I feel your pain!!! 🙁 I also dumped my boyfriend last week. We were seeing each other long distance for over a year and he just moved here to be with me after I found out I was going to vet school. I guess being in a long distance relationship blinded me to the things I began to realize once he moved in with me. For example, we've been together over 1.5 years and he's never bought me a gift...ever. And like you said, it's not about the material things, it's just about showing you care such as a card or even a single flower. For his birthday this year I was trying to save so I just made him his favorite meal and dessert with a candle in it.

The worst part is that he refuses to go back home. He wants to stay here and even moved into an apartment right down the street from mine (which by the way I had to find for him because he was planning on taking his sweet time moving out of mine)! I just hate fearing that I might run into him while I'm trying to move on. I think I'll always love him but I know that I had to break up with him immediately when he showed his true colors last weekend by he getting wasted by himself in our apartment and then trying to take out some aggression on me while I was sleeping. I refuse to ever be in an abusive relationship! 🙁

Scarecely, if you feel like you really can't wait a week to talk to someone, and need someone NOW, there should be some services around for that (esp on campus health services) without the need to harm yourself first. If not, there's got to be at least a crisis hotline to call.

I'm aware of the crisis hotline. I have to make a doctors appointment anyway. I'll be fine 🙂 Other than that, I don't really know what's available but I should probably look into it.

I'm beginning to think there is something wrong with me. I get separation anxiety with specific people that gets pretty nasty at times. That's been going on since I was 2. Lately, I've had periods of zero motivation, which is a BAD thing to have when you're working on a thesis. I spent a couple of hours playing with my hair and watching tv with the volume on low on Sunday and could not physically get up and get my text books. Nothing at all was going through my mind. It was creepy. Happens a lot, but never for that long.

Another rant... I think I have arthritis. Hence the doctor's appointment. I'm 22 and falling apart. My gene pool sucks. I'm never having kids lol.

I hate biochemistry lab. The work is interesting enough, and not particularly hard, but I hate having a full lab report due every single week. Especially because all graphs and tables have to be done by hand. I have lousy handwriting and I can get a more accurate graph on Excel, so what is the point?!

And the TAs are kind of useless. One told me my data were fine, another said they were horrible and I had to go get someone else's, but only told me this the day before the report was due, and I'd already drawn all the graphs and done all the calculations.

Above all though, I hate my lab partner. She's useless. She mentally checks out during experiments. She left a couple of test tubes in the warm water bath during a DNA digestion while she ran off to get help on last week's questions from the TA. Leaving me alone for about 45 minutes to finish the experiment on my own.

Reminds me of the stupid stats hw that would have data sets of 50 values, and we had to write out all the work by hand to get the standard deviation. yep... filled up the whole page for each question. i still did it on excel anyway. but just had to handwrite all the crap.

I feel like I have some weird arthritis/joint pain too. For the last week, my knee has been killing me, it hurts to bend and straighten and I can feel it cracking and creaking. I don't know of anything that I've done recently that could have caused that sort of injury. I'm hesitant to go to the doctor because
a) human clinics suck and don't have everything you need (i.e. xrays) in one place --> mult copays and lots of time driving around
and b) it might just be something that heals with time and there is nothing they can do (though I'm definitely not taking the advice I always giving clients of getting their pets checked out just in case).

Now that it's tax season, he's been getting giant financial-ly envelopes almost every day. They look exactly like what I imagine a veterinary school acceptance letter would look like. Add me to the list of people falling apart young. I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis of both knees at age 16. Horseback riding was deemed the culprit. When I was 19 I started going to the chiropractor for my back, where an x-ray showed a stress fracture in my lower back. The cause? A combination of my conformation (a bit "swaybacked") combined with repeated stress from riding horses. Dang beasts. And they've only begun to beat my azz, seeing as I plan on spending the rest of my days doing equine medicine.

I'm already sick of my anatomy class. I study/read for hours a day, go to tutoring sessions, etc. But there is SO much busy work for this class, I'm having such a hard time keeping up with it all plus studying as much as I can.

I met with my adviser today and she told me that it's going to take me 6 years to complete my undergraduate degree.... which is really upsetting me.

Ah, it's basically the same thing for me, and I'd never heard anyone use the term Bursar outside of Discworld novels. They're technically different offices, but we don't have a bursar we just have 'student accounts', who are run by the registrar's office anyway.

