RANT HERE thread

Yep :\ Although my SO comes up for the Thanksgiving weekend - don't know if that's do-able for yours?

My rant - I waited to start my name change process because my sister said she was going to get me the software stuff as our gift. She never did so I had to scramble and now there's no way it can be done before I go back to school (being in Canada really complicates things - I don't want to get stuck with my passport being late or only half of my stuff changed). I know my SO is going to be frustrated (and I am too, just not as much as him) and I feel bad since I should have just bought the darn thing right after our wedding. Sigh.

I don't know if this will help, if things are that much different in Canada than the US, but if you're planning on flying, all you need is one piece of id to match your boarding pass. After I married, I waited 4 months to change my driver's license and SS card to my married name (I was waiting to buy a buy car, mine wasn't going to pass inspections in a new state), but we were going out of the country shortly after that so I didn't change my passport till about 2 months after that. My passport matched my boarding pass, and the airline was never any wiser. In fact, I had to use my passport to fly more than once while waiting to change my name over, even flying domestic. It's a valid form of identification. If you're worried about questions, just keep a copy of your marriage certificate on hand. Or say you were recently married (you don't have to say how long ago). An airline should never need it, but anyone else who would ask should be pretty understanding. I've been married almost 4 years now, and I still haven't changed my name on 100% of my accounts! 😳

Driving, and my biggest worry is that my study permit name wouldn't match passport. But if I changed everything but passport, I suppose it wouldn't matter. I just don't want to get stuck, you know?

I am lost... and my heart is broken into pieces beyond repair... I have lost 2 dogs in 2 days.

Oh my god Devyn, I am so so sorry. Please let us know if there's anything we can do for you.

I'm too far away, unfortunately, but you could always try Couch Surfing! https://www.couchsurfing.org/

I am so so sorry for your loss 🙁 🙁

So sorry Devyn. Hang in there. 🙁

My rant: I can't wait to move. I am sick of being treated like a major inconvenience and tiptoeing around my own house where I pay to live. I am not a bad roommate. But when my roommate gets in his moods holy crap how dare I live here. I parked ny car in the driveway to vaccum it out and it started pouring right when I finished. He wasn't supposed to be hone until tomorrow. I'm getting in the shower and I get an angry phone call telling me to move my car. Uhm, wow. Okay. And now I am subject to slamming doors/dishes and overly dramatic sighs for the rest of the night. Just seriously. So sick if this childish crap. All this for parking in the driveway for an hour.

Sorry for the bad times you're going through Devyn 🙁

My great aunt and uncle and their daughter have all apparently achieved bat**** crazy status. My grandmother just returned from a week long visit with them and regaled my mother with stories of their insanity.

In addition to all the other completely ridiculous things they do on a daily basis, the three of them have all become hypochondriacs. And the daughter has a stash of antibiotics, which I assume she buys off the internet. Any time one of them feels the least bit "unwell" they take the antibiotics. No prescription, no doctor supervisions, and definitely not a proper course. They take antibiotics like most people take ibuprofen. This morning my great aunt announced that her stomach felt funny and she probably had a bladder infection coming on ( . . . um, what? 😕) so her daughter ran for the antibiotic stash. Aunt took a couple antibiotic pills and an hour later said, "I'm feeling much better now, the antibiotics definitely helped!"

And people think antibiotic use in food animals is the major cause of drug resistance . . . :boom:

... and people wonder why I don't want a close relationship with my extended family. I'd prefer not knowing about these types of shenanigans. It has to be both entertaining and hugely frustrating to know people who abuse antibiotics like that when you're scientifically literate and want to be a doctor.

Did they read a website or something that recommends this behavior?

I can repeat the crap people have told me before, "Try to be more outgoing." Yuck.

Honestly, other than trying to interject and redirect the conversation toward you and the qualities you could bring to the practice, there's not much you can do when someone dominates the conversation completely. Maybe that gives some insight into what the working conditions are like? If they reposted the job, does that mean someone left right away or that no one wants to accept their offer?

.. also, totally feel you on people not hiring you for animal related jobs despite having lots of experience. Story of my undergrad life.

Story of my undergrad too 🙁 I feel ya!

I think it's the exact same position, they just re-posted it. Maybe they are incredibly picky about who they hire. It's near impossible to get a job here, so try can probably afford to be choosy.

I just dropped a résumé off at a vet clinic for a receptionist position. I have to follow up with them next week about it.

All of these animal-related jobs are so out of the way for me but I'm desperate. I've got a full-time job now but working in the veterinary field is my passion.

I have no idea where they picked it up. They have some VERY weird ideas. They're multi-millionaires, but my great uncle refused to get the shingles shot because it cost $250, so now he has shingles instead. They insist that the dog won't eat his dog food, so they feed him prosciutto, rotisserie chicken, and table scraps instead. They come up with "injuries" and "illnesses" out of nowhere - apparently while my grandmother was visiting, at one point my great aunt got up off the couch, walked to the bedroom, and then started exclaiming that she pulled a hamstring somewhere along the way. 😕

All this is barely even scratching the surface of the crazy. They seemed perfectly fine when I last visited two years ago! I really have no idea what happened. 😱

I would say no to dog food too if I know prosciutto and chicken were next on the menu

Can a Dalmatian get theobromine poisoning from eating 4 chocolate-chip muffins?

