I realize that this will be perfectly useless info since there are so many individual differance variables involved here, but i am going to ask anyway.

For those of you who have already taken the prereqs, how would you rank them with regards to difficulty? (you can make up your own definition of difficulty since it is so multifaceted).

Thanks

hah, i like you already acknowledged that this will be perfectly useless 🙂

in increasing difficulty
physics lab
bio lab
organic lab
chem lab

in increasing difficulty
physics
bio
chem
organic

hope that's useful, haha

In increasing difficulty:

Lab:
Bio
Physics
OChem
Chem

Lecture:
Bio
Physics
Ochem
Chem

One more opinion here:

Increasing difficulty

Lab
Physics
Bio
Chem
Organic

Lecture
Bio
Physics
Chem
Organic

For me:

Lab:
Physics
Bio
OChem
GChem

Lecture:
Bio
OChem
GChem
Physics

I don't like math.

It really depends on the person and the teacher. Classes can be difficult because the teacher is poor, or because the teacher simply makes the tests/assignments difficult. Likewise classes can be easier because the teacher is good, or simply easy because the tests/assignments are easy.

If you're asking this question to decide which classes to take together, I can definitely say to NOT take Organic Chemistry and Biology together. They're doable seperately, but they will kick your ass if you take them together. Take either one with physics and you'll be in a much better situation.

Wait is taking bio and chem at the same time really that hard? I mean nearly everyone i've known has had to take bio and chem during the same semester. Wouldn't you have to in order to get classes in correctly?

Yeah, if that's what you are asking I agree with the guy above me. I thought both Orgo and Bio were really easy, but they are the most memorization out of the 4. Physics and Gen Chem are more just learning equations and intuition of how to attack problems. If you are good at physics, you can get by with only a little studying. It doesn't matter if you are good at bio or not, you still have to memorize what's in the book. That's how it was for me at least, YMMV.

I was going to put physics as the most difficult lecture. But then I remembered hearing that the Physics most pre-meds take is a joke in comparison to the calc based course. As such, my listing would be like apples and oranges 🙁

Easiest: Organic chem
Second easiest: general chem
Third place: bios(but there are so many biology courses so it varies
Most difficult for me: Physics (I hate learning it, it annoys me, etc)
Also,
taking a bio like biochem and organic 2 is a really good idea in my opinion. I did it, and they really reinforced concepts together. A lot of the biochem had to do with chirality, decarboxylating, etc which helps with organic 2 at the same time.
Good luck

Good point. Engineering/calc based physics is a different ordeal all together. I think the basic physics class is good for the MCAT though.

Agreed!

1. Organic
2. Organic
3. Organic
(i went to a quarter school, so i had it thrice)

It also depends on your particular school, of course...

Lab (in increasing order):
Bio (ours was a JOKE!!)
Physics
Chemistry
Orgo (largely for the stress factor, though....our prof was an ogre)

Lecture:
Bio
Chem
Physics (Non-calc and proud of it! 😎 )
Orgo

In my case,

Lab
1. Orgo (hard!)
2. Bio
3. Gen Chem
4. Physics (very easy)

Lecture
1. Bio
2. Orgo
3. Gen Chem
4. Physics (I was a Physics minor)
