Although we all know dent schools are not ranked, if you had to rank them as an unbiased source...how would you rank US dent schools? Top programs? Worst programs? Lets keep this tactful guys

I'm gonna steer away from this one. First on what basis, every school has something special to offer, some do better in boards, some have a reputation for producing great clinicians, others focus on grooming leaders, others have research graduation requirements, some are cheaper yet they offer a competetive education, graduation rates, postgraduate ed. of choice, rigor of curri. etc. Where are you going with this, I foresee more harm than good?

I also don't think SDN is a representative sample to garner an unbiased ranking of US dental schools. Again you probably meant an intrinsic rather than extrinsic bias.

What do you mean they are not ranked? When I went to school they were ranked. The problem was that the ranking was based on how much money they spent on research. I believe Harvard was first, UCSF second, the one I went to was 13th I think, and UOP was 34( about).

Right, the ranking system was hopelessly screwed up, and the dental schools collectively ganged up on the ranking agencies and "persuaded" them to stop publishing the rankings. Better for everybody, I say 😀

In the big scheme of things, where you went ot school, if your a DMD or a DDS, it DOESN'T matter, and frankly 95+% of your patients don't care, and won't ask. I'm sure that Thisisit will back me up on this. Maybe once or twice a month I'll get asked where I went to school( and between hygiene checks and my own patients, I probably see over 300 individual mouths each month) My wife just added that she has about the same # of folks asking her each month, and in her ortho practice, she's seeing about 750 or so mouths a month. Your patients just know that the school you went to(wherever that is) has to be the best, since you're the greatest dentist in the world😀

Also, on the entire DMD vs DDS thread that is going concurrently. I was thinking back about how many times someone has asked me (seriously) what DMD stands for, and it's only been once that I can recall in almost 7 years. It was actually about 3 weeks after I graduated, my wife and I were on our honeymoon in Hawaii. I was playing golf one morning at Kapalua(for you golfers out there you have to sometime play the Plantation Course there - the same one you'll see on TV this week for the PGA Tours Mercedes Champuionship), and I was buying a Kapalua Golf shirt after my round, and when I gave the cashier my credit card she asked me "what's a DMD?" That's the only serious time I've been asked that I can recall.

Remember, your patients just know that your the greatest dentist out there!