If I'm right and the dog would have been okay, she had no right to rub it in my face that she does this for a living. I'm not dumb. I just thought that inducing vomiting in a medium size dog for eating a small amount of milk chocolate was overkill.

Were the muffins all milk chocolate (both the cake and the chocolate chips)? Most things that are baked with chocolate chips are semi-sweet chocolate chips and the muffins probably don't have milk chocolate (as that is very rare to use for baking of cakes/muffins), but cocoa or baking chocolate (which is much worse). Also, depends on the size of the muffins.... are these normal medium sized muffins or large muffins (like what can be purchased at costco)? Also the exact weight of the dog matters as well.

Ugh Devyn I am so so sorry. I know how much they meant to you and how close you were to them. My deepest sympathies, I can't imagine. 🙁

My doctor sent lab work to the wrong lab, and now I'm being charged $200 for out of network costs. How is this MY mistake? I'm stressing.

I feel you on that one. My doctor forgot to put a lab on my bill while I was there to pay and now the company wants me to pay $250 for it. She didn't make it clear what tests she was running so I didn't know that it was missing until the bill showed up. All we can do is complain until someone else fixes it right?

This will be my third round of fighting it 😡

Good luck Emi and I hope you win. Shelling out that kind of money is always a bit painful, and even more so when it's over something you shouldn't have to pay in the first place.

My dad and stepmom adopted a 6 month old American Eskimo Spitz from the humane society, who had essentially been left alone in a woman's house for his entire life. No training, no attention, no socialization.

He potty trained and crate trained quickly and is a very sweet and loving dog, but he's done over $3000 in damage to the house in seven months. Even if they're in the house, even if they're in the same room, he destroys things. They're on the verge of taking him back and they have NEVER given up on an animal before. They don't want him to sit in his crate all day but he really can't be trusted without constant supervision.

He doesn't whine or bark when left alone, he just seems to get bored. He and their Rhodesian Ridgeback mix get a TON of exercise, and I've been going out of my way to take him on long walks all over town, but nothing seems to be helping. Our vet prescribed him Prozac so they're giving him six more months, but they're visibly frustrated whenever they deal with him and it's just making the situation worse.

Anyone have any insight? He doesn't misbehave any other way, he just shreds the walls and furniture.

I'm highly annoyed at the premed vs prevet thread on the pre-med allopathic board... Idiots

Eh at least most of the pre-meds are telling the one guy to STFU and get off his high horse.... really seems like most of them are not overly stupid over there on that topic, just a few

He may be getting a lot of exercise, but does he have good toys that keep his mind occupied? I'd start with stuffed kongs and work my way up to puzzle toys. Another option is to train him to do neat tricks or give him a "job" like going to get the newspaper in the morning or your dad's socks or whatever. It may be that his brain needs the exercise, not just his body. I hope it works out 🙁

That was fun 😀

Leash. At all times, attached to the waist of whoever is watching him so he cant get more than a few feet away. Basically, constant supervision for a while and then supervision in the same room and slowly work up the amount of time.

And yeah, kongs and puzzle games. Keep the mind busy too.

He's got a lot of puzzle toys and kongs that he gets in his crate, but outside the crate he and the other (much larger) dog fight like crazy over them no matter how many there are, so they've just got bones when they're both out.

He does know a lot of tricks and seems to love pleasing people, I'd thought about agility but neither my dad or stepmom would be able to keep that up after I leave. That's the main reason I've been trying walks, I figure a constantly varied route with exposure to kids, other dogs, joggers, etc might help if he's bored. I think they expected him to be pretty lazy like her last Spitz, but he's definitely not.

For when they can't constantly have an eye on him, keep him in a pen(larger than a crate). Will help keep him away from things they don't want destroyed. Until they find a way to train him not to(or for the rest of his life, maybe)

They have many different sizes. I have two round pens connected together. Each one is 56" across(no idea what they are together, my brain has shut down right now = no maths). My dog is in there when I am at work. I do not want to come home to my couch torn apart, or all my drawers pulled open and clothes chewed up.

Add: I had to tie my pen to a solid, heavy object(my desk), so that my pup couldn't shove the whole thing across the room.

I tried to answer him nicely and make good points but he didn't even respond to any substantial points people are making (other than the MCAT being so hard and prevet students not taking it) so he's obviously just looking for attention or is simply not the brightest and has no ability to effectively argue or understand other people's points haha. Don't be too annoyed; I think everyone knows he's just being dumb!

He's the only one blathering on about it. Everyone else seems pretty cool and understanding about the subject at hand.

Feeling very proud of myself for not even wanting to click over there 😀

I went, I read, and was glad to see the support from almost everyone there. Didn't comment though, I feel no desire to feed the arrogant ******* troll.