ETA: My stress levels are already sky high. My only best friend in the area is now whining because the prof she is OBSESSED with agreed to be another student's honours supervisor. She's LIVID because she wanted to be the only one. I cannot handle her right now. I've been telling her for the past year to suck it up or move on to another prof. But no... she cries over him and obsesses over every little thing he does and does not do. Everytime she sends the man an email, I have to approve it before she does.

I just want to grab her by the shoulders, shake her and scream KNOCK IT OFF to her face.

She made me late to my sleepover Friday night. She made me feel guilty for not being available for dinner that night. She only wanted to hang out with me on my birthday when it was a good time for her ("Let's go for a coffee NOW" uh... I'm crying and my not dressed yet... so no"). Now this.

I keep having dreams where we get into fights. I can see our first one coming.

So, I have a lab due for O-Chem tommorrow, and I've been losing a lot of points on peak assignments lately because my professor is a lot pickier this semester. So, I was planning on going to the tutor tonight because I'm staying over with my friend because of the snow.

Ordinarily, I don't get to take advantage of the science tutors at my school because I commute (about an hour each way which is awful) and my mom is paranoid about me being in my school's parking lot after dark (all of the chemistry tutors at my school begin at six at the earliest, and its a small school, so we usually only have one a night/class) because its a bit of a walk from the main buildings.

Anyways, tonight I was planning on going to the tutor for help with my lab, and he wasn't there. It just makes me mad though because if I knew he wasn't going to be there I would of made an appointment with the proffessor.

I know I should of planned on having it done earlier, and went to the professor anyways, but I had a million other things going on this week with school/outside committments.

In addition, I honestly wish I would of went to a more commutor friendly school at times because being a commutor at my school absolutely sucks. To top it off, last semester I'm fairly certain I would of gotten much better grades if I didn't commute. I would have a lot more time. Also, my school has these review things for both cell bio and o-chem that they give you an extra 3% on your grade if you attend because they get grants for them and need to show people go. Of course, they were always on Sundays from 7:30-9:30 and to go to them would of wasted two hours of my time driving, not to mention I already spend enough in gas per week. The two friends I have that were in those classes commute too and didn't go either because the times are so inconvenient and they also live fairly far away. If I would of gone, I would of had an A in cell Bio, and an A-, for sure, but possibly and A in organic (from getting the help).

Thank goodness he stopped and sat when I yelled for him to sit. Yep, in Columbus. I fell on my way to school today too, and saw lots of other people fall too. Most people actually stayed off the sidewalks and opted to walk in the middle of the road instead. Safe 🙄

I'm no animal expert, but I've never seen neutered animals trying to mate with other neutered animals. How exactly am I supposed to prevent this? Just a little baffled.

Side note- I got up early this morning to drive over to the laundromat to get it done before a long & busy trip to NY this weekend. All of the traffic lights were out of power/service on my way to the bank to get cash (cluster-F drivers), only to find that all three banks near the laundromat were also experiencing a power outage so I couldn't use their ATM machines. Miraculously, the laundromat is up and running.. but I only have enough quarters to do half of my laundry (and hopefully dry sufficiently)! Stupid ice storm. We had a cat named Lucky, a neutered male, who didn't know he was neutered. He liked to hump a stuffed toy, a pig. It was something to behold.

The wife asked the vet and I think the answer was that testosterone is present in small amounts in other areas aside from those that are removed in the neuter procedure. There wasn't any way to prevent it, except to hide the stuffed pig. 😛

In my experience with owners reporting similar behaviors the vet tells them that it is a dominance behavior. Your male cat is trying to dominate your female cat. In my understanding the sex of the animals don't matter, just that one is trying to physically dominate the other one.

Interesting. The male is a 13-pound orange tabby, and is the most relaxed, laid-back cat you've ever seen. Although, since I got the tortie a few months back, she has been getting everyone riled up, playing and chasing and wrestling and whatnot. That may have something to do with his sudden urge to dominate.
If he keeps it up, though, he might just be going to stay at grandma's house for a while!

Aww. I did the same in biochem too. Nobody should ever have to take that class!

