, but more because boss man sets the thermostat to 78 in the summer and I'm gowned and gloved with the hat and the mask... yeah, I can't get that warm and feel okay about it. We have some disagreements about the thermostat now, and I have a fan blowing up my gown in surg.

Not related, but still pretty random:

So I'm sitting on my bed, still in my pj's perusing SDN when I see two horses walking through my back yard, with no people. I grabbed my dog's long line and ran out the door and started walking calmly up to the two horses, one looked youngish so I'm assuming a mare are her foal. The foal (had to at least be a year old, but I'm no expert) approached me, so I fashioned the leash like a neck lead and gently lead her back down to where the horse farms are, the mare followed us closely. I could only get them to go towards the one farm, so that's the way we went. We walked around for a while looking for anyone to be home, but no luck. I tried to get them in one paddock but they refused. Finally I see another paddock with the gate open and I was able to lead the younger one right in, but the mare didn't want to follow. So I put the lead around her and got her to go in too. I really hope they are their horses.

Is there something wrong with me that I can't continuously be around people. This weekend was obviously loaded with family and I'm exhausted. Two weekends prior we had a family gathering at my aunt's house where I ended up coming home super sick. Had to delay my trip a few hours but finally went on my vacation. The following weekend my aunt had another family thing that I politely declined going to... I had to work earlier that day, we just got back from vacation and the following day was a work party + my sister's litter of children coming over to decorate cookies. Plus the following weekend being this past weekend meaning more people and people exhaust me. Apparently my aunt pitched some fit that for one day, I just didn't want to do anything. Is there something inherently wrong with me for this?

You sound exactly like me. I can only do two hours tops with a bunch of people in the same room and then I HAVE to go hide. There's even been days at school where being in a classroom with vet students all day was too much for me.

There's sadly still a lot of misinformation on exactly what introversion is. It's not a face value of just being shy or quiet--it's merely a difference in the way some people handle interatcions with others. Introverts can be outgoing, or not. It literally just means interactions take energy from you, while extroverts gain energy from others. Its just your personality and anyone in your life who thinks or says there is anything *wrong* with that needs some psychology classes.

If not somebody just got free horses

I'm going to go leave a note in their mailbox. They went in that paddock really easy, while they refused to go in the other, so I think that is a good sign that is where they belong.

With many of the horses I know, that would be a sign you put them where they wanted to go, not necessarily where they were supposed to go! Haha

Very true, but I doubt they'd want to go into the other neighbor's paddock with horses they didn't know. The foal went right over and had a long drink too, so she seemed familiar with where everything was.

I'm actually not a fan of Star Wars at all (I didn't even know who Carrie Fisher was until a couple of days ago); I'm more sad about Richard Adams' death. Watership Down is legit my favorite novel. 🙁
Oh man I hadn't seen that. 🙁

My brother is the same way. People exhaust him in general, but young kids are 10x worse. We love him anyway.

Nah man people are the worst

Isn't this just called being an introvert. I have many close friends that can only handle a good healthy dose of people before they are exhausted.

I know I'm very introverted, but my aunt was seriously offended about me taking one day of one weekend this month to myself. It wasn't even the full day, just from 3pm when I got off work to when my sister showed back up at the house around 6pm.

Watership Down is one of my absolute favourite books.. But Star Wars is one of my top favorites too. Only a week left of 2016 and the year continues on as its horid self....

Pfttt... that's her problem. Especially sense it's one half day. Sorry but she needs to get over it. You need your own time don't let her get to you.

I lost my phone last night while putting the kids to bed. I looked for an hour and then went and passed out.

Heard the alarm this morning, but still couldn't find the damn thing. The very faint buzz sounded like it was in the walls.

Gave up and went to work. I felt so alone without the ability to escape my job by wandering in here.

Got home and spent the last 5 hours looking for my phone and going through all the laundry in the house (sound was faint. Makes sense, right?)

Gave up. Started getting the kids ready for bed... MY PHONE! It was on top of the shelf where the kids toothbrushes are kept. I lost it between getting them dressed and brushing teeth. I looked in the bathroom so many times, but never thought to look inside the medicine cabinet.

Anyway, I missed you guys!

And you missed a lot in the Bar.

Also why didn't you just have someone call your phone

I did. The ringer was off. My only hope was the alarm this morning. Even then, the phone was at 8% when I lost it last night soooooo.... calling it too much would have lost me the chance at finding it with the alarm this morning.

Sort of a rant, sort of me eye rolling. Selling a dresser on Craigslist; have the time and handoff ready to go, that I'll be here with the dresser etc. Guy emails saying that it'll only be him and "will there be someone else to help do the heavy lifting?"

Me, boo. I can do heavy lifting. I was heavy lifting with one hand when I moved a week after hand surgery *snaps fingers in Z formation*

Sounds like HE needs to bring someone to help. Gotta be hard moving that ego around...

Pregnancy brain?

Pregnancy brain?
The babe sometimes likes to drain all the energy from my body until I barely function and all I want in the whole world is sleep. Yesterday was one of those nights. I fell asleep 2 or 3 times from 5-8pm.

Hubby slipped on ice with about 100 lbs of feed slung over one shoulder a week ago. He has been using that as an excuse to do nothing but play video games in a position I know isn't kind to a hurt back... but I am still waddling myself around the house and farm doing EVERYTHING until he feels better. (I'm suspecting he will heal up about the time he finishes FFXV. I think he has started to suspect that too and that is why he keeps taking breaks to play other games for a while or watch football)

Any cool name suggestions for future impounded animals at animal control? We get to name them & ive got a running list of names for doggies and kitties. If anyone has something cool to add to it, feel free.

Dunno if this works for Apple products, but at least for Android if you have your google account synced and search "where's my phone?" in google via laptop, you can tell it to bypass current sound settings and ring for you. Saves my butt constantly.

There's an app that does this on iPhone ("Where's My Iphone"). Totally saved me more times times I would like to admit.
