I need to stop reading the Relationship Center thread. It is not helpful for me to see all the advice about how LDR can work when my ex-now-apparently decided it couldn't. 🙁

**** EC. I was JUST there two weeks. No a little less. I'm sorry. It sucks so so so much. Especially when you were ready to do work and make it last.

Those aren't people you want to spend the rest of your life with. When ****e gets too hard they don't want to work for it. I'm not saying anyone that makes that decision is a bad person, it's a tough decision, but IMO it may be a deeper problem that comes up later in life when ****e gets too hard. Not always, but just thought that might help you see it differently. I'm babbling. Shut up Emiloo.

👍 not easy, but it is true.

I totally agree with this but it's one thing to know something logically and totally another to be in love with someone you just wish would choose to fight for you.

its a two way street, i'm in a similar situation. not on the same page, as it were.

Yeah, the actual breakup was...about a month ago? Obviously, so very not over it.

amen to this.

sorry EC 🙁 I had a break up a little less than 2 months ago, on my birthday bc of LD and we had been together for 1y5m. Later figured out they moved on less than a week later to a new SO.
But once and a while I think about it, and it still hurts, although I would never admit it.
Head up, it'll get better and you'll find someone (to quote Juno) "thinks the sun shines out your a**"
😉

Theft and damage to personal property all within two days... I'm beginning to hate our neighborhood kids.

My cat was scheduled for an exploratory biopsy today to determine if she has IBD or lymphoma. I got a ride to drive me and the cat to the vet office near the suburbs and took the train back. While I was on the train, I got a call from the vet office saying that the vet had a family emergency and left for the day and couldn't do her surgery. Ugh!!!!!!!!!!! It's not easy for me to arrange rides for her as I don't have a car and now I have to try to arrange a ride for her for tomorrow 🙁(( Fml.

could you leave her there overnight? Not sure if they do boarding/medical boarding but that might be easier than transporting her twice.

Too late...they drove her (my cat) to the train station to meet me and I took her home...ugh!!! Should have thought about that but they said that they were meeting me at the train station with her so my mind wasn't working properly--I hate my life.

Plus not 100% sure if the vet who will do her surgery will be back tomorrow or not. His son apparently has leukemia and was hospitalized with a fever.

I'm being tested with my first ethical dilemma and I don't like it. :scared:
I'm really stressed out and feel like I have no control over the situation as a visiting student.

Experienced my first loss on the table today at the shelter. We were removing cancerous masses on 2 of this dog's legs and out of nowhere his BP dropped and he stopped breathing. Vet stopped surgery to do CPR, stick the heart with epinephrine but he was dead far too long at that point to recover him without serious brain, organ, or heart damage so decided to let him go. I think it was harder for me as my first bc I have been here for him since the beginning of his intake. I carried this big ass lab to the clinic when he was so malnourished he couldn't walk to his neuter gone wrong.. to him playing ball and gaining weight to collecting samples for the cancer biopsy. He was just all in all a dog with bad luck. I am so thankful for the loving foster that took him in so he didn't have to spend his last few days at the shelter. I guess this isn't so much a rant but a realization of the path I'm walking down. It's not all smiles and times like these help me realize that I chose the right road, good or bad. R.I.P Ranger.

You're working with research pigs, yes? I've been in similar situations before and am more than happy to listen to you vent, tell you what I did, whatever helps you feel better about the situation.

 Yes it is. And in my situation I was the only one willing to travel it. Kind of literally...? Which is why he dumped me. Too afraid to do long distance.

life's tough, get a helmet. (love boy meets world) they'll figure it out soon enough, it's not all sunshine and roses. i'm sorry 🙁 it really stinks when you're willing and prepared and they're just freaking pansies.

i'm just a ***** that blindly goes forward with whatever i can get 😎 so what if it bites me in the ass down the road!

feel free to PM me if you need to vent 🙂

Anyone have advice on how to remove Betadine scrub from white gold and sterling silver? I read that it can permanently damage white gold. Trying to salvage my engagement ring and claddagh ring 🙁

Edit: toothpaste and a toothbrush worked beautifully on my claddagh. Jewelry cleaner didn't do crap 🙄

But my engagement ring is still discolored 🙁 Hoping my lifetime warranty covers it

Do you have access to an ultrasonic cleaning machine? Even at work or something... that usually works really well, but only for "hard" gems... i.e diamonds, emeralds, sapphires, etc. It also works great on gold and silver. Avoid using it on anything that has pearls or turquoise or any of the "softer" gems.

