Thank you all very much for your kind words. They set funeral services for Friday at 10:00.... I have an anatomy practical at 1:00 :poke:
Not sure how they would do a makeup for that, but I'm going to ask tomorrow. Still not sure if I'll make it since flights are $600 🙄
Wish I was still in NY so I could drive over 🙁.

My grandmother's funeral services are on Saturday and there is just no way I can get there (PEI-> Atlanta is over $1000 airfare), especially with an exam tomorrow and one on Monday. I'm going to send some flowers to be delivered so I'm there in spirit- maybe you could do the same?

Sorry to hear about your Grandma, redhead 🙁. I've decided there is just no way I will be able to go and my family is telling me I'm crazy for even trying. I will be sending flowers and eating a ring of shrimp cocktail on Friday instead (YUCK - but it was his favorite 🙂). My BF ordered flowers to be sent to the funeral home without my knowledge 😍 and even got him a red, white, and blue arrangement bc they were both in the Navy and used to have Navy story time for hours 😀. Have I told anyone lately how much I love my boyfriend? 😉😍
Thoughts to you and your family, redhead. 🙁

Emiloo - really sorry to hear that you won't be able to go.
I wonder if someone at the service could set up an online streaming so you could sorta be there. If it's at a church they may even have the technology set up already.

I'm so sorry Emiloo and redhead 🙁 ... Thoughts and prayers being sent to both of your families.

🙁 So verry sorry, redhead. If there's anything I can do, just let me know, kay?

*hugs* to you and redhead. My grandfather passed away this month as well, and I missed the initial memorial, and will be missing the memorial service as well. It is no fun!

My dad is making me get rid of Samson after he's been here for about three weeks. My heart is breaking. I love this dog so much. I just don't have the resources right now to move out with Sam and the cats. I can't stop crying. Sammy is going to hate me so much. For all those midwest folks out there: if you or anyone you know want a mastiff I have a super awesome one and I'm willing to drive him wherever he needs to get a home.

🙁 So sad. I wish I could take him. My roommate is an anti-dog d-bag. How is he around the house? Does he eat random things. Why is your dad getting rid of him? 🙁

He's great in the house. He's quiet--doesn't bark at random things outside. He doesn't chew up things. Doesn't go in the trash. Basically my dad got upset because Samson wouldnt come in right away this morning and then he had an accident in the house this afternoon. It's little stupid stuff and he's handling it poorly but I can't really argue since he's letting me live there rent free.

My boyfriends mother had their golden ( 10 -11 years) euthanized today. I'm upset because they didn't even tell me he was ill. He was lethargic and had decreased appetite for several days. He was in last week for his annual exam and vaccines. They took him back today and the vet said " he is old and has just used up all his energy" ... WTF. I really don't like they vet they use now (used to take them where I worked but $ is an issue). The bf's mom has had a rough week, her mom died 2 days ago.

Why wouldn't you talk to your sons girlfriend who is in vet school and knows the dog, about him feeling bad?!?!? I know I'm not a vet, but I could have helped them make an informed decision.

AGE IS NOT A DISEASE! He had no chronic illness and was deemed healthy 1 week ago. And what kind of vet tells someone their dog used up all his energy as a reason to euthanize?

😡😡😡😡

The youth ice hockey league that I end up officiating for most often is now requiring each coach to rate the officials in the game after each game. On Saturday, there was a coach who from the moment I stepped out on the ice had already judged me as incompetent (I wish I could say I didn't have a feeling that it was because I am female, but......) and essentially treated me that way the whole game and gave me very, very low ratings in pretty much all categories except for 'appearance' and 'attitude'. The coach of the other team (who was on the losing end of a 7-2 score!) was much more fair about it and gave pretty accurate (midrange-it was my very first game as a solo referee and my linesmen were these kids who aren't real good...) ratings IMO. I'm pretty annoyed by this idiot coach and don't know what to do about it.

i guess it's a good practice for the demoralization that I'm sure will be senior year... 🙁

She hates vets but uses veterinary resources like journals and textbooks for a lot of her info. I wasn't aware that I went through an entire oncology course and didn't learn how to treat cancer...🙄

Of course not. We were educated by *****s....

(btw, Congrats!)

I loved that she thinks "diagnostic tools" are just another term for drugs. Um no... those would be things that we do BEFORE we give drugs. Diagnostics tools would help you figure out why the hell your dog is vomiting bile, not treat it. If I was her dog, I'd probably puke up bile just to piss her off. I bet that's what's really going on.

