Hey all,

Coming down to the wire and I've yet to really have a clear favorite. Quite frustrated and uncertain!!! :scared: I want to do a child and adolescent fellowship and location is huge for me. So I've narrowed it down to these programs. How would you rank these programs? Opinions, comments and any help strongly appreciated.

UCLA-SFV
Harbor-UCLA
UCSD
UCI
Cambridge
Mt. Sinai
St Luke's Roosevelt

(my gut says that I prefer Mt Sinai and Harbor-UCLA less than the others... but no clear favorite amongst the others... help!)

FWIW,

Child fellowship grads from Harbor-UCLA (out of 7 residents per class):

2005-06: UCLA-NPI, Harbor x2
2004-05: Harbor x2
2003-04: USC (completed, now doing forensic fellowship in NY)
2002-03: 0

Cambridge sends them all over for child fellowships. Don't have the numbers.

Don't know about the other programs.

Cheers
-AT.

Yikes!!! 1 more day!!!

I'm having a tough time ranking the following programs. Please give opinions. I'm going to do a child fellowship for sure.

Don't know about the others, but if you're looking for a child fellowship, it's hard to go wrong with Cambridge.

I'm a Californian gone to med school in NY. I guess since 60% of residents end up practicing in the same area where they go to residency, my question is: what are the political/administrative/legal/financial pros and cons of practicing psychiatry in Boston vs. NYC vs. Cali?

I'm completely oblivious and wish I had gotten more input on this.... but hey, they don't call it "last minute" if we don't use it.

It's ultimately city dependent more than state dependent. Boston, NYC, LA, and San Francisco are all areas that are saturated with psychiatrists, so pay tends to be lower than other areas (even within those states - most areas of MA outside of Boston are actually underserved for psychiatry).
Once you're looking within the city, you're either looking at private practice (where there's probably not much difference between cities) or academics. If you're looking at academics, then you often end up weighing reputation vs. salary, since the more prestigious institutions (Harvard, Columbia, UCLA) will pay less for the privilige of working there.
In all of these cities, psychiatry tends to be well-respected, with significantly less stigma than other regions in the country.
