Stay warm 🙁

We had a few days of weather like this in my fourth year...brutally cold. I remember one morning my house keys froze into my front door lock as I was leaving LOL. Didn't want to be late so I just straight up undid my car keys from my keychain and drove away with my house key stuck in my doorknob lolol. I wasn't in the best area, I'm assuming the fact that it was -20 or something was the reason I didn't get robbed. Good times.
 
You guys, there's an argument going on as to whether or not paying a certain someone $4800 for vet school admissions 'guidance' is worth it or not, and people are saying it totally is. Insane. Why am I on here doing this for free when I could be making 10's of thousands a year doing the exact same stuff lol

lol literally. someone said a downpayment of $500 got them a spreadsheet of schools she recommended, anything beyond that was 'extra.' Literally we do this for free on SDN.

(this is in the APVMA group for those interested in reading)

lmao just came here to rant about this. i’m getting attacked for calling it predatory and that you should not pay that much money for advice/services you can easily do or find yourself..

I have some serious questions about the decision making capabilities of people who would pay that much for something like that...

Either that or they have too much money on their hands, but I'd still question the decision making because wow you could do so many better things with that amount of money regardless :laugh:

OP's post was innocent enough. I honestly would not have even guessed this person charges $4800 for what she does. I know she's been active for a few years but I assumed it was like...many hundreds at most. She must be making bank though. She probably sends students nearly identical resources initially and the bulk of her time is spent reading essays. But it also says she has a 'team' so might even be farming that stuff out to people?

I'd also want to know if she caps how many applicants she takes on. My guess is no, but for how much time it takes to adequately proofread even one application/essay, either she's got a big team or her services are not as personal as she's making them seem. I did one essay for one of our SDN people this past cycle and it was a few weeks of back and forth. Not that I think you need to pay for that obvi, but the essay part is the biggest time suck

Is your Facebook app out of date? Bc you can now make an anon nickname or there’s the anon slider for just generic anon but once you interact with a post, you can’t go anon unless you remove all likes/comments you’ve done

Yeah I cannot imagine she has capped her number of applicants and I’m sure that she farms stuff out. Absolutely insane that people will pay for that.

I'm not actually gonna do it. But four students/cycle would probably be doable for me. That's $20k (pre-tax obviously), and I wouldn't farm out for just four students.

The thing about that whole conversation that got me was..1) it’s not that hard to find information on what schools you should apply to based on gpa, experience, etc. 2) that amount of money is insane when you can’t even guarantee an acceptance. That’s the same money you could use for application fees!

I’ll admit i did pay one person this cycle for interview prep, and while i knew it was a gamble the price was reasonable and at worst i got practice interviewing since this was my first time applying, and my first interview was for my top choice school. Thankfully it ended up being a great experience and gave me things to think about for future interviews.

But $4800…for someone to help craft your application which they can’t really do it you dont have the experience and stuff? Unfathomable to me

Tbh I think that's reasonable bc that's a service you actually need someone else's time for that you can't do by yourself, especially when you're out of school already and don't have a campus career center to help you for free

when i was a desperate pre-vet (before anyone gets mad, i’m just describing the type of pre-vet student i was. this isnt a generalization) i contacted her for a free consult and was quoted like $3000? and she emailed me a few weeks later to let me know the prices were going up.

i didnt end up pursuing it but that’s more than my rent? and a payment plan doesn’t help. last cycle (or i guess now two cycles ago? wow.) i contacted a vet student for essay help because i needed someone 1-1 with a quick turnaround time and happily paid her for her time because i’d rather directly support a student.

almost $5000 is absolutely insane.
 
also officially moved off of tiktok in favor of instagram 😔 worked hard for my page but the platform is awful now and since oracle took over, it’s been basically offline which is sketch as F.

oh well. instagram isnt a saint either and far from perfect but it’s the current alternative besides bluesky which is essentially new twitter.