No 🙁 I'm hoping if I take it to the jeweler they can buff it out and fix it. I hope :xf:

Quite a few jewelers actually have and use ultrasonic cleaners to clean jewelery, so hopefully they will have one.

A couple of the techs and one of the vets I worked with used to toss their jewelery into our ultrasonic cleaner about once a month (right after the machine had been cleaned it was cleaned once a week)... it is the exact same thing. Works wonders for cleaning jewelery. 🙂

Had a dog lunge at me today multiple times. Luckily he was already wearing a muzzle but I seriously hadn't even touched him yet to do anything (even pets!) and he was throwing himself towards me. I've only ever had 1 other dog do that to me at work out of all the cautions we have, and it just irked me. I just don't understand how a dog could get that bad when it hasn't been on the streets for a good chunk of its life. Maybe it's because I've never had a dog that was even 1/10th that aggressive in any situation, but it just bothered me.

I probably should get a helmet... I'm pretty accident prone... And thank you. I think it was just really rough because I didn't see it coming and I'm still in love with him. Ah well...

All you people with stupid exs over vet school and long distance, hang in there :luck: same thing happened to me before i started school - its stupid and poopy and painful, but it'll get better with time, and you will have a leg up on the people who had SOs that kept quiet about their distaste for long distance until after school is started (we had a girl come with her fiance to start dvm and he hadn't been there more than a couple of days - he was moving there - before he was like uh no its over - enjoy living on an island BY YOUR SELF :😱)

i watched a procedure go down today that i did not agree with and felt like the animal was handled inhumanely - i understand how you feel as a visiting student. stinks 🙁

thats awful. this is my biggest fear about surgery/anesthesia. i am so scared of the perfectly healthy patient that drops dead during the procedure because they just happen to be that tiny percentage of randomness. i'm so sorry 🙁

We've had a few patients that are just nasty. They see us through the window into the exam room and they start snarling and snapping. So bad. We have to schedule them during surgery times so that no one is in the waiting room. It's nuts.

We have a few fear biters that are pretty feral but even they aren't as bad as this guy was, they just wiggle around like idiots. The moment I stepped into the lobby (not even looking at him) he was growling and barking at me. Most of our cautions are hard to handle, but usually we can get close to them after the muzzle is on without issues. It was frustrating and he ended up getting the muzzle off on the doctor and it was a huge fight to get it back on. Not how we wanted to spend our morning.

Hooly ****!!! I just spent tue last 1.5 hrs sitting on the floor of the milkers pit with torrential downpour and 70 mph winds! Seriously thought there was going to be a tornado.

Urgh I saw this in a giant, 65kg rottie that came into our vet once - came in for ear cleaning, o gave ace at home in food, was double muzzled by the owner, and then a butt load of torb and domitor was given - and the dog was STILL lunging at people, incl the owner!!! WHY would you own a dog like that?!?!?! Apparently the dog did stuff like this at home too, and the owner was so scared of the dog they locked their bedroom door at night so the dog couldn't come in and maul them while they were sleeping!!! The dog is totally going to kill someone one day. I literally don't understand why you would own a dog you can't control.

But yeah, i definately think some dogs ARE just head tapped from the beginning.

Drove around town a bit, before coming home. There are whole trees down everywhere! 😱 And lots of vehicle damage. I feel bad for the owners. Bumpers torn off, broken windshields, trees on the roofs. 🙁

Had a 9 MONTH OLD Doberman do this once. And every time he did it, the meat head owner would say "Good boy Boston" to try and "calm him down" :slap:
That cleared things up pretty quick for us 🙄

