every time i think i make progress on my joint/health issues, another one rears it's ugly head.

Feeling a little down

I feel your pain. I had another set-back last week and saw the Doc today. Another freakin' month before I can think about going back to work. 🙁 Still can't straighten all the way or walk normally and still at 3-6(outta 1-10) for pain levels.

How's your hand feeling now?

knees are doing semi-ok. still some swelling but much improved. just found out my ankle pain is due to a ligament tear. im really hoping PT will be enough

That sucks royally. You're a mess, haha! (are you having surgery on your other knee?)

My gosh, dy...I'm so sorry. This has been a nightmare for you!

Want a dumb rant? My dogs' breath is atrocious. Both of them. I've not been brushing...

So I went and bought them new toothpaste today. Fresh mint scent.

Fresh mint my ass. It smells like butthole. I had to fight not to gag as I was brushing. So much for fresh breath...

yeah. october was L knee, Nov was lap appy, Dec was R knee and L elbow. Feb was ECU in L wrist. I'm really hoping to avoid another this year

I have the Vanilla/Mint C.E.T toothpaste and it actually smells pretty good. My dog has atrocious breath too and he gets Greenies as well.

 My dog hasn't had bad breath yet(almost 1.5 years old). But she chews on hard beef bones all the time and has super clean teeth. (I do not brush, hasn't needed it yet)

My friend's dogs have horrendous breath! Knock you over when they are 2 feet away from you. Yuck!

Yeah my dogs are 7 and 3.5. Especially my older girl. :barf: And I just cleaned her teeth towards the end of last summer. Sigh. They get CET chewies semi often but still...

Also, little dogs. Little dogs and their bad oral health.... Grr.

would trade it all for being normal again.

I can't even work out the other parts of my body at this point. And I used to be a fairly active person

Yeah, I'm thankful that I have been able to semi-workout the last 4 weeks. Was a Godsend when I got cleared for that. I was nearly going out of my mind. I can't imagine having 4 more surgeries. Noooo thank you.

Sent a group FB message out, three weeks ago, to a lot of my friends inviting them to join me for my and my sister's birthday tonight (bar hopping) and only a handful of my "friends" contacted me and said if they're coming out or not. Um, FB Messenger shows who views messages...and you all did. WTG. But then they'll all expect me to come out when they want me to. :bleh:

I am once again the victim of the vet school curse of unhealthy animals.

I also paid my vet bill off here at the teaching hospital, which is apparently bad luck here (so I was told by multiple staff members...)

Mojo, my min pin, came in last week for recheck of his liver/kidney/protein values from his Lepto infection. Of course, his liver values are elevated and he randomly had glucose in his urine with no hyperglycemia. We're hoping that was a spurious result... So, he is back on doxy for a "just in case" Lepto reinfection. As a precaution, we put my hound, Cabbie, on it as well.

Brought Cabbie in the day after Mojo for her Derm recheck (she is on her second food trial and tested negative for inhalent allergies). We decided to run some baseline bloodwork so that if we decided on Atopica, we'd already have the results. Well... of course she has mild azotemia, dilute urine, and protienuria. Hooray.

Cabbie comes back tomorrow for another check of bloodwork and urinalysis, and Mojo comes back neck week for more bloodwork and another urinalysis as well.

My bill is steadily rising and I'm getting really nervous something is wrong in my environment that is unsafe for my dogs...

Called the vet I worked for back home today to have them fax my dog's shot record to me because he's getting a dental at school tomorrow. I get the fax and it only shows 1 yr vaccines from August 2012, nothing 2013. I call back and have them check the paper record because I am 100% sure I gave him 3 year shots in 2013 and sometimes the freebies for staff don't get put in the computer system, and apparently that record first showed the shots in August 2012 and the line below that was another full round of shots dated May 2012 (a date before the entry above it?) . I think what happened was I probably wrote 5/2012 instead of 5/2013 on the paper because he is wearing a 2013 rabies tag from that clinic, but the new-since-I-left receptionist won't believe me even though his 2013 tag number matches the number for the May "2012" record. She was just like "Wonder how that happened, huh" and didn't offer go through the paper tag number books to sort it out and I'm 2 hours away. Now I'm probably going to have to pay to revaccinate him at the teaching hospital because he's "past due" even though he's really only 1 year in on a 3 year vaccine because of a dumb mistake and an unhelpful receptionist. Admittedly, it's most likely my mistake for writing down the wrong year, but how would he have a 2013 tag if his a last shots were in 2012?

1. Someone was very inconsiderately doing laundry until 2 am last night. I do not do well with a sleep deficit.

2. The quality of parking in the lot today was atrocious. The lines were relatively visible this morning, so it shouldn't have been a problem. I was 3 inches away from not being able to back out of my spot this afternoon.

Every time I try and be a good student, keep up with notes, attend classes, etc, I do SO BAD on tests. When I stop attending, just read notes, pull allnighters, I do fine but feel totally alienated from our class and opportunities. Ugh. Clin path sucks butt.

ugh. I had no idea the phone interview for the Banfield summer vet student job program would be SO incredibly involved. Probably should prepared a bit better for it, but too late for that now.

I've heard from multiple people Banfield's interviews/hiring process are typically like that.