I feel like I should get rid of the mementos I have from my marriage. 🙁
Pack them up in a box and put it away? I tend to put things in boxes and then when I do my yearly clean-out I look through it and if the items are still meaningful and worth having around, they stay. If they're bad juju they get donated/trashed.

Even cancer is the body's last ditch effort to accommodate itself to sustained injurious influences.

:wtf:

Pretty sure the last time I checked cancer was what occurs when the body was unable to correct the "injurious influences."

ETA: I honestly think that the most hilarious part about this crazy lady's website is that she goes on and on about how vets do not know proper care of animals and are not trained in how to care for them but are trained on how to make a profit and then she recommends that you BUY her book... Seriously? If she cares so damn much, why doesn't she just give out her book for free?

I am starting to REALLY feel stressed about my flight to Spain in a few days :scared:

I am starting to REALLY feel stressed about my flight to Spain in a few days :scared:

Deep breaths and relax... take a good book with and read, try not to think about the flight at all. I find that I am much less stressed about flying if I get to the airport early (earlier than they tell you to) and get my luggage checked in and get myself through security. I can then walk through the airport, get some food, find a place to sit and relax without having to worry about the thoughts of going through security. I have never found the flying part to be stressful, for me it is just getting to where I need to be on time that is stressful. Bring some books, a good pillow, a blanket; whatever you need that makes you feel relaxed... just don't work yourself up about it now because you will only make it worse for the actual day of the flight.

Gonna murder my landlady's husband. I've been home and asleep maybe 3 hours after a ridiculous day and they know I work graves and are still making multiple individual cuts on some type of saw right outside my bedroom window.

Did they give you 24hr notice that they were going to be around your place doing things? If not, you can legally kick them off the property.

This is excellent news! I'll have to call my boyfriend's mom and tell her that her colon cancer is actually just waste build up that can be cured by lifestyle changes. She'll be so relieved 🙄 x million

 (minus the whole colon cancer thing 🙁 )

I'm just going to leave this here:

crazy lady blog that will piss you off

OK, I just went through a whole bunch of that site, and I can't for the life of me tell what you ARE supposed to do, according to ms. insanity here. Most of her writing is just empty rhetoric. I wonder if she has political training? She says don't use any kind of medical care, don't feed your pets pet food, just feed them what they should eat and give them clean air, water and some excercise! OK, lady, I'm supposed to kill some deer for my dog?

Also: in the "About" section, she implies that animals don't have any emotional/psychological needs, only physical ones. I'd like to see her handle some anxious dogs, OCD cats, hyper-fearful rats, aggressive parrots...

From what I can tell, a raw food diet will fix everything. The intussusception post really got me.

But there's a part of the site where she says something along the lines of "so many people have been advocating the raw food diet in different forms that it can actually be harmful to your pet's health to read too much about raw food diets."

...like reading the site in question, for example?

She wants everyone to buy her e-book on how to do it "properly."

I read a bunch of her dribble to my class today. They were outraged. Its like the breeder lady who wrote 4 pages on how Parvo was invented by vets to generate income and vaccines are actually injections of disease and cancer.

REALLY?!
You're out with five subjects waiting for a bus that they have told you is coming, they gave you the bus number and all and you are making ME look it up online while my food is getting cold? and you didn't give the line number, just asked when the last bus is, which means I have to check the schedule for every line (there's 10) that stops at the campus bus loop? WHEN THOSE SCHEDULES ARE POSTED IN FRONT OF YOU.

N to mention that I bet every one of those five kids had a smart phone that could look up the schedule.

Keystone cops up in here tonight. And now my dinner is cold.

My rant is that I am jealous.

Woke up to an email from my mom saying she is visiting him in the next province to help him buy a car. Apparently he is spending too much money because of the transit strike, so they are letting him buy one.