ETA: It should NEVER take someone 6+ hours to complete a weekly chem assignment. Like everyone else in the class, I had other assignments due this week. Unlike everyone else, I have a test tomorrow. So, while they were in the lab until 2am finishing it, I spent 4 hours in the lab and went home to study. I told the prof I was handing in what I had done. Luckily she doesn't really care. But holy freaking IR NRM Mass Spec batman! 6+ hours to do 15 moderate problems (find the structure based on mass spec, IR and NMR) and determine the peaks on 15 mass specs.

I've been going to the prof often for extra help... gah... it doesn't really help. After 30 minutes of staring at a problem, I still don't have it done.

What type of computer monitor do you have? It took me a while to realize that the glare from the glossy screen on my Macbook was really messing up my eyesight. Makes my eyes feel like everything is kinda dim for the rest of the day. Sometimes it helps just to severely cut down on computer time and focus instead on a book or getting out for a walk.

My cats have never done the mounting thing, but my parents' did when they were younger. In their case, it was definitely a dominance thing.

How old are the cats? Cats generally hit social maturity between 2 and 4 years of age, and I've seen a (thankfully temporary) significant increase in aggressive and dominance-related behaviors from each of the boys when they went through it. Nick hit it at 3, Thomas at 3.5, and Tyson at 4. Tyler is somewhere in that age range, and he's just starting. (I can already tell that this one is going to be fun.)

What I was referring to was not an all day humping sort of thing. Just a once in a while humping. That's what the vets I've worked with advise owners about. I wasn't aware that that theory had been somewhat debunked though. I will look into the links you provided.

I guess there can be many reasons for humping. And they're all horribly embarrassing to the majority humans involved.

So, I've gone into panic mode about (dun dun dun) my English lit minor. I am looking for a class that isn't MWF (want to try and leave Friday open so I can travel to schools if need be) however, my Tufts interview is next Tuesday (I can't wait!😍) But, my lone English class to complete my minor has a teacher who is being incredibly difficult, saying "You missed my 1 class when you transferred in Monday, that counts as an absence (I was in another English class at the time & didn't want to just walk out cause it would've been uber rude), & you're missing Monday again. That's 2 absences. I allow 4. Good luck😛"

I understand a prof's position (they expect students to go to class), but vet school is kind of my future. I don't want to bash any liberal arts majors or their profs, but the class I switched from (writing intensive: don't need in order to graduate) only allowed 2 absences (excused or not) and she said my "vet interview" is counting as 1. I'm seriously annoyed.

The question: do I drop the class? (and give up my minor cause there are literally 0 classes that seem of interest that are not writing intensive/don't fit in my schedule) or pray that I wake up tomorrow and it's all a dream? (i'm emailing the english dept. head now but feel like I'm not going to make any progress...)

Added bonus: my mom called me a quitter. I don't want to jeopardize my GPA, mess up my hard science classes for my English class, and go into a class with little respect for a prof. I don't mind when a prof kicks my butt cause they're tough & excellent, but over a vet professional school interview?

So, I've gone into panic mode about (dun dun dun) my English lit minor. I am looking for a class that isn't MWF (want to try and leave Friday open so I can travel to schools if need be) however, my Tufts interview is next Tuesday (I can't wait!😍) But, my lone English class to complete my minor has a teacher who is being incredibly difficult, saying "You missed my 1 class when you transferred in Monday, that counts as an absence (I was in another English class at the time & didn't want to just walk out cause it would've been uber rude), & you're missing Monday again. That's 2 absences. I allow 4. Good luck😛"

I understand a prof's position (they expect students to go to class), but vet school is kind of my future. I don't want to bash any liberal arts majors or their profs, but the class I switched from (writing intensive: don't need in order to graduate) only allowed 2 absences (excused or not) and she said my "vet interview" is counting as 1. I'm seriously annoyed.

The question: do I drop the class? (and give up my minor cause there are literally 0 classes that seem of interest that are not writing intensive/don't fit in my schedule) or pray that I wake up tomorrow and it's all a dream? I imagine that trying to interview while classes are in session would be hard....I just hate missing class because then I feel sooo behind.

Do you think you can make it through the semester without missing another two classes?

I'm in a quasi-similar boat with an english class. I'm trying to sign up late and find a professor who is willing to be understanding of the fact that I am missing an additional 2 classes for one interview, and could potentially end up missing another 1-2 for another interview right after (don't know yet).

I understand that it's problematic for the professor, and that certain things need to be done in class... but it's not like you can help it. You're not skipping, and you don't really have any choice in the matter. They give you an interview when they give you an interview.
