Don't forget that residency placement statistics are a reflection of where people from a given school apply. It is always best to see the actual match list from a school to see if they are placing into the type of programs you may be interested in pursuing, with regards to the field of medicine, geographic location, and type of program (academic, top tier, community based). Probably students from a second tier school aren't all going to be applying to MGH, UCSF, or JHU (etc.), while people from top medical schools will often be applying to those type of residency programs or specialities that are highly competitive.