Just a little background on my younger brother and I:

Him:
Never had a job in high school.
Did poorly in high school (doing great in flight school, which makes me proud)
His school is costing him more than mine.
Parents paid for him to take drivers ed.
They practiced with him and let him get his fulls.
He didn't try to find a carpool, didn't try to bike (it is only 5k away), and didn't move closer (like he was debating to) when the transit strike occured

Me:
Had a job in high school.
Did well in school.
Have a student loan and line of credit, like my brother, which I am slowly paying down.
Parents told me I had to pay for drivers ed. By the time I earned enough money for it, I was 18 years old.
They did not help me practice, so I never got my license.
They deny both of these things every occurring and told me it was my own fault for not getting my license in high school, like he did.
This is my third time having my learners permit. Can not afford the $50/hour lessons to finally get it.
When I had to deal with the transit strike for 6 weeks, I fought tooth and nail for a ride. Even though my roommate offered me rides, I had already found a back-up.

I have given up on every single one of my hobbies because the bus commute on top of working full-time is too much. I don't get home from work early enough to carpool with the Girl Guide leader. I have gained weight, and want a gym pass, but the 20 minute commute + 15 minute walk + upwards of 30 minute wait for the bus has me concerned that I won't get my money's worth. I can't volunteer at shelters or rehabilitation centres because they are too far or inaccessible by bus. I did these things when I was taking 3 courses at school. But now that I am spending 40 hours a week at work instead of 18 hours a week in class, it seems like more of a hassle.

Oh yeah... I did recently have a savings account. I was putting that was given to me aside so that I could travel one day. My friend told me she was looking for someone to go to New York with her. When I told her I had savings set aside for that, she snapped at me. She said it was not my money, it was debt money and that she puts her money pack on to her debt whenever she gets it back. I felt guilty so the $800 I have saved up since Christmas went back on my debt to lower the interest payments (which my parents take care of, thank goodness).

I am poor. I am starting to get antsy because I don't have a lot to do in my downtime. I cannot get a decent paying job with my level of education. Vet school is completely out of the question unless I spend money next year to upgrade or I move. I am starting to get stressed out.

I just wish this double-standard (or whatever this is) didn't exist. I hate how I work my butt off and receive just a little help from my parents, while my brother gets things handed to him. I don't like how they disapprove of me getting things, but approve of him getting those same things. I can understand him getting a car if he exhausted all of his options. But he didn't.

Trem, that really sucks. I know how you feel, my parents did that to me too. (well, not exactly that, but the favoring my younger siblings over me. It was quite blatant, my friends have even commented on it, so it's not just in my head). My siblings were/are problem children, even as grown adults.

If you can, I would sit down and talk to them. Tell them how you feel. It may not change things, but maybe it might let them see how it hurts you.

Are your parents paying your brothers interest, too? If not, they may see it as fair if they are paying your interest and not his.

Thanks Wolfspeaker.
I'm fortunate to have pretty good parents. They pay the interest on both of our lines of credit. They give us the same amount of spending money once every two weeks. They pay his cell bill. They used to pay mine too but when I switched providers several months ago I said they didn't have to.

I have a $20 000 line of credit that I have slowly started paying down. He has a $40 000 line of credit which is almost maxed out and he's still in school. It's just frustrating that he can take the remaining balance and buy a car. It would be frowned upon if I buy a car. They got very upset when a situation arose where I thought I would have to up my credit line to pay for school (but my student loan came though). They don't seem to bat an eye at him upping his line of credit.

I'll be okay in a while. I'm still adjusting to work and coming back to the city. And on the plus side, my debt is slowly going down. I just wish I had the same opportunities he had... or at least have someone be supportive of me rather than be critical of what I would like to put my money towards.

Trem, I feel for you. It always sucks to see others given things over you.

My twin brother is 25 and graduated 2010, yet lives with my parents on a stipend from them. They bought his car, pay for it's gas and insurance and his food/clothing/everything. He destroys my dad's house partying when dad's out of town and refuses to look for a job but the parents can't bring themselves to do anything about it.

I have a full time job, I pay my own rent, food, everything but car (I bought it jointly with my uncle, and it's an older honda, not a special edition VW like bro's) and insurance, which uncle covers. I buy my own plane tickets to go home and see the parents even.

Apparently these things I thought were part of being a grown up were optional after all.

There is a squirrel that lives out in the tree right outside my front door. He's sat in there and scolded before, but today, he's been sitting on the same freakin' branch, scolding for freakin' 4 hours straight! He just won't shut up! There are no other animals in my yard, and he's staring at my front door. It's creepy and annoying.

In one of my clumsier moment this month, I tripped and fell on my wrist. And now it hurts. A lot. To type, to turn it, to lift animals.🙁

Also, so very sorry for your loss Emiloo
