Alright, so I realize I live in the middle of absolute nowhere... but when I mention my reactive husky and I are going to run in the mornings and you reply "That's great, don't worry my dogs are put up at night anyways," I did not expect to be ran off the road, inches from being bitten, into the muddy cornfield. Not to mention we had to loop 1.5 miles around through the poison-ivy and thorn infested woods to get back home.

Ugh. :rage:

Apparently this is what I get for trying to be healthy.
 
Oh my lordie I am not good with children and I have my 7 y/o baby brother for a week while my dad gets better from a back injury. What are good things to do with smallish children? We're doing the pool and How to Train Your Dragon 2 today...
 
Card games, board games, video games, outdoor activities, trips to the park, library. Something different every day to keep him entertained. Have him help make his favorite foods for lunch and dinner.
 
He's in camp during the day while I'm working, so most of the day is taken up with that, just need evening ideas. (He's at circus camp! I'm vaguely jealous. 😛)

He's the least able-to-entertain-himself child on the planet. Doesn't do legos, crafts, play-doh, crayons, figurines... really, anything that I enjoyed as an only child, haha. He'll play video games, but even then constantly wants someone else to play with him (and I feel somewhat bad just plopping him in front of the TV). I think we're going to go roller-blading at a local rink tomorrow evening, hit the park and set up my silks Thursday, maybe Trampoline park Friday and then there's an awesome science museum for Saturday. Will definitely be fitting a fort in there somewhere, though! For him, of course. Not me.

And then he (hopefully) goes back to the parents! I love him very much, but he does make me wonder how in the world people have children...

Mentally I'm hungry - I want to taste things, mostly - but my stomach is still putting up a helluva fight and I don't want to eat. I had to take a codeine finally last night which I hadn't had to do since it started 🙁
 
Okay the pain thing isn't too bad, but for ****'s sake I hate the whole "being stuck at home on the couch elevating my foot all day" thing and the loss of independence that goes along with it. It's like day 3 of this and I have no idea how I'm going to last any longer.

did you know that underwater hockey is a thing? not sure which of the zillion scuba related fb pages posted a picture the other day, but i couldn't help but tip my head and say "huh" :eyebrow::shrug:

I can't. I don't have the attention span to focus on these things. I can't go get food or anything and have to ask people to do things for me and I hate it. I wish it was my left foot so at least I could go somewhere in my car.

Believe me, I know the feeling. All I can recommend is grab books, video games, computer and settle in with a variety. It sucks. but at least it's not forever.

It feels like it will be right now! The orthopod can't even get me in until Thursday so it hasn't even been fixed yet and I'm just sitting around with a crappy splint and gross bandage getting angrier by the day. You know those times when you have thoughts of whacking it harder so they have to fix it emergently?

I usually got to the point where I just wanted to cut it off...and replace it with robot parts.

Even if he could schedule you earlier, he prob wouldnt. Most orthopods want the swelling to come down before they operate.

The swelling has gotten WORSE since this happened. The first day there was barely any and now my foot is two times the size of the other one despite the fact that I am sitting around elevating and icing it for 14 hours a day and then sleeping with it elevated.

I've taken them intermittently (mostly just in the morning) because it doesn't really hurt much and they're prescribed as needed and I already have stress related stomach issues.

I have a feeling if they want to wait until the swelling goes down it's going to start healing itself in the splint in god knows what fashion (because the ER doctor didn't even take post-splint rads)

That's just what I've been told by the multitude of orthos I've seen this year. But even if it does, they'll just rebreak it to suit their needs

Sometimes it's the slightly more legitimate but no less frustrating "I'm afraid my vet will think I'm an idiot so I'm calling you first."

I don't know why they waste their time. I inevitably tell them to call their vet. I'm not about to start diagnosing your cat over the phone. 🙄
 
I only get 2 days off a week and have been going in every day to help deal with making the business successful. Today was my "day off" and the contractor list his key a and called me before 7:30 asking me to let him in. I was planning on being there today anyway, but he woke me up and I have a drs appt this morning that I can't miss. So I told him I could open it up but he has to be there on time And he won't answer the phone or returns texts
 
My 11 year old dog is falling apart (11 is not really considered old for his breed, either). Proteinuria, hypertriglyceridemia/lipemia, hx of IBD and pancreatitis. Oy! He's still acting fine, thank goodness, but I"m not happy.
 
Just found out how much my rent is going up to for this coming year. Now I'm kinda wishing I had looked for a roommate and a new place to live. Oh well. I wouldn't have had time to move in August anyway. Maybe next year. I just wish they would stop doing things like renovating the party room and putting in a fire pit and just not increase rent. That would probably make most people happier.
 
