So rank list have been submitted.
Interested in Hemepath/Molecular from LI, NY.

figured id post mine.

1) UTSW-loved the program, PD seemed very supportive of residents, excellent research opurtunities, electives can be done anywhere. (hemepath and molecular fellowship)
2) Baylor-thought the program was solid, loved Houston, can do electives at MD Anderson, Methodist. (hemepath and molecular fellowship)
3) Northwestern-Chicago is a great city, but cold, strong program getting stronger with additional fellowship, best hospital I interviewed at.(hemepath and molecular fellowship is being developed)
4) USF-Went to undergrad at USF, worked at TGH for 3 years in the lab, great group of pathologists, most rotations are at Moffitt Cancer Center (a top 5 cancer center), and one of the larger VAs in the nation, cant beat Tampa for weather and cost of living. (hemepath and molecular fellowship at MCC)
5) NYU-more AP focused, felt they had a strong group of residents (heme path fellowship only)
6) Rochester (NY)-great all around program, cheap cost of living, Rochester is a smaller city than I like, and cold/snowy, did like that they had a basketball court in the hospital.
7) Stony Brook-lower (volume 20,000 surgical a year) than I like but I think a solid program, (hemepath only fellowship)
8) Montefiore-great pathology, PD and chair are nice, trying to develop a curriculm where fourth year is a mini-fellowship. (hemepath and molecular fellowship)

Interviewed at Bufallo, SUNY-Upstate, and Northwell NS-LIJ but decided not to rank them as they didnt feel like a good fit for me.

Can't wait till match day.

My ROL was as follows:

1) Cleveland Clinic (I have always worked on a one day cycle even when I was a Pathologist back home, the blocks are two weeks each, the huge numbers of surgical pathology specimens made me salivate, it had both my favorite subspecialty fellowships, and I wanted to train with big name pathologists whose books I have been reading for 6 years now. The job prospects of my spouse also helped in ranking Rochester lower. Btw it did not appear to be "toxic", "malignant' and other words that have been used to describe the program in scutwork or in feedbacks by few senior pathologists on this website. The new PD is super energetic and supportive )
2) Mayo Clinic (I had a tough time deciding between the first two. They are almost equal in most areas, most seniors felt, MC is better but in the end, for me, all of it boiled down to fresh grossing Vs fixed grossing, one day cycle Vs a different kinda cycle, and my spouse's career)
3) University of Pittsburg Medical Center (One word to describe this program is flexibility! Mini-fellowships are an exciting new concept! High volumes, full spectrum of fellowships, and resident tailored training)
4) Yale University (Big name, good volumes, and fellowships. For long I had been hearing about the long hours that the residents had to put in grossing but the program is completely changed now. It is a lot more flexible and has a 4-day cycle with the 4th day being a "rest day" or "academic day")
5) UT Southwestern (This is a very good program with lots of fellowships and good volume. It felt a lot like the UPMC of the south as far as flexibility and resident tailored approach is concerned. The weather was awesome! However, it does not have adequate caseload in few AP subspecialties that I am interested in, hence I had to rank it lower)
6) National Institute of Health (This is a unique program. The surgical pathology caseload is just 8000 which is not adequate by any means. Still a big name and famous pathologists. Rotations of about 6-8 months at Johns Hopkins gives a good audition opportunity for fellowships. Most residents end up with great fellowships although there are very few in-house. Ranked lower coz of my interest in clinical > research career)
7) Albert Einstein/Montefiore (NYC and fellowship options; cheap housing in NYC @ $600 is too lucrative 😀 )
8) University of Minnesota
9) Ohio State University
10) University of Wisconsin
11) Medical College of Wisconsin
12) SUNY Upstate
13) SUNY Downstate
14) University at Buffalo
15) Hartford Hospital
16) Hofstra Northwell, Staten Island
17) Danbury Hospital

I applied to a lot of places, interviewed at a lot of places (despite dropping more than half my interviews), and kept different tiers of programs in my list (with the lower ranks in the NY/Connecticut area for my spouse's job prospects) as being a non-US IMG, I was quite anxious during the entire process (and still am until the Matchday). I don't regret though. This was my best shot. If I don't match, next flight back home 😀