Ugh yeah. Last year, luckily I was the last of my friends to do mine, so they warned me about what type of questions I'd be asked. I have mine this Thursday and I really wanted to reschedule because I'm away for a funeral right now but there are no dates left, so I'm just going to hope for the best. I probably won't have my laptop to have my resume up or anything either.

Also, had dinner tonight with family I hadn't seen a while. First thing out of my uncle's mouth is about his lab's ear problems and how his vet was overcharging him to have them looked at and treated.

Yeah, a classmate warned me ahead of time too. I was away from my laptop, too, and they tried to confirm what locations I'd entered but I wasn't sure (it was a couple of the many ones in Houston). And I had it all neatly typed up in a document on my computer!

Good luck with yours! I hope it goes well despite your difficulties.

Thanks! Pressure to do super well is kind of low though since the Banfield I worked at last year said they'd still let me work. And I'm honestly not sure I'd do it if I can't get that hospital again. The other ones near me haven't had great reviews from student participants.

Yeah, I kind of feel like it isn't a super big deal if I don't get in since I'm not sure how I feel about corporate vet practice. It's probably the only way I'll get paid for doing vet work during the summer though.

I'm actually a little irritated because I was offered a job at a Banfield last spring before I got into vet school and the wages they offered me were about $15.50/hour, but if I get accepted to the same hospital for the vet student program I'll be getting paid about $11/hour. I have no idea how that makes sense to anyone.

Because corporate pays you, not the hospital and you shouldn't being doing what a tech does as a student doctor. I went through the program and had a great experience (that didn't match with working there as a doctor). Happy to answer any questions.

I had my phone interview about 2 weeks ago and I was told the same thing. Also, he said 80% of the time you are working as an assistant.

I definitely did a lot of tech work, which was fine with me because I wanted to work on some skills that I didn't really get a chance to do at my first practice. That being said, the vets definitely asked me a lot abou what I thought about a case, or what was wrong with a radiograph, what would I do to tx a problem, etc. Even when I was working there over break, as a vet assistant and not a through the program, they still quizzed me or told me I could watch surgical procedures, etc instead of working as a tech. Obviously if they were really in a bind and getting slammed with patients, I helped with rooms, but my hospital has always been pretty flexible with making sure I get what I want out of my time with them. Can't say the same for every one of the hospitals, but I had a great time with mine.

Spent 8 hours in the ER with a friend tonight (exam on Friday) for them to turn around and tell that her that there was nothing wrong with her and sent her home. UGH. I sometimes feel like vets are the better doctors...

That's what I was told too. The whole reason I want this job (aside from getting paid) is so that I can learn the clinical skills I haven't mastered yet, so I would much rather be an assistant 100% of the time instead of taking a $4/hour pay cut just to talk about some cases occasionally.

yes, you do a lot of tech work but you aren't there JUST to be a tech. They will use you as free labor because for that office you are even though corporate pays you.

More likely to get talked to about cases and WHY the dr is doing what they are doing. Unfortunately, if you've never used the system there before, you will have to spend some time doing that.

I've definitely caught some type of bug, but I have no idea what is wrong with me. What I assumed to be pulled muscles in my chest/back has escalated to what I can only assume is the plague 🙁

What type of questions does banfield ask? I have my interview for the student job programs tomorrow....kinda nervous

Family being sick and you being 1,000's of miles away just sucks.... there is no other way to put it.

Also, suddenly thought today that I would really like to talk with my grandma, but I can't and 🙁 😢

Sometimes I really wish people would just give me free reign to do work projects in my own way. I need a supervisor available and willing to answer my questions and point me to appropriate parties that can help or offer advice. I need a supervisor to be up front about expectations and deadlines. If those conditions are met, I am really good at working independently and delivering quality products.

Today, while I make a database to record the first questionnaire results, I'm looking at what was mailed out and realizing that the questionnaire I was told to use was basically the first draft I wrote months ago with some minor edits from the project supervisor.

This is upsetting for a number of reasons. (1) I spent a good deal of time writing the subsequent drafts. (2) The first draft is lacking in information critical to the project and the program I work in. (3) That lack of information will necessitate a phone interview now that I will undoubtedly be asked to perform. (4) I have spent months working on this project and all of its parts, addressing envelopes, writing letters, signing letters, building databases, managing spreadsheets, pulling articles, etc. and now I feel crappy because the "main event" was, in my mind, completely botched.

To me that is very disappointing. 🙁

(I should probably mention that I have perfectionist tendencies but, really, this thing would have turned out so much better if the appropriate materials would have been used.):bang:

Both of my laptop batteries are getting "failure: capacity too low" error messages, a week before I leave for 7 weeks of off-campus rotations. I hate having to pay for expedited shipping on stuff. A new battery better fix the problem! Luckily the computer itself still works fine (4 years and going strong, knock wood!), but requiring a power cord every 10 minutes would make travel very difficult

So friggin bummed. I was planning on flying home this weekend to take a breather before finals started. my first flight was delayed but we were supposed to get in on time to catch my next flight. We didn't, so I missed my connection and there were no more flights available to get me home until Sunday. I just turned around and got back on a plane to come back. So so bummed.