I had to take puppy to the vet earlier since she's had... GI issues for three weeks now and a bland diet is doing nothing. The vet can't find anything wrong with her at the moment, but if these pills don't work they're going to have to run a million tests. Afterwards I tried taking her for a walk in her new halti and she chewed right through it. :yeahright:

Get a puppy, they said. It'll be fun, they said.

Life as a supervisor is great. No, really. Because when the full-time overnight staff doesn't show, guess who leaves her visiting boyfriend to sleep alone while she covers a graveyard shift. Working is not on the top of my list of things to stay up all night for...

Totally musing here, but I wonder if they looked at a direct and a float or just a float. What you're describing sounds a lot like certain parasites that aren't always well seen. Good luck!

I want to go play with my silks but nobody will come with me and they're: a) hard to set up, and b) dangerous to do alone. So I'm grouchy. 🙁
 
Sometimes I wish I had a sign to wear at work that said, "I'm new, please be patient even if someone's dying," because when it's just brand new first weekend out of training me and someone who hasn't been here much longer than me and you tell me to call a client to get payment on the updated estimate and then call in the full surgery and anesthesia team, it's going to take me a little time. Especially when the surgeon comes up to the desk like a minute later and is like, "Have you called yet? This dog isn't doing well so if you could get things going a little faster." And I'm like, I'm working on it, you hovering behind me is really only going to slow me down and make me forget things like asking the client for their credit card code, and then having to call them back because somehow I accidentally hung up on them instead of putting them on hold. And then somehow I hung up on the anesthesia tech when I put her on hold. I think the hold button is broken on this phone. And oh, apparently you're supposed to call both anesthesia techs... so why when I told the surgeon the ETAs did he not say, well what about the other tech? Blehhh... I'm going as quickly as I can, and I don't know this stuff well enough yet to be able to do it without thinking about it... which means the more pressure I feel, the harder it is to remember how the heck to get to the screen I need to get to for whatever the it is I'm doing. Thank god our ER department is amazing and will always answer our questions when we call them, no matter how random or stupid they are.
 
I mailed my wife's medicine to her in Germany before she would run out.
The package never showed up.

I just found out that it is illegal to send medicine to Germany. I guess they just destroyed it?
And she ran out now.

Now she has to find a doctor there to prescribe her the medicine (luckily it is available there).
Husband fail.

(apparently your pharamacy in the US can mail the medicine to a pharmacy in Germany if necessary, but way too late for that).

I think it's with Europe in general. Some of my friends in undergrad had that issue when we were abroad. They emphasized that we should try to bring it over with us or get scripts from our doctor to use over there. Harder to do when you're going for a year though.

Glad she was able to get her medicine from somewhere though.

Scripts from U.S. doctors are not valid either.

Gotcha. I ended up not using my scripts since I had a visa and was there long enough to get into their national health system, so good to know they don't work either.
 
Holy hell do I hate dumb dog owners.

I'm walking my dog and we're on our way home and I see this guy come out of his house with his standard poodle who I know barks at anything that walks by since they live on the block behind us. Well, since I know my dog is leash reactive, I make the decision to stay on the other side and will continue in the opposite direction that I wanted down the street to avoid dealing with another reactive dog that will set mine off. Well, the thing is on an effing flexi-leash which the guy does not lock so it wanders into the street after my dog. I give our "let's go" command to keep walking away from the situation and we're doing okay for the most part. Geordie is super interested in the poodle but isn't barking/lunging and is for the most part coming with me. Well out of two other houses comes a yappy Yorkie on no leash, from a yard with no fence. I have no other direction to go because the poodle is behind me and this dog is on the other side of the street. It keeps barking and approaching us and the owner just sits in her yard and tries to call the dog. Obviously doesn't work. Out comes a Chihuahua to join the fun. Yorkie starts to walk in the street, so I just pick up my dog and walk away cause that's pretty much the only option I got since he's above his threshold at this point. I am not above punting a small dog if it tries to come after my dog if it's my only option to avoid a dog fight.
 
When I was out biking yesterday, I saw this guy pull up next to the wetland area across the street and put something on the ground near the edge of the tall grasses. As I rode by I looked down and saw that it was a turtle. I really hope this guy was just a good samaritan moving some poor turtle that was stranded in a parking lot, and not someone dumping off a pet that got too big. But I doubt it. :yeahright:

or someone who found a turtle elsewhere and thought he was helping it by putting it near water (since turtles have a relatively small footprint and will starve to death if moved outside of it)

Hopefully he was just moving it from one side of the path to the other. Turtles are very territorial, so if you move them from place to place, it causes massive turtle drama.

He pulled up in his truck, so the turtle wasn't from nearby. And looked kinda like he was trying to be quick and sneaky, which makes me suspect he was releasing a former pet into the wild.