I had a border collie mix dog do this to me. Walk into the exam room and it is a lady with her young child and this really gorgeous border collie. The dog instantly starts snarling and growling but the owner insists that the dog is "fine". Yeah, uh huh, I am still getting a muzzle and I am still going to get the vet and the vet and I will control your dog for the exam. That didn't work either. The owner was able to get the muzzle on the dog since the dog was not allowing the vet or I anywhere near it (snapping and growling). As soon as the muzzle was on the vet tried to examine the dog and it started rolling and lunging. So we took the dog to our treatment area where it kept alligator rolling, lunging, and trying to bite through the muzzle. We could not even get close enough to the dog with a muzzle on to touch it, let alone examine it. At one point the dog went to lunge at us and talk about right place, wrong time... dog got a hold of my thumb through the front of the muzzle.. I lost my nail as a result of that bite. We ended up having to tell the owner that the dog would need sedation for us to examine the dog. The owner kept making excuses for the dog too. It was clear that the owner did not realize how to train a dog, especially one that has the intelligence and energy demands of a border collie. The vet later was like, "makes you want to kick the dog." I said, "no, not the dog's fault; I don't blame the dog, I feel bad for the dog, I want to kick the owner." The owner said the dog is great at home; I honestly think the dog was not socialized well, she mentioned that was the first time the dog had ever been out of the house... 😱😡

Ya'll must have gotten what passed through Texas/OK the other day. We had a mini tornado take out a bunch of power lines leaving four towns without electricity.

Rant: Local flooding has caused a state of emergency in my city and surrounding areas...I'm glad I'm not by the rivers, but really hoping those that are make it out ok and their homes stay safe. 🙁

Had to euthanize a cat we've been treating for URI for 3 weeks.

She was a great cat. Just wasn't responding to meds. I thought strongly about fostering her to see if she would get better in a home. Decided against it due to roommate and now I regret it.

My favorite was a 90+ year old lady that walked in with a 200+ lb bull mastiff. Not only was the dog aggressive toward other dogs but it was obvious that the owner had zero control over her dog. How on earth does this stuff happen? I almost felt bad for the owner since I seriously doubt that she just waltzed into a pet store, saw this dog who was 5X her size, and say to herself "yep, this looks about right; no way this can possibly go wrong".

A few pics 🙁 From around town and my friends parents house.
4-5" of rain in 3 hours!
And it may all happen again tonight. 👎
And we are in a tornado watch. I really do not want to go to work.
Did you guys in Minneapolis get hit with it?

Holy crud! Not nearly so bad here - although power was knocked out for a lot of the metro area for ~6 hours - I would have been even later to work had my cat not reminded me that it was past time for her breakfast.

The storm was loud and crazy though, it actually woke me up (the storm + the freaking out cat) and seriously cut down on my hours of sleep.

Keep getting this on and off pressure in my chest and with it I get this dry cough that is bad enough to trigger my gag reflex... so annoying. Anyway, was coughing and coughing and then got this taste of blood in my mouth.. I didn't see any blood, but it just tasted like it after coughing really hard. It was kind of gross and the pressure is annoying. :lame:

boys are more hot and cold than we women are. make up your minds! i swear they manstruate..

Had a really crappy day. Got screamed at by a clinician, for something I had no control over, in front of friends, classmates, residents, interns, techs, and clients. Yes, it was a full room. The "talk" lasted 16 minutes -a friend was oh so kind enough to time it.

I know I will make mistakes this year. I've made some major oopsies in the past, and it's more than likely it will happen again. I'm human. I own up to my mistakes. If I make a mistake, I will admit it and let the appropriate people know. This was not my fault, and I even documented all the nitty gritty details in the chart for you. Screaming at me is unnecessary. Screaming at me after I give my explanation for everything that's been going on is unnecessary. If you want to have a "chat" with me, take me somewhere private. And stay professional. I'm perfectly willing to do that and go through every step of my thought process. Again, yelling is bad. I'm going to be your colleague in less than year - can't we be nice about this? And when you are done raising your voice, please don't tell me "great job" in that sarcastic tone, and tell me "I should know enough to be a decent tech by now". That's insulting to me as a vet student and to all the amazing technicians out there. If you don't want to listen to me, why are you even asking me to explain my actions? When the resident on the case has to step in and defend me and later apologize to me, you. are. out. of. line.

UGH. It's been hours and this is still getting to me, even after quite a few drinks and some grocery-shopping-therapy (chocolate, anyone?) I am SO ready for this rotation to be over.

Must be in the air. Boss at work chewed our butts out the last 2 days over everything! We have a preceptor there (one of your classmates) and she got to witness it. Pretty demeaning and I cannot wait until Aug 1st when I am out of there!
